Compromised on a technical level, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is not as polished of a port as it deserved to be (and probably could have been if the publisher was not so adamant about shipping the game in time for the Vita's launch). Some solace is taken in the fact that, at the very least, we finally have a workable version of a 3D Ninja Gaiden game running in the palm of our hands, but it still leaves you feeling let down by the whole sloppy affair.

Fun and a solid challenge, but lacking in some respects, showing its age, sometimes unfair and with pointless Vita-specific controls. [Issue#217, p.81]

For the skim readers out there; there are two ninja launch titles for Vita. This one cuts the other one a new butt crack. [April 2012, p80]

I don't know if it's a port issue, but the controls are awful, to the point that I'm starting to think my Vita's buttons are faulty because it's driven me to despair at times... Add to that the terrible loading screens and the frame rate drops, and you've got it all.

I’m surprised the ratings are so low for this game, the gameplay is legendary, it has a phenomenal flow that is difficult but fair. Other than the camera, I would give the gameplay a 10/10 in terms of combat. Now there is a lot wrong with the game, which brings the score down significantly. The navigation mechanics are horrible, which is likely why the future entries had the sense that the path mechanic added. The camera during combat is horrific, some of the boss sequences are a chore since you have to memorize their patterns, something it doesn’t train you for. The storyline is not bad, the character designs are very imaginative and have charm. I will give this game a 9 simply because of the fact that they don’t make games like this anymore and it's extremely difficult to find a combat system like this that is both challenging and rewarding.

I played the PC version of Sigma. I guess it was alright for the time, but the character designs are incredibly generic and the story is pretty meh. Still, it's a lot of fun.I struggled with the difficulty, but that's because I'm terrible at it.

A great game which we have seen several times before, but is still a great action game, as fun as the first game. If you already had the game in another platform you won't find anything really new or different here, but if not this is a very recommended acquisition.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is the portable version of the HD remake of the upgraded port of an old 2004 game. It sounds crazy, isn't it? After so many years Ninja Gaiden is still great, anyway. If you've never played the previous versions, you should buy this one with no regrets.

It's great. It's the best game I've ever seen. The picture is exquisite, the movement is smooth, and the design is exquisite.

Yes, it´s the fourth iteration already of Ninja Gaiden and yes, it´s still a near perfect game that look and controls great in this Vita version. The novelties like the Hero mode add nothing to the winning formula, but it´s still a fantastic Beat'em up.

Say what you will about the camera or the silly story, but the combat in Sigma Plus is unmatched. There's a fantastic action game under all of the name changes and feature additions that have been tacked on over the years. Aside from the non-optional rear-tap Ninpo addition, the new Vita features aren't even worth messing with.

When you get down to it, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is the same game that was released a few years back, and if you need that on the go, this is the best way to fill the need. Or, if you need something pretty that can beat you up (like a hot MMA fighter), this will do the trick.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is what happens when a classic is ported too often.

You've probably played this game before. If you haven't, you probably don't want to, and this isn't the best version to start on. It doesn't add enough for old fans or do enough to reel in new players.

a highly underrated game, suitable for hardcore action gamers. How ps vita many games have this degree of responsiveness, and AI. The learning curve is gradual then steep then the mastery becomes enjoyable. Graphics are smooth and fast and the sword slashing becomes a course of mini beatemups. levels are well designed and the userr can explore and interact well. For me it beats all the swathe of repetitive and commercial childish cartoon like games for handhelds. This game is one of the few games that can appeal to adults. If you have played this on the xbox, i can understand how this vita game adds little. But if you haven't played a ninja gaiden title, you will find this hard to put down.

I've played through two versions of this on the xbox and its follow up on the 360. This version has some issues that were not in the original. It pauses to load in the middle of fights which did not happen before and should not happen now, fighting the enemies is hard enough... fighting the loading as well is a real **** This also causes enemies to re-spawn as soon as they are defeated in areas where their spawn point is close to a loading point... The new touch additions are a pain in the ass rather than an enhancement, its easy to touch the screen by accident as the left thumb-stick is too close to it resulting in a first person view when you least want it. The right thumb-stick also hinders the buttons above it so I never used the guillotine throw during this play-through. They may have removed a save point prior to the fight with Alma in the cathedral, I could be wrong but I don't remember such an awful trek back to this difficult fight when I lost in the older versions? There are now more life bar boosts than the game will allow the use of which is poor... The final chapter has always been frustrating but I thought when you got out of the volcano in the original that, should you lose the final fight, it would restart you at the fight rather than at the bottom of the bloody volcano, again I might be wrong. Either way you would not play through this chapter if it were near the start, you would turn the game off and trade it in for as little as a £1. To top this off once completed it just throws you back to the title screen after the credits have rolled with no final save, so you can't go through it again with all your gear etc... WHY!!! A very bad port **** game, a bit of modern TLC could have made a big difference... instead the conversion team who got hold of this have taken a butchers cleaver to it and hacked it up. Probably the same guys who made Ninja Gaiden 3!

I was getting pretty sick playing this, like literally physically. The graphics are so old and with the limited small fps and the motion blur on top I was getting pretty motion sick and eye draining playing this that I had to stop playing after 7 minutes... Gameplay wise, well, the game is pretty old so the mechanics are pretty out of date and simplistic now. I don't think its worth playing at all in 2025
