Ninja Gaiden II is easily one of the best action games on Xbox 360.
So those of us who aren't down with the difficulty level are going to want to play a game that utilizes the Xbox 360's potential with a balanced difficulty level that compliments the solid gameplay - and thereby restore self esteem - leaving Itagaki's insatiable bloodlust to the hardcore crowd that loves it so.
This is action gaming at its very best.

Frankly the greatest action game ever made. Even to this day, in 2025, the 360 version is still the definitive version. Sigma nerfed the blood and added weird boss fights. Black made the game more souls like, with less enemies and more spongey healthbars, which completely takes away from the feeling of this game. I can't even play Souls games because this game spoiled me so badly. It is a absolute shame Xbox turned their back on one of the greatest Game Director's of all time, Itagaki-sama. So should you play it? The real question is, have you really ever truly played an action game until you've played Ninja Gaiden 2?

“Ninja Gaiden II” is pure action. Packed with lightning-quick, tough bloody combat, it's the Xbox 360's equivalent to "Devil May Cry" and "God of War". While the game is good, it's not great like the 2004 original. This sequel lacks the adventure elements of its predecessor. It also has a lot more problems. For example, the camera always seems to be one step behind the fast action. As a result, you'll often get some bad views. On top of that, you're often bombarded with attacks that you can't see coming. Also, there is no lock-on setting which would be a great help. Still, NG II is a must-play for fans of hardcore challenges. I would rate it with an 8.2 out out 10.

NG2 is the perfect fighting-action game, it is the ultimate gaming challenge for 2008, and it's one of the best looking 'gore games' ever created. If you want to know why Master Ninja level NG players give no respect to anyone who hasn't achieved this level of action-gaming perfection, you must become one yourself.

It's Ninja Gaiden II, literally in every sense of the word. It doesn't break any real new ground, but on the other hand, does it really need to?

Ninja Gaiden II is a fascinating and hugely replayable game that shows Team Ninja has a gift beyond the vast majority of developers in that genre. [Aug 2008, p.92]

Fans of high-speed action titles can't go wrong; in fact, they'd be foolish to look anywhere else for anything better this generation. It's just disappointing that Ninja Gaiden II -- which is said to be the last in the series -- isn't quite the flawless masterpiece I’d hoped for

Should you buy Ninja Gaiden II? If you loved the first one, yes…but make sure you do so for the right reasons, namely the weapons and new additions to the system.

Ultimately, the gameplay is a vast improvement over its predecessor, but the game is in most other respects dwarfed by more recent innovations in the genre.

This game is easier than the first but is still just as fun. Some dislike the more linear style but I appreciate how it focuses more on the action. Regardless, both games are legendary and there are no other games like them.

Very nice graphics and a near-flawless combat system make this one of the best fighting games for the 360. Unfortunately, there is a lot of repetition and a stubborn camera. Also, the game is not for casual players. You have to be a devoted and competitive player to get the best experience out of NG2... And don't you dare play on the easy difficulty.

Even as a casual fan of the first game, this one is a huge disappointment. While the game may start out well with it's smooth combat system and flashy gore, it doesn't take long before devolving into a boring mess that's empty of substance. You'll realize how exploration and puzzle solving are both gutted so the entire game can consist of walking through hallway after hallway hacking away at dozens of the same enemies over and over again. The only times at which this is significantly shaken up is during boss fights, which are equally monotonous and frustrating in their design. While there are glimpses of joy with it's great combat system, the game as a whole is simply not good enough after the first few levels to let it be any fun.

I found the game okay, apart from the fact that Team Ninja had the stupid urge to make it even on the Easy difficulty insanely difficult, the bosses, the characters were really grotesque and well designed, adding to the game's realism. But the main part was that despite the game's consistent choice of combos is what made me give an average overall review for this game. And because of the insane difficulty on all difficulties and cheap death frequency, this resulted in me raging for hours and days to finish this game, and the first time I've struggled so much in a game. Frame and the game camera were VERY problematic!
