Terrifically fast, well-balanced street racing that really makes the most of PS5. Not quite as cool as the new art stylings would suggest, but still a fine game. [Issue#23, p.68]
Need for Speed was seriously starting to look dead and buried – and here comes the rescue party! The combination of beautiful, realistic-looking graphics and effects borrowed straight from an anime works surprisingly well, the story doesn’t get in your way and the driving model hits exactly the right spot. Even the open world is fun! This is how you make an arcade racing game.
Need for Speed Unbound is the best modern NFS to date. It is still riddled with issues like rubberbanding and weird drifting physics, but it still provides its players with the best handling system in years, with grip racing finally back. With the best visual design NFS has ever had and some interesting campaign decisions, it gives hope that the series is back on track to becoming something great.

I like the way cars drive each car feels different and based on real cars, it's better than gran turismo, with cooler customization with stickers and multiple sticker layers very cool, the games Ui is good too, no nasty micro transactions, good music too, plus you would think open world nfs game that's dope, but this game isn't above mid, here's why, first off the game doesn't know the difference between men and women, the woman voice actor for the main character sounds like a dude the whole game, way to represent woman by acting like they don't exist, woman clothes are just like the dudes clothes too, so no one is hot. NEXT, I CAN'T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW ANNOYING THIS GAME PLAYS LIKE. Ground hogs day was a movie about bill Murray reliving one day, over and over again for what seems like years to him, one day which was the holiday; ground hogs day, what does this have to do with NFS, they decided to make that a mechanic in this game, each day you need to win races to win money to make your car better, buy new cars, and progress through the game. Each week your goal is to get enough money and your car to the appropriate class in order to take on a big race for a car and to further the story line along. I know what you may ask, what if you don't have enough money or whatever, no problem just go back one day keeping everything you have and just win more money to advance, well you can do it indefinitely so get used to hearing the same dialogue because the npcs tell you the same thing each day without being able to skip, yippee, but wait we haven't driven this mechanic far enough into your skull, we have to add a wanted level too because it's an open world racing game so we must compete with GTA online. Any way to make money in this game comes with some 'heat'. Fair enough but you cannot go home or enter a race while being pursued by cops, fair enough, what happens when you get six heat levels? Well every five seconds you'll run into a cop fair enough, where this unravels becomes clear, if you want to make money and progress you'll have to increase your heat level, and when you have enough money for that shiny car upgrade, you'll have to bring it home with you but uh oh you got six heat, you can try to save and quit out of a cop chase to cheese the game but when you come back to the game, what's this you spawn at a gas station with the same heat level, that's not near any race or your home garage, so you'll try to drive stealthy to a garage only for a cop to spawn on top of you, I literally spent like a hour and a half trying to get my money home, it's annoying and furthers the monotony presented here, get rid of this system and you have the best racing game of all time

Could’ve been a great game but cop chases ruin it. Spend more time having to run from them than actually playing the game. It’s actually ridiculous. If you’re in a car below S tier, then you have zero chance of outrunning them. Have to hope that they get totaled and even then, a helicopter will stay on you the entire time. Can’t hide in a tunnel either because the game will just spawn a cop moving right towards you. Unrelated but when I post this it says I gave it 5 stars, but I put down 1. It might be an 8 or 9 without cops, but with how big of a role they play in the game you just can’t look past it. ONE STAR

Unbound is everything a fan of the franchise could want and an example of how to revamp a series without losing any of the essence of what a good Need for Speed is. More than just an excellent arcade racing game, Criterion leaves players with shining eyes as they imagine how much better this could be in the future.

The story paints something that feels all too real-world with things like police corruption and right-wing smoke screening. Combined with real-world visuals of the city mixed with gorgeous graffiti-like special effects, it all mixes into a fantastic racing experience that is hard to quit. The only gripe is an incredibly slow progression system.

Need for Speed Unbound is one of the best entries in the series since the golden days of Underground and Most Wanted. There are tons of new changes that give the game a unique spirit and the main focus on street racing combined with a generous vehicle list make this a solid arcade racing.

Need for Speed Unbound does not reinvent the wheel, but it does tune it. Criterion Games wanted to stand out with its new artistic style and has succeeded. We are not facing the best driving game of the year, but we do see an NFS that wants the saga to return to the highest categories. Fun, fast and furious.

Need for Speed Unbound is a fun racer with some new event types and an unusual yet undeniably attractive visual style. However, it doesn't do a ton to set itself apart from other racers that are currently out there and its story mode can be quite limiting.

Put that unfairness together with the annoying tendencies of the cops in Need for Speed Unbound, and the entire experience is full of peaks and valleys that curtail the progress that this game is supposed to be making. Beyond its art style that stands tall on its own, Need for Speed Unbound feels less like an innovation and more like a new body kit installed on an old engine. When the competition is already miles ahead, what this series needed was a nitrous boost of epic proportions, but sadly, it doesn’t seem like it will ever catch up.

The best Need For Speed in a decade – but that says far more about the moribund state of the franchise than it does this workmanlike new entry.

What defines this game is disconnection. It is disconnected from the entire franchise in body and soul. The style of the characters is disconnected from the animation style of the cars, which is disconnected from the map.Personally, I didn't like the gameplay.

I can't even explain why cars are that expensive. As an example Porsche Carreira Gts, that costs 140k+ you need to play at least 20 Hours and go throught 75%of game to by such basic car. Also Engines, they are literally more expensive than cars. 240k for stock engine for same Porsche Carreira. Also whey you upgrate your car, you still lose some games, Nps are just Faster than you, i cant also explain why. For me this is the worst Nfs i ever had.
