As a single player game it can become pretty infuriating having to put up with the computer AI.

A fun game, but is it the best 3D update to the classic NBA Jam? No -- and it's not as good as many of the 2D incarnations either.

The game's greatest shortcoming, however, is that this style of over-the-top gameplay hasn't evolved much from Midway's own "NBA Jam" or "NBA Showtime" titles.

Having fun is great, but the rest of the package isn't as alluring as a sparkling new PS2 title should be.

It had a proven track record of great arcade basketball gaming behind it, and although it is entertaining, this year’s offering fails to live up to that legacy.

Only if you're desperate, really, really desperate. But if you were looking forward to a new kind of game, a fun, arcade-style hoops game that will really open your eyes, wait for "NBA Street."
