Forget this Killing Tide (you can, in fact, die by boredom) and look for a more exciting war sim (Battlestation should do the trick).

Naval Assault – The killing tide should have been an arcade game. It would have been a good advice to 505 Games to do so. But they decided to release it as a full-price game. But for this, it is too simple and its gameplay is too stupid.

If Naval Assault had been a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade title, it would have been easy to forgive a lot of its shortcomings. Unfortunately, it's not; it looks like a last-gen game, with some of the worst sound design and music I've seen in a retail release, no mid-mission checkpoints, and most importantly, not much to hold one's interest for more than a few fleeting moments.

A disappointment all around. Fans of the genre will scoff at the visuals and simplicity, while more casual players will grow bored of its tedious missions and slow-paced gameplay.

Truly "sub"-standard. [Aug 2010, p.105]

Naval Assault: The Killing Tide could have been good. The idea of submarine warfare is still exciting, and the Battlestations series has shown that submarines are still very powerful vehicles of war. Unfortunately, the pacing of the title as well as the indecision between a simulation and arcade style hurts the game significantly.

The idea of publishing a submarine game for a console was as attractive as dangerous. Sadly, Naval Assault is disappointing, failing in almost everything it tries to accomplish.

A budget effort which has been created with little effort to please military buffs or gamers. [Oct 2010, p.97]
