Frankly, Max Payne 2 makes me confident that the best is yet to come for gaming, that the awesome narrative and creative capability of this medium has yet to be explored to its fullest extent.
The visuals are excellent, the voice work is superior to what we usually get dealt in the action genre, and I only wish the game was a bit longer. A lot longer actually, but it's more because this kind of game is such a rare find than because that find is relatively meager.

A brand new story that will keep you totally engrossed. Updated graphics and the same great gameplay with brand new Bullet Time effects.
It's likely to be deemed too similar to the original to attract too many converts, but it's short, it's sweet, and it's been put together with so much style it frankly embarrasses the ham-fisted efforts of most other developers.
Produces a great, no, an outstanding single player experience, but I have trouble recommending a game with so little game for like $40.
It’s a game that fatigues quickly. There’s nothing wrong with the gameplay, per se; it just feels a little bit empty. Try playing through the game without using the bullet time feature, and you’ll see how bland it really is.
Is this the most violent game of all time? Maybe. Its ragdoll physics may not match the flying limbs and broken faces of Soldier of Fortune, but its throwaway approach to life and death is genuinely shocking, leaving a bitter, metallic aftertaste. This is neither a fall nor an ascension. This is an update. [Jan 2004, p.105]

"Max Payne 2: Max's Fall" is a masterpiece that impresses not only with its gripping plot, but also with its tragic romantic storyline. The relationship between Max and Mona is deeply touching, adding emotional richness to the game. The graphics are top notch for their time, creating an atmosphere of gloomy neon and rainy streets. The developers from Remedy are truly awesome - they masterfully combined the noir style with dynamic gameplay and deep characters. This game remains in your memory thanks to its unique style and strong emotions.

NO HOPE, NO HARM. VOLUME 2. At first I was pleasantly surprised that the game is from 2003 and looks quite nice and quite detailed, unlike the games of that time that were released at the same time (GTA VC, Mafia 1). The faces of the main characters and even the secondary ones look really well-developed and do not resemble something very low-poly without any facial animations. I was glad that this part already has a full-fledged ragdoll; for 03, I think it was very impressive. The plot here is more mundane, as for me, it is shorter than in the 1st part, more restrained and there is no contrast between the events. In terms of gameplay, this is essentially the 1st part, but more polished and refined (probably the headshot system and not such stone bots as they were in the 1st part). The only thing I didn’t like was how bullet time was implemented, for me it’s too fast and there’s no feeling that everything around is really freezing, as for me it cuts down on the very cinematic quality that was shown in MP1. Well, of course, in the end I’ll say that it didn’t quite go over that the appearance of all the characters is radically different from the previous part, sometimes it feels like something is wrong. Otherwise, this is a good, consistent and worthy sequel in which there is nothing superfluous and in fact it does not stand out from the general atmosphere that the developers set in MP1.

Если бы не товарищ, который подстёгивал проходить дальше, игра была бы дропнута на первом часу. Резкая смена тона, существование Пэйна не в вакууме и его взаимодействия не только через ствол забрало у меня ощущение, которое давала первая часть. Не оценил ни обновленного героя, ни его одержимость мадамой, ни уровни. Геймплей вроде остался тот же, но без остальных составляющих для меня не работает. P.S. Друг после того, как увидел ещё раз игру и как я ее прошел, поменял мнение и не понял чем она ему так понравилось.
