Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix will probably not convince non-fans of the series. It’s the same type of cozy Disney/Square-Enix mix as always but also with the same type of bad controls and unbalanced difficulty level as the original.
The Kingdom Hearts series has aged and this just doesn't feel as much fun as it used to do. But if you're a fan, this is still worth checking out.

Horrible mechanics. Camerawork is dead the entire time especially during boss fight. Camera never shows boss on screen, you’ll always have to fight against boss while facing the wall. All you can do is to keep jumping and pray not to get hit. This game suppose to be real time battle but it’s actually not due to delay on every single input. If you try to role to avoid enemy attacks, the system responds in 2 seconds later so you can never dodge or avoid attacks perfectly, unless you have ability to see future movement of enemies.Even if you want to explore the maps, there are infinite groups of enemies keep respawning preventing you from interacting from anything. You can’t even open the chests if there are enemies around but they’ll just keep respawning. Never tells you what exactly you have to do or where to go, so you’ll always have to watch guide videos on yt while playing otherwise you’ll end up wasting extra 5 hours on each world. When you are moving to a different world, you are always forced to do a weird shooting stuff that you have to avoid obstacles but the graphics and mechanics are horrible on this part as well that even when it looks you are flying on the safe height or angles you’ll still crash into rocks or something else and you’ll just die and you’ll have to do everything over again and sometimes you can’t even move on to a different world because of this stupid system they put. Nothing is fun all you get is stress.

Kingdom Hearts is, above all, a special game. Not perfect, nor does it pretend to be, but it has a charm that few titles have managed to replicate. However, it's worth being clear: if your thing is overly deep RPGs, ultra-technical systems, or you are looking for combat as precise as a Devil May Cry, you won't find that here. The camera has aged poorly, the AI has its bad days, and the structure is simpler than it seems at first glance. And if you are one of those who can't tolerate even a hint of "childish" aesthetics, you'll probably flee before Sora even says his first "let's go get 'em."However, if you grew up with Disney but discovered your RPG side with Final Fantasy... this game tugs at heartstrings you didn't even know you had. Kingdom Hearts works precisely because it doesn't try to hide its strange mix: it embraces it sincerely. And that's where its magic lies. It doesn't matter that the polygons are noticeable or that Nomura decided to overcomplicate everything: the adventure, the emotion, and Shimomura's music take you by the hand, and before you know it, you're already deep into the **** you are looking for an accessible but soulful RPG, if you are drawn to the idea of reliving Disney worlds with a darker twist, or if you simply want a game that dares to be different without fear of ridicule, Kingdom Hearts deserves your time. It doesn't emerge unscathed from its flaws, but it compensates with an identity so strong that it's impossible not to remember it. Getting in costs whatever it costs... but leaving indifferent is practically impossible.

Some aspects of Kingdom Hearts have aged well, including visually, the humour, story telling, and music. Some aspects haven't aged well, including some voice acting performances, and the precise platforming. It does run very well, with minimal performance issues, and does appeal to a lot of nostalgia with levels based on classic Disney films. But the game does suffer with a few issues, including a wonky camera, and a very unbalanced endgame with a crazy annoying end boss gauntlet. I'm sure if I played Kingdom Hearts when it was just starting off as a franchise, I'd probably wax more poetically about how much **** it is. The game was a solid 7 out of 10 until that point, but that infuriating end gauntlet made it impossible to progress further, and it killed my interest in the franchise going forward.

There is a certain magic present here that a decade has only made stronger. Newcomers and fans alike will find enjoyment in this collection and you won’t able to help smiling at plenty of moments, even if you’ve seen them play out before.

Fortunately, Square Enix hasn't merely cashed in on the nostalgia, and has fired on all cylinders to provide these games with a loving upgrade at a outstanding price point.

*only talking about KH1* The game that got me into video games, a game with so much nostalgia that I actually cry when playing it or just hearing the music. I can't stress how good this game is or how amazing its sequel is.

A fantastic collection of three of the earliest Kingdom Hearts games and stories. There isn’t a mountain of must-play new material here, but the updated visuals, bonus content, adjustable difficulty, and trophy support for all three games should make a repeat playthrough of the games as satisfying as the first.

This HD remake offers a lot of bang for your buck with hours upon hours of gameplay. Although it's just the main game that truly delivers a good combination of story, fan service and combat. The other two titles doesn't even come close to the level of the original, which is a shame.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix is full of beautifully animated worlds and nostalgic throwbacks to classic Disney movies. Unfortunately, it brings virtually nothing new or fresh to this aging series.

One of the most beautiful games in terms of the story and the way to play and even drawings to Jaya Disney, but I congratulate Square and Disney on this project

Just as a preface, I played the version on the 1.5 + 2.5 PS4 version, so keep that in mind I suppose. I played Kingdom Hearts to its completion, and I have to say that I was stunned. Hearing about how busted and insane these games were, I was pleasantly surprised by a touching, yet slightly dumb and confusing at times, story, and combat that, while being slightly button-mashy and esoteric at times, was overall very enjoyable. So why is this a 7? Chain of Memories. I couldn't get through a whole hour of it before I had to turn it off. Boring and stale in every sense of the word with stale charm reused from the first game, not to mention a jarring voice actor change for Sora (it being the VA from 2 and beyond). The story is useless and it is a better experience just to watch all the cutscenes online. Plus I've heard that it's better in its original form on the GBA, which is saying something. As for 358/2 Days, it's a shame this wasn't remade as well, after playing through most of it on its original hardware, as it had a lot of potential, I think. That being said, knowing at least what the gameplay was like before watching, for what it is, the "version" presented is very nice to look at visually, and can be fine if you already have an idea of what's going on (as opposed to screens of text just telling you what you WOULD HAVE done, had you played the game). Chain of Memories drags the package down, but the greatness of the Original is enough to keep it above average. Worth it, especially if it's on sale.

Coming into this series as a new player. I was rather disappointed. While the game's use of Disney characters and themes is charming, everything else feels really dated and obsolete. Gameplay wise you have a bad camera, awkward movement, terrible platforming sections, a completely boring travel mini-game and uninspired combat. Equipping basic items is a chore, there is no way to compare weapons when you purchase them and many in game decisions are made without any context. I find myself running away from the awful combat a lot because of all the back and forth between level sections caused by the game's inherent lack of direction or guidance. The levels themselves are very small and feel cramped; especially when you're constantly being jumped by a ton of small enemies. Story wise, I'm sad to say that the Disney characters completely outshine the Square Enix characters. The protagonist is boring, there are plenty of plotholes, and the game's pacing seems really off. The voice acting is superb for the Disney characters but again, terrible for the Square Enix ones. The music is really jarring and repetitive, which is a shame when you consider that Disney has this huge library of musical scores from all these different franchises to fall back on. Graphically, the game is a mix of good and bad. Most character models look really nicely done, but when the camera zooms in on faces and the blur comes into play you can really tell it's an old game. While the enemy models look really polished,a lot of the backgrounds and items in the background seem to have low resolution textures. All in all, I think this game relies way too much on nostalgia, as is evident by the majority of reviews on metacritic. This is a mediocre game at best, and the fact that Square Enix wants $40 for what seems like a rather minor graphical update makes me feel a little bit sad.
