Well-designed role-playing game with strategy elements in an exciting dark fantasy setting.

King Arthur: Legion IX uses a strong foundation of engaging turn-based combat and a fantastic Rome-inspired setting to craft a compelling journey. Crashes and rough edges mean this is a war-weary Centurion, but it comes through with the hearts of many a lion, likely the ones felled in glorious gladiatorial combat.

Great tactical turn-based game that stands out with its aesthetics, setting and stylization. Who wouldn't want to play as zombie Romans in the conquest of mythical Avalon? King Arthur demonstrates that when you have good and enjoyable combat, you don't really need much else and don't have to artificially extend the gameplay to higher tens of hours.

The foundations have all been laid, the walls erected, now Legion IX just needs a roof and a coat of paint. Despite this, I would recommend this title to anyone unfamiliar with the Tactical RPG scene. It’s simple to learn and rewarding to master, with various difficulties that cater to every audience possible. If anything, I recommend switching the starting difficulty to hard, rather than normal, as this mode won’t challenge you (apart from some weird difficulty spikes near the end). So if you’re interested in history and fantasy, or even just want something that’ll make you think, King Arthur Legion IX is a great place to start.

The undead Roman legion in Avalon knows how to fight well. Although there are not many heroes and the management between missions is more modest, the legionnaires will prove themselves in a several-hours long campaign.

Like its predecessor, King Arthur: Legion IX excels at turn-based combat. You’re routinely outnumbered, requiring you to harness the potent skills of each party member, which is a lot of fun. But off the frontline, things aren’t quite smooth. From sporadic crashes, vexing difficulty spikes, a rushed ending, to uneven voicework, it seems Legion IX isn’t quite battle-ready.

King Arthur: Legion IX is a solid RPG with crunchy and satisfying turn-based combat that takes place in a setting you won’t soon forget – a bit janky and rough around the edges, but good fun.

Fun tactical role-playing expansion with challenging battles, hardened heroes and an extensive upgrade system. Points are deducted for the moderate variety of opponents, weaknesses in the voice output and the rather manageable gameplay innovations.

King Arthur: Legion IX tries to implement Knight’s Tale’s successful formula in a more compact format, resulting in a hit and miss Tactical RPG experience that shines in areas such as turn-based combat and art design but comes up short in story, sound design, and voice acting.

Overall, fans of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale will enjoy this DLC expansion. Newcomers starting with Legion IX will need some onboarding. The game’s core combat remains challenging, interesting, and fun, even if the narrative and writing are disappointing. As a fan of Arthurian legends and history — and more importantly, tactical turn-based RPGs — I had a good time on the battlefields of Avalon.
