Although you guide your loved one through most of this experience, How to Say Goodbye is not really about them. It’s about you, in a way that almost never mentions you at all. Death separates us physically, but perhaps not spiritually, or forever.

How to Say Goodbye explores the afterlife from a more personal point of view, with a focus on healing at your own pace. If you can ignore the sometimes clunky puzzle solving, this is an easy day-length game to play when you want a lighter approach to death.

How to Say Goodbye is a videogame revolving around death and acceptance and deals with these themes with great care, but fails in making the story feel urgent and offers a disappointing ending. However, we can say that what matters the most is the journey in a world made by flawless and engrossing puzzles, with mechanics that are simple to learn, but prove stimulant for kids and adults alike.

How To Say Goodbye doesn’t try to make grand statements about life and death. You get out of it what you like. It’s a short, cozy adventure about how death sucks, and how losing people sucks, and how grief sucks. And I appreciate that simple sentiment.
