It's a true 2000s gaming experience, comparable to similar titles like Tom Clancy's. It felt fresh for its time and was an immense experience in terms of mechanics and gameplay, maximizing stealth to its fullest potential.

For the first game in the Hitman series, Codename 47 isn’t bad by any means. Sure, it’s a bit glitchy, and the strict-keyboard/mouse usage can take a bit for console players like me to learn (I tried using controller and mapping it to a keyboard, but it really isn’t recommended). But the plot is fairly decent, as it explains why 47 is doing what he’s doing and who he is. The assassinations ate a bit linear, but the way they progress the story is simple enough. This game wasn’t necessarily created for people to explore assassinations like you would today, with the new versions allowing players to display their “creativity”. However, for its time, Codename 47 is an OK game, but it can definitely be skipped. Seriously? If you fail the mission or die, you need to start from the beginning? Major flaw.

Hitman Codename 47 is my favorite game of my childhood and when I look back, I want to play this masterpiece again, of course, it is a cruelty to play the 2000 game after years, anyway, if we come to the actual game, it is the starting point of a magnificent series. If we get into the general story of the game, I can't tell much without giving a spoiler, but it tells the story between 47 and the person who produced it, of course, the cinematics are less cinematic so it is quite difficult to understand the story. what makes this game good is definitely the locations, the countries he chose for assassination and the ambiance of the places, of course, plus the fact that the game brought such a concept in 2000 with a character as close to blood as 47. It consists of a total of 13 episodes, short and long depending on the episode, but I must say that for its time this game is a masterpiece. Actually, I was going to give it 9 points, but the technical problems of the game in this period infuriate people, it is very difficult to finish the game, you can't even finish it yourself! You have to watch a full solution, even if you watch it, it is still difficult! I don't know if it is the new systems, but the realization in the game is sudden and absurd and spoils the pleasure and course of the game.

Hitman: Codename 47, released in the year 2000, is the inception and very first game in the renowned Hitman series. As someone who has played the later entries in the series, i can clearly see that this is where it all began. The core gameplay and its mechanics were created in this title. Throughout different levels and locations, you are tasked with eliminating targets, or completing different objectives, like securing documents or items. This game is branded as a game that lets you find your own way. This may be true for the later titles but for Codename 47, there really is mostly only one correct way to finish the mission. The game features big open maps, which are pretty detailed for the time, which can be a good thing, however most of the time you are just left aimlessly wandering around it trying to figure out where to go. In this game, you have no clue what actions you can and can't perform without the guards getting angry at you. If they do, they'll shoot and kill you. Which wouldn't be a problem if you could simply save at any given time. But that's not the case. If you die, you have to restart. You can choose to respawn, but since all guards will remain hostile this is not really an option. That being said, in some missions there are clues left at manageable spots for you to find. However this is sadly only possible in a handful of levels. The levels themselves are mostly expansive and all have their own features. In this game, the levels are cohesive and based off of each other. There are multiple missions in one location, like for example the very first one in China. You are tasked with taking out a big bad criminal, but to get there you first have to do a few other missions with minor goals. The game also features a pretty cool soundtrack, which i find is often overlooked. Along with the feel of these old maps they might even create a slight feel of kenopsia, at least for me, which i like. Before actually starting a mission you can choose to buy gear for you to bring along from the money you have earned on previous missions. This is an incentive for the player to do missions silently as casualties deduct from the money you earn. However i have found that in some levels, like the famous "Traditions of the Trade", it's pretty useless since you can't bring any guns through the metal detectors. And by the last mission, i had amassed so much money that i couldn't even spend it. I'm certain it wouldn't have been a big issue either if i were to spend a little more on previous missions, basically rendering this feature a little pointless. Speaking of the last mission, it's not exactly great either. Hitman games have always wanted the player to only take out their targets without causing any casualties. It was never supposed to be a shooter, yet the last mission is. You have to painfully fight against 10 NPC's that can instantly kill you, whilst you are stuck having to deal with the clunky old controls. This finale is not exciting. It's painful and **** of this however, is pretty manageble. Codename 47 is an old game after all, and such issues are to be expected when playing and looking at it from a modern standpoint. There is still one, big issue however and again it has to deal with the modern IOI. This game is an awful pain in the back to get to run on a modern system. I had to spend about an hour figuring out how to even start it without crashing, getting it to run in a fullscreen window, and setting the resolution to 1920x1080. That's because there was no real effort put in into making this game accesible. It was a simple re-release without putting much thought into it. I know it was never supposed to be a remake. But that was never the problem. They could've at least put some effort into making this game playable on a newer computer. There is a great guide by CyrusVonNox01 on the steam forum that helped me get it to work, i can only recommend it.Despite all this, if you are a dedicated fan of the Hitman series i think it is worth it to take a look at where it all started. And despite all the frustration i still had some fun with this game. I actually wouldn't recommend starting out with this game if you're looking to play through the Hitman series. You don't really get that true "Hitman feeling" until the later titles. This game is basically a proof of concept with a lot of errors, that had to be improved upon before they would later become the masterpieces these games are today. Final Score: 5/10

Codename 47 was a classic game and really good for 2000. The rag-doll physics seemed perfect with the blend of a classic storyline and good features, including moderate graphics and a vast choice of weapon

The first ever Hitman game I’ve played but that doesn’t make it an amazing game. The controls are messed the freak up, and the missions are way to hard to execute. I’m glad they have improved the controls and missions in the newer games.

With this game, I got acquainted with the stealth genre. And only then I realized how masterpiece Hitman was. The bald, stealthy assassin with a barcode on the back of his head has become one of my favorite characters in video games. Missions in different parts of the world, from Hong Kong to the jungle. Sophisticated methods of murder, as in the best Hollywood films about spies. It was amazing.

This is such an incredible game, and I hate that it was never ported to console. The gameplay is incredible, and it really represents the best of stealth, but also offers numerous ways of completing each level with a ton of inventive options such as disguises, weapons or environmental interactions. Codename 47 also has an incredible plot that completely blindsided me the first time I played the game. I wish Codename 47 was ported to console as every other hitman game is on console, but there's no way to play codename47. The closest option for the console is Hitman Contracts which has some of the levels in but many of them are changed and not the same, and the plot is missing which is a major part of the game.

A classic game. It had a lot of novelity at its time. Nice graphic, good AI. It is probably not as good as the other hitman games but it layed off the basis of the franchise. Some maps and the lack of saving is annoying, but i liked the game overall.

The game is very difficult and full of bugs. According to the release date, the bug is not a problem, but the fact that the game is so difficult is tiring. But it still makes you feel like an assassin.

Hitman Codename 47 - '' Are these the aliens creating this game ''. Game genre stealth and action game. Hitman Codename 47 first game series? Yes. So now let's start talking about the game> Game History: Really starts with the fun as you are alone in the wards and have an escape and a base. The game itself makes you pretty great and fun. Game level design> It was perfect and impressive goes like a line. As for the bugs in the game> The game really has quite a lot of bugs that interfere with playing the game perfectly because sometimes it sees you through a wall or shoots out of nothing and can really annoy you. Difficulty of the game> In my opinion, it's really that difficult and challenging, but the game is made even more difficult by bugs and mechanics. Game Mechanics> Awkward and difficult quite because it is sometimes annoying. The sound of the game's characters> It's pretty cheap and funny at other moments too. The sound system of the game> Not bad or very impressive is as simple as what you wanted for games created for such years. In my opinion, the game is difficult just because of the bad mechanics and quite a few bugs that annoy you a lot, but getting used to the game may leave you with a favorite game in the Hitman series, but not in years like before. For this game by yourself chapter 6/10.

I just finished this game for the first and this is the first hitman i played. Maybe that was a bad choice but ok. The game is overall good. I love it when you can choose how to deal with an assassination. The graphics were at the time of the release good, the sound and music is very good, the gameplay is ok, the lack of a quick save makes the missions very hard, there were bugs that made me replay entire missions so **** you are a hitman fan than try it out or otherwise dont

This game will be able to provide huge amount of different emotions. You will be highly motivated to finally finish mission as it`s a 5th, 10th,1 5th yours retry. You will be interested in exploration of the guard’s routes, the areas more appropriate for stealth. You will be frustrated of the huge enemy squad’s encounters. You will be carried away with puzzles (some of them take me a few hours to deal with them). However this game has a several disadvantages. The shoot mechanic isn`t adapted to a shooting with a huge amount of enemies, but at several missions there aren`t another way to pass through. It`s impossible to save a game during missions, but some of them can lasts for a few hours. In this game is rather hard to find the right way in a huge locations without map, you need to spend hours to find the best route to target.

Amazing game that allows you complete the mission in a myriad of different ways. It gives you a lot of choice. Choice is one of the things that makes a game fun. The plot if very ambiguous and mysterious which is interesting. It was one of my favorite games as a kid. The story is kind of lacking but it makes up for it with it's replay value.

Solid 10, absolutely no way around it. I played it in 2000 and i would be pleasantly surprised even if i played it now in 2020. Many modern games lack many of the features that game had in 2000.

this is a game that unfortunately has aged badly, not only in the graphics but this I know is a game of more than 20 years, but the playability is strange and the game does not help much in the replay factor. the soundtrack is really good, the hongkong music is relaxing and the music on the docks is scary, the game itself is good, but I recommend you play just for the story or if your pc is not very good, because you better get the blood money or the latest

One of my favourite games of all-time clynically under-rated. Superp level design and graphics for it's day, great fun, numerous ways to take out your target and the option to shot it out if all goes wrong lol. A true classic.

HITMAN CODENAME 47 is a good game but it tends to become very boring and repetitive. The controls are very clunky and you can't run the game at a decent resolution without it crashing. Its a good game overall but its held back by some big flaws.

This game is a great stealth game. The AI is smart enough for it to be believable enough to be similar an actual person in the real world. It rewards you with stealth, instead of running into a room of enemies, guns blazing. This is because you get weapons that are sufficient to kill a few people at best and with your relatively small amount of health compared to the super-soldier like pool of health other games have. Unfortunately, this game does suffer from some problems. There is a distinct lack of saving. If you mess up in the middle of a mission, you'll have to start over. Always being in third person. Not very many missions. But in a general view, it is a great game then and now still.

I was expecting to see this one through to the end, but it turned out to be worse than I have imagined. There are some good things about the game such as the badass character Codename 47 which planted the seeds for a strong game franchise. The level designs were good as far as I have played, although I have read that in later missions they get abysmal. What made me quit this game was the game mechanics. Ok, you play a silent assassin, so it just makes sense to be careful and try to beat episodes without calling any attention. But the original game unfortunately suffers from a horrible scripted game design. In order to beat a level first you need to do A and then B and then C... You cannot really use your own method to complete a mission. What makes this even worse is that there is no save function during the missions. So, you repeat every mission over and over until you find out what scripted A-B-C flow the game expects you to accomplish, then start over and do exactly the things that you are supposed to do. I am a rather patient person when it comes to finishing games but Hitman: Codename 47 does not really deserve such patience. Even if you are new into the series, just skip this one.

I thought Hitman: Codename 47 was a great entry point for the series defining what it is that Agent 47 does and how he came to be. Just like any game from 2000 there will be many flaws in A.I. and level designing. Most of the levels were small and only had one or two ways of completion but that is fine because with a saving system like this one it really would have been a nightmare to beat this game. If you are caught, killed and hit space to continue from a checkpoint the guards will still be on alert EVEN if you are loaded back in an area you are sure you were safe in; they WILL find you. That is one of my very few gripes with this game as it still delivers satisfying gameplay with a variety of fun hits. The story, in my opinion is the game's strength but it only picks up in the end quarter of the game and for me, it did not disappoint. Learning how 47 was created and by who was pretty awesome and I enjoyed watching it unfold. Most gamers overlook this rewarding game but I highly recommend they try it out if they are a big Hitman fan!

Definitely an original game that puts the player in the shoes of a hitman. At first the game has you killing Hong Kong Triad members and drug lords, but that all eventually leads to the awesome conclusion of your origin. Despite the lack of in game saves and A.I. problems, the atmosphere and tension in this game are second to none.

Very obscure game with fantastic atmosphere and great story! This game is quite amoral in a fun way! Playing a professional hitman is a thrill! Of course it's not supposed to be something just anyone could do, so expect to be in for a challenge. The game starts out with the best tutorial ever made. The reason is that it's not so much about the controls (like modern tutorials). here it teaches you how the game works, shows you tactics and introduces you to the different weapons you have at your disposal. Exploring these options is extremely fun! The game itself has smart levels that require thinking, planning ahead and split second decision making. It's notoriously hard and any mistake can be punished mercilessly ... or if you're lucky you might be able to get away with it ... this time. Depending on how cleanly you succeeded you get more money as a reward. With that money you can buy better weapons for your missions or pay to clean up if you left too many bodies behind. The graphics and sound were very stylish and realistic for that time. Also the weapons and in game items are very realistic. Art design was very consistent and nothing feels out of place.

Hitman: Codename 47 is the first title of the wonderful hitman series and when it was released 15 years ago it was also probably the first of its genre, since Thief, even if stealth too, almost lacked the FPS part. This first title of the hitman saga is the one that differentiate the most among them: it's fairly easy to camouflage and there's no breath simulation while aiming but also this is the one that gives you most freedom of choice. Almost every mission can be completed in 3~5 slightly different ways. Gameplay aside, the plot is extremely intriguing, graphics are amazing (for a year 2000 title) and music matches 100% the game, sadly voice acting (At least Italian one) is really bad. Mission settings are extremely detailed and pervasive and, most of all, you have time to carefully plan and carry out your assassinations. Ah, you can't save during missions, this is just awesome if you ask me. I'm a huge fan of games that force you to think carefully before doing things. There's a reason if this niche game ended up being one of the most successful videogame series of all time. You won't regret buying it, even after 15 years, worth every penny.

Fantastic stealth game for it's time. Full of innovative ideas and giving you the option to role play the Hitman perfectly, always having lots of ways how to achieve your objective, varied and exotic locations, different types of missions and especially really good stealth mechanics, disguises and 100% tension thanks to the design decision not to give you saving options. Well, after I finished the ame I found out that you supposedly are able to save once during each mission, ut I finished the entire game without a single save and that's what made it so captivating and memorable. The sense of achievement after the finished mission was huge, but so was the frustration when I had to repeat missions countless times, or when I died just before the end and had to go all over, but that's what made it great and that's why the first Hitman is by far the best in the series. All the ideas come from here and tension have never been so strong ever again. 9/10

If I had actually payed for this game instead of getting it in a bundle, I'd be insulted. Here's how the first and only 25 minutes of my experience with Hitman: Codename 47. Oh, hey, this game's by Eidos! I wonder if this will be as good as Deus Ex... Hmm, that's odd. The resolution is screwed up. The menu screen doesn't scale with the resolution. Oh well, it's not a problem. Let's get started! Oh, a tutorial in which a strange voice literally congratulates me for stepping my low-poly body through a low-poly door and managing to dress myself in some low-poly clothes while explaining that I'm the best of the best? This must be a world where everyone is literally ****, because I'm pretty sure walking and dressing oneself are wholly unimpressive qualities. Oh well, so the tutorial's a bit crappy. I'm sure it gets better... what the hell? What's wrong with this control scheme? Numpad to walk? X to step backwards? Who designed this? Whatever, that's annoying but I can change most of it. Now... Okay what? Why can't I press this button? I need to press this button to continue but I can't! Okay, after a minute of experiment with different angles of approach, I managed to press the down button on the elevator. Now I'm being congratualted for my ability to pick up a knife off the table, and... Okay. What the hell. I'm locked in a tiny room with a practice dummy while the tutorial helpfully informs me that I can continue on my way through the door that is TOTALLY NOT LOCKED. I can't.... *Tries to open the door for five minutes.* Well, I guess I'm restarting the tutorial. *Spends another five minutes trying to use the elevator again.* Okay, after twenty minutes of playing, I've finally managed to pick up a gun and successfully shoot it. Is it time to start now? **** Another elevator. I think I'm getting the hang of this; it's only taking thirty seconds of **** around o call the elevator. Hey look, a random dude. Should I talk to him? Wait, he just pulled out something that looks like a weapon. Crap, I should probably kill him. Annndd He just one-shot killed me. I guess that was supposed to happen, like maybe it's a cutscene? Wait, this room looks familiar. What? WHAT THE F***? Why did it just start the game all over? Are you serious?! It took me twenty minutes to get past your damn tutorial, and with no explanation, you just sent an enemy at me who can kill me in one shot and instantly send me back to the start of the game? Fine. Fine, I'll play through this. I'll get back to my area, and... ****. The elevator closed without me in it. It won't open back up. I'm locked out. **** this game.

One of the best hitman games ever! The storyline is just good and the graphics are bizzare plus the game play of this game is freakin awesome! This game is awesome!
