It’s been a long time since I played Chicken Wiggle, and perhaps I’ve become a more discerning gamer over the years. Because even though I was impressed by the amount of content available here and appreciate many of the new features, ultimately I gave the original game a more favorable score. This isn’t to say Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure isn’t worth your time. Overall, I feel it’s more challenging than Chicken Wiggle and the amount of content is bolstered by the Level Editor. If you’re looking for something cute and enjoyable, you can’t go wrong with this.

Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure had a rough road to release, and the final product reflects that in some respects with a few odd choices. Still, it’s a very good platformer, much more often than not, challenging and content-rich. Releasing late in the life of the Switch exposes it to some of the same risks the original game faced later in the life of 3DS. I hope Hatch Tales secures success and recommend it for a fun time.

Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure deserves its place in the pantheon of retro platformers on the Switch.

Hatch Tales, as late as it is in arriving, has ended up really surprising us. This is a delightful retro platformer, full of challenge and focus, that gives you a whole bunch of fun ways to play. Even with just the core campaign, with its smart level design and laser-like focus on doing what it's doing very well, we'd have been satisfied, but the addition of retro Chick Wiggle and Mutant Mudds modes, alongside the online creation offerings, make for a very tidy package indeed, thank you very much.

Hatch Tales: A Heroic Hookshot Adventure looks fine, sounds fine, and plays fine. The game is not remarkable, but definitely worth your buck in terms of content and challenges.
