On a very meaningful level, it gives complete newcomers access to the most exciting aspect of the game right out of the box. And should those players decide to sample everything that it has to offer, they will not be disappointed.
The follow-up to the innovative Guild Wars features a large new fantasy world to explore and enough competitive and cooperative role-playing action to easily keep you busy for weeks.
Guild Wars Factions not only gives longtime fans a taste of something new, but it allows newcomers to jump right in and start playing.

My least favorite GW expansion. Everything that was great about Prophecies is still here, but it just feels like more of the same. The faction war could have been great but just ended up not being interesting at all.

As good overall as Guild wars Prophecies. Better pvp then the first one. Nice maps of factions vs factions (borderlands). Fight against Shiro. Asiatic landscapes. New continent (Cantha) different from Tyria. New classes Game play : 7/10, graphics : 6,5/10, back ground 7/10, lifetime : 5/10, sound : 7/10, community : 6/10, world : 5/10

Very good campaign for a very good game, still just as fun and as addictive, especially with the new classes. An entire new area is opened up and ready for exploration, with the best part being it doesn't burn a hole in your wallet!

Overall, Factions is an excellent package. While players of Prophecies may look at it and see a $50 price tag and complain, the game is truly complete - it isn't just a straight up expansion pack.

The series could benefit from features such as other playable races or a crafting system, but you'll likely be so busy adventuring that you won't have much time for gathering herbs.

For veteran players, Factions offers little in terms of PvE but more than makes up for it in PvP, especially if you’re a member of an experienced guild.

You get plenty of bang for your buck and if you liked the original, you're bound to like Factions. The "sequel" or whatever you like to call it offers a lot of great stuff, albeit for the more hardcore GW fans.

Still, if you were intrigued at all by the PvP aspects of the original design but frustrated by the steep learning curve--or if you're just brand-new to the game--Factions is the best place to jump in and experience one of the deepest and most rewarding franchises in gaming. [Sept. 2006, p.79]

On the one hand I am greatly disappointed that Factions seems to just be ‘more of the same’ in a different setting with even less missions, yet on the other hand it has reignited my interest in the series and I am once again playing Guild Wars as often as I was once before.

The A.V. Club
The campaign feels rushed: you'll be halfway to your maximum level before the story proper even starts, and the plot, about a mysterious illness that plagues the land, is clichéd.
