Grim Trials is a competent roguelite that excels in build variety, a permanent progression system, dynamic combat, and an excellent soundtrack. The abundance of customization options adds depth to the experience and rewards players who enjoy experimenting with different strategies. On the other hand, the difficulty of the bosses makes progress slower and dependent on repeated farming sessions. While this is part of the genre's appeal, the pace can become tiring for some players. Still, its positive aspects outweigh the occasional frustrations, resulting in a solid experience for roguelite fans.

Ultimately, this title is a decent action roguelike that makes no secret of its inspirations; while it introduces its own ideas—such as a hexagonal map and a crafting system featuring a reforging minigame—it falls short of establishing an identity as robust as that of the games it emulates. Its brief runtime, animations that could use improvement, and a soundtrack that leans too heavily on its source material hold back the overall package; nevertheless, it remains an entertaining alternative for anyone seeking an experience similar to *Hades* without demanding the same level of polish.

Grim Trials is one of those games that manages to mix several familiar ideas and turn them into an experience that works really well. The action is fast, the battles keep you on your toes, and the roguelite system makes you want to try again after every defeat. And Avelin’s story helps a lot. You’re not simply fighting monsters for no reason. There’s a character with a story, a promise and a goal that makes you want to discover what happens next. I also liked the ability to combine weapons, equipment and Blessings to find different ways to play. Of course, there are still a few areas that could be better, especially when it comes to variety and repetition after many runs. But overall, Grim Trials delivers a fun experience for anyone who enjoys action, RPGs and roguelites. If you enjoy games where dying is part of the learning process, like experimenting with different builds and don’t mind replaying an adventure to become stronger each time, this is definitely a game worth keeping on your radar. And perhaps the best part is exactly that: You can lose a battle, go back to the beginning and think, “This time, it’ll be different.” And then everything starts again. Only this time, you’re a little more prepared.
