An incredible remake of a flawed game. Classes, skills, even maps are all remade and changed from the original release. Battles feel dramatic due to the mechanics of the game. Force Boost grants powerful unique buffs for each class, making each character feel like a superhero for three turns. Force Break is a one use per excursion super attack that allows you to inflict blows with extremely powerful effects. However, on the opposite end, enemies hit incredibly hard, requiring you to think of your party synergy to its fullest and pushing every mechanic you can to its limits. This is especially true in boss fights where you need to manage your resources effectively instead of burning out quickly. The classes from the original game were rebalanced and given more skills that allows a lot more variety in party building. Classes left without a niche in 2 were given a second chance in Untold 2. The classes play in a more dynamic manner, where instead of focusing mainly on one or two attack skills, a variety of them is needed to succeed. Dungeons are standard Etrian fare, with a focus on avoiding boss-like enemies on the map known as FOE in order to advance. Of course, players can always opt to attack them as well and reap great rewards. If I had to complain, it'd be about the tutorials. Despite the game being difficult on Expert, they still feel the constant need to explain every little dungeon gimmick such as how enemies on the map move. Though handled much better than in Untold, there's still an amount of RNG handled in the Grimoire system which can be frustrating. Despite these flaws, it's hard not to recommend this game.

Wow this is much better than the first EO Untold. I love the abilities in this one much, much more, especially some of the Sovereign ones (not to mention the fact this game actually *has* a Sovereign at all). I think the music is improved, too. It feels easier, but I can always bump up the difficulty if I'd like.

Typical overrated Atlus trash. A game i should have liked, since i am an oldtime hardcore PC RPG fan, but if you think this game has anything to do with the classics, you need to change your hobby and begin stamp collections. There is no challenge in this game. The gameplay mechanics are very simple and boring, all you have to do is grind like your life is worth nothing and you can throw hours upon hours in the garbage bin. Grind=win type of game, like most of Atlus trash, with a nice anime/manga presentation to appeal to the kiddies. Just avoid if you value your time.

It makes a lot of small improvements but it makes too many steps backwards to be as good as its predecessors. Dumb story, spongey FOEs and bosses, horrid 5th stratum, unbalanced classes, and an updated soundtrack that disappoints in its remakes of FM songs.

There's nothing new here, but that's fine. Its nice enough to get a "retelling" of the story of the original game with nice cut scenes every once in a while. The mapping is easier than ever, but you can adjust how much the game helps you on that, so you can go back to original "do it all yourself" mode if you want. The game is easier than the original release, even on expert mode, but that's fine. I'm finding it offer just enough of a challenge to allow me to enjoy it. Overall, as an Etrian longtimer that doesn't have entire days to devote to the game anymore, I'm pleased with it.
