Clannad is a Japanese visual novel where you play as a young man called Tomoya Okazaki who spends his days going to school and hanging out with his friends. After a slow start the plot really starts to develop and you will find yourself involved in various romances and in other dramatic storylines. You will also cry a lot because the game can be really touching sometimes. I only wish that the game didn’t have so much filler material. It would have been better if the game had been a bit shorter. [March 2016]
I don’t remember the last time I was so interested in a story labelled as “romance,” but then came Clannad and everything changed. I never know a romance story could be so engaging, so multifaceted, and so emotional.
My biggest complaint to the CLANNAD visual novel is just how long it is. Having all the different routes and choices is great but it is also very time-consuming.

Up there in the Visual Novel Hall of Fame for sure. Clannad separates itself from other Japanese VNs by telling an emotional story void of the cliche elements present in so many others. There aren't lewd jokes or fanservice, it doesn't stray too far into goofiness; instead, it tells a mostly grounded story with some of the strongest emotional moments in any VN. If you've struggled to get into these games in the past, Clannad is the easiest and best point of entry you could choose.

As a visual novel game, Clannad is definitely an unforgettable experience. It is not just telling a story, but taking us into a world full of emotions in the most gentle and delicate way. At the beginning of the game, you will feel that it is just an ordinary school story, but as the plot deepens, especially the development of After Story, it makes you go from laughter to tears, bringing a profound emotional baptism. Each character's story line is full of unique charm. Whether it is the protagonist Tomoya or other supporting characters, as they grow and experience, you will unconsciously invest in it, as if you have experienced their joys and sorrows in person. In particular, the game's depiction of family, friendship, and love is very real and delicate. Many times, you will stop at a certain plot node and reflect on your life, and even feel that you have been "healed" by the **** music of Clannad cannot be ignored. It runs through the whole story and perfectly integrates with the plot. The song "Dumpling Family" is even more unbearable to listen to countless times. It seems to have become a symbol of the game, and every time it sounds, it can evoke your deep nostalgia for the plot of the **** general, "Clannad" is not just a game, it is more like an emotional journey, in which you can feel the ups and downs of life, the difficulties of growing up, and the cherishment of life. If you want to experience a game that can really touch your heart, "Clannad" is definitely worth playing.

Clannad is a visual novel that everyone should complete at least once in their lives. The hard part will be securing enough time to persist through every route in the proper way to see the true ending.

Clannad is a great story, I love it. However, on Steam, this "game" is $50. Why would I pay $50 for the Visual Novel when I could pay $15 for the show on iTunes? $30 if you include After Story. If it was on sale for less than $10, maybe I'd get it. Unfortunately, it's not, and it simply isn't worth all that money for me. Now, I wouldn't count this as a "Game" either because it is a Visual Novel. It's actually just a more expensive version of the show. There's no real "gameplay". It's just like clicking to get to the next slide in a slideshow of slightly poorly drawn anime characters. Honestly, I could draw better than that when I was in elementary school. Obviously this is just my personal preference, but sacrificing "Gameplay" because I'd rather watch the show for about $35 cheaper, I think that's a better idea for me and my wallet.
