When Bravely Default launched, it was a very solid 3DS exclusive RPG with combat system taking a new approach. Its HD version show that this JRPG aged well and the better graphics enhances visual experience, astonishing atmosphere and great tactics. It is a double return – to FF roots and its own start with perfect Brave & Default moves.

While not everything comes over smoothly, I think this HD remaster makes some necessary changes to fit modern platforms. Adding extra gimmicks in the form of Joy-Con 2 minigames will maybe hamper this going to further platforms, but it is in spirit with the original duology’s love of gimmick features from the 3DS. I’m not fond of cutting all the added story scenes connecting Bravely Second, but this does a good job bringing back the original game in all its glory. I may not love this game, but I’ve grown to respect it a lot and think it was important in keeping the Job System alive in Square Enix RPGs. This is a solid remaster effort of an enjoyable game, despite some odd choices. The visual upgrades are tasteful, the audio has much less compression than it did on 3DS, and there’s dual audio now. I find more value out of Second for being far more experimental in comparison, but what is here is still unique for the niche these games exist in. There’s a lot here for Switch 2 fans looking for a long RPG from arguably a more experimental era of portable gaming.

Bravely Default is a special JRPG. Its first hours are amazings because it feels like the classics Final Fantasy, but after that, the game starts a boring loop that ruins the experience. It's still being a recommended RPG because the art style and, specially, its turn based combat are great, but you need to open your mind and accept its faults. [Recommended]

Pretty awful. People are only nostalgic about it because the seventh generation was the worst one for JRPGs and Final Fantasy was especially on a bad spot (with XIV carrying it alone nowadays). Lost Odyssey and Fantasian completely BTFO Bravely Default.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the kind of revival that reminds you why certain games become legends in the first place. This isn’t just a visual upgrade — it’s a celebration of one of Square Enix’s most imaginative, heartfelt, and mechanically brilliant RPGs of the modern era. Visuals That Feel Like a Storybook Come AliveThe HD remaster breathes new life into Luxendarc. The hand‑painted towns, the soft watercolor palette, and the iconic pop‑up book aesthetic now look sharper, richer, and more magical than ever. Every location feels like a living illustration, and the improved resolution makes exploring them a joy. A Soundtrack That Still Hits Like a DreamRevo’s soundtrack was already legendary, but hearing it in remastered clarity is something else entirely. The soaring battle themes, the emotional character motifs, the sweeping overworld tracks — they all land with renewed power. It’s the kind of soundtrack you keep listening to long after you’ve put the controller down.️ The Job System: Still One of the Best in JRPG HistoryBravely Default’s job system remains a masterclass in player freedom. Mixing classes, experimenting with builds, discovering broken combos — it’s all here, and it’s all as addictive as ever. The Brave/Default mechanic still feels fresh, rewarding smart planning and bold risks in equal measure. A Story That Balances Charm, Mystery, and HeartThe narrative blends classic JRPG charm with deeper themes of fate, identity, and sacrifice. The cast — Tiz, Agnès, Edea, and Ringabel — shine brighter than ever thanks to polished visuals and improved presentation. Their banter, growth, and emotional arcs remain some of the most memorable in the genre. Quality‑of‑Life That Makes the Adventure SmootherThe remaster trims the rough edges without touching the soul of the original. Faster load times, cleaner menus, and smoother performance make the journey more enjoyable while keeping the game’s identity intact.--- Final Verdict: 10/10 — A Timeless JRPG PerfectedBravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is everything a remaster should be: respectful, enhanced, and revitalizing. It preserves the heart of the original while presenting it with modern polish. Whether you're returning to Luxendarc or discovering it for the first time, this version delivers a magical, emotional, and endlessly rewarding ****’s not just a great remaster — it’s a reminder of why JRPGs matter.

Bravely Default Fairy Flies HD Remaster is a masterclass at least as effective as the original game, which is why the score is identical. This unhoped-for remaster sublimates an already beautiful and inspired JRPG, giving it a well-deserved second youth. With the exception of a couple of amusing but anecdotal mini-games, it lacks any major new features, but it modernizes and adapts to the new platform with formidable efficiency. It's gorgeous, extremely generous, as addictive as ever, and the soundtrack remains incredible. If there's one Nintendo Switch 2 launch game that deserves your attention, in addition to the indestructible Mario Kart World, it's this Bravely Default Remaster.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a great experience. The original was phenomenal, and everything the remaster adds and changes usually works in its favor. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the best way to experience the 3DS classic today, and a spectacular Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. I just hope this means Bravely Second will get the same treatment, or that Bravely Third is even in development.

An unassuming but essential bit of art preservation, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is an excellent way to experience one of the best RPGs of the 21st century. Team Asano’s love letter to the genre remains a fresh and engaging medley of systems and theme, even if the new Switch 2 minigames add little to the already wonderful experience.

Having finished Bravely Default multiple times on 3DS, it’s safe to say that the primary experience and story are intact with the Switch 2 release. If you’ve never played a Bravely Default game, this is a decent way to do so if you happen to have a Switch 2 and not a 3DS–although you can buy a secondhand 3DS and Bravely Default game for much less than the cost of Nintendo’s newest console. The visual upgrade is nice on the whole, but I personally prefer how the characters looked on 3DS, and how the cities and towns popped off the 3DS screen. The inability to set the encounter rate to 0 from the outset is a bit disappointing, and the added mouse-focused mini-games don’t offer much in the way of entertainment. Nonetheless, any turn-based RPG fan worth their salt needs to be able to say that they’ve played Bravely Default, and Flying Fairy HD Remaster represents a fantastic way to christen your Switch 2. If you’ve already played it through once or twice on 3DS, my recommendation is a little less resounding.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remasteris exactly what it claims to be: a no-frills, touched-up rerelease of a beloved RPG. The mini-games are not enough on their own to warrant double-dipping, and some of its changes will take getting used to for fans, but both fans and newcomers can walk away satisfied with the updated visuals and features. Flaws of the original remain, as do its strengths, but a great game remastered is a great game made better, leading this to be the definitive way to play Bravely Default.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a good remaster that might not do much to freshen up the original experience, but it does make an already good game available to a new generation of RPG fans.

How does Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster hold up in 2025? In short, it holds up poorly unless you’re a big fan of the franchise, or just love JRPG tropes with a passion. Even the combat mechanics that lends the game its name wear thin, leaving little about this game to really recommend against more inventive JRPGs or Switch 2 launch titles. For the first time ever I'd rather play a racing game than a JRPG.

Considero que es un juego muy bueno, Square Enix sabe hacer muy bien este tipo de juegos. un clásico remasterizado con el fino detalle que distingue a la compañía. El juego después de 10 horas me ha fascinado.

Look, I tried it again nearly 10 + years later and i just dont get it. Its SO SLOW. There does not seem to be much to the characters personalities, dialogue or game that doesn't follow standard rpg stuff or crystal/ FF design its so standard in stuff and brave and default is just not enjoyble. Classes are fine but its so slow to get and it still feels grindy and like you constantly go to the side to fulfill main plot. There is just nothing to hook me or that stands out as a RPG besides the ost which i already know about. I'm sure its a fine if odd rerelease but I don't get why its enjoyable to repeat this multiple times for the true ending when the base content is so meh.
