There’s a pedestrian tone to the script that makes this all less compelling than it should be.

So far, so good. It seems like The Traitors still has all the things you liked before. .... The show must be a living panic attack to participate in, but it’s so, so much fun to watch.

The dialogue is knowingly pastichey, which is unfortunately not something all of the cast have the confidence to carry off. But if the show feels less than the sum of its parts, there’s something in its celebration of a plucky, bold heroine, in the vein of The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, that feels comforting, like a warm hug.

Director Lucy Bowden perfects the balance between the camp elements to this tale – it’s all soundtracked like a Poirot Christmas special – while never losing sight of the fundamental cruelty at its heart.

Both the Beckhams describe the making of the documentary as “therapy” – but it will probably be just as cathartic for a generation of fans still starry-eyed with nostalgia for those halfway-line lobs.

The thinly drawn, two-dimensional characters leave the actors helplessly stranded. Only Varma escapes with her dignity intact. Murphy, so good as Ann Gallagher in Happy Valley, has to play a sexual cipher, while Armitage's performance mainly seems to entail "man trying to not have an erection".

An almost unendurable three additional hours of grudge-rehashing gives very little further insight into why the pair remain so furious at the Royal Family.

Live[s] up to its no-holds-barred expectations. ... There's plenty of dynamite stuff to give the Sussexes' detractors something to spew over. At points, it's hard to tell if the couple are naïve or disingenuous. ... But, at times, I find the couple endearing; at others, deeply sympathetic.
