If what you want to see is Godzilla vs [redacted name of familiar Godzilla franchise monster] then this is the wrong film. This film tries to do something lofty and existential ala Evangelion, which is to not focus on the action that is supposed to happen in the film, but to focus on what happens behind it. I'm sure lots of folks like that, but I'm a fan of monsters beating on other monsters, or humans beating on monsters, and what you get is disappointing. If you hate the way Evangelion goes from somewhat entertaining giant mech vs monster action, you're going to hate this. If you came here knowing what happened in the last film, think about how Mechagodzilla is mentioned but is an actual city instead of a Mecha- or a "godzilla". I just wish I could go back in time and not watch any of the trilogy. Hard disappoint. I gave it a 4 because I felt like the animation was nice to look at and I cared about the characters until almost the end of the story when I could see where things were headed.
