This is the game I have played the most over the past decade. Maybe its an age thing, but I play this when I have some free time and complete challenges as I play. It certainly got off to the wrong start, but in its current guise its an unmissable experience for a Halo fan.

If you loved the original, chances are you'll love this, especially after 12 years of devolving within the arcade racing genre. There really has been no racing game since Paradise which aimed this high and it still has a sense of speed that Forza and Need for Speed wish they could have. It still has problems with the open world formula and shows its age when compared to future sandbox games. You would love to pinpoint markers to drive to, or fast travel to the junkyard for example. Still, play it again and the sense of fun is just wonderful.

Danger Zone 2, a spiritual successor to the Burnout Crash mode, has exactly what you would want from that summary. The game plays closer to 3's style of crash mode, with tokens, smashbreakers and a quicker time limit. Unlike the earlier crash mode, Danger Zone feels like it has more strategy, as you really need to use impact time perfectly to move around and get cash bonuses. Surprisingly, traffic checking returns, and when driving big wheelers, this becomes incredibly fun in the lead up to a junction. If you hated this mechanic in Revenge, then try it out here. DZ2 isn't focused too much on racing fast, so the mechanic as is isn't the dealbreaker some saw it as back when racing was a focus. I have played on a low end PC, and the graphical downgrade was inevitable. Still, I play this game after work, and a few junctions each night is exactly how a game like this should be played. Quick, intense fun to unwind. So I do recommend it if you want to kick back, and don't plan on a long weekend in some massive sandbox that you will barely complete without spending hours.

One of those games where it will be enjoyed by fans of the first game, but won't convert anyone that disliked the first game. Yes, the movement is better and the striking aesthetic is still there, but the story is just as bad as the first, and the real meat comes from beating friends in time trials. If you enjoy that sort of game, outrunning other players to the finish using every bit of terrain, then this is your bag.

A flawed game that I really wanted to like, fresh off the heels of Dishonored, but the clunky movement and small, claustrophobic areas just aren't large enough for me to get a sense of choice. Technically impressive, but the game inside is hard to like.

Not a bad game, heck achieving a game like this with no bugs encountered at all to level 20 is astounding. Unfortunately all the solid specs in the many worlds of this game cannot save the fact that its boring. The gunplay is fantastic but its used to grind samey enemies in the same environments with the same zone defence objective. Destiny also feels like its missing worldbuilding on its information and gameplay models. Reading lore off a website is not the same as reading it in-game, and I feel bungie could have implemented Halo: Reach's space combat to explore the planets instead of using a dead boring loading screen. Not bad, but incredibly disappointing considering the hype, legacy and investment.

Take the original game, then add in unnecessary bull like microtransactions and an always online connection to **** the fun out. DLC level packs for the original would have been a better money model. While its still fun with friends, the new barriers to entry are almost dealbreakers when you fancy playing it with friends for the first time on a level playing field. The core is still fun though.

A great social game, put it on with drinks and crisps and everyone is happy for a while before moving on with the night to the tunes and films. Not especially made for the long run once its all done but entertaining while it lasts. Like I said, best as a stop gap between serious games or just for fun.

From someone who never thoroughly cared much about the NFS franchise to begin with I will say its a pleasant surprise. Sure, its still not what I want but I can see the NFS heritage in this game given its own identity. With this being a criterion game I was surprised that it felt more like a NFS game than a burnout one, but I feel it has more in common with the racers of the 90's like porsche challenge in that its about racing exotic cars around pretty environments while police sirens crop up occasionally. This isnt a bad thing seeing as this form of racing has been absent in a while so seeing it make a return is nice. Controls are simple, the difficulty is just challenging enough to need replying when making mistakes, and its far from a true simulation, but nothing will be too hard for racers of all levels. I feel those looking for in depth customization or controls will be disappointed by the game, just a warning. as an arcade racer though, its not half bad and is good fun, though it can grind at the later half of the career.

Buying Blur and Split/Second at a similar time has resulted in inevitable comparisons, and while I find Blur to be the superior game, Split/Second is far from a bad one and its personal preference at this point as to what people prefer. The sense of speed and sheer intensity when everything is exploding is in its favour, but it gets a bit too repetitive for my liking. A few more tracks or maps would have done a world of good to the racing. The level 2 plays are someones true racing fantasy being played out on screen, but its just not to my taste. It has a bit in common with Burnout revenge with its art style and racing theme of battling over racing which I do like since no other game has done that for me in years. Worth a look for arcade racers and thrillseekers alike

While I have played racers that have a purer fun factor and others with OTT simulation, this is likely the slickest racing game I will ever play. The mere act of driving through the streets of its many cities is cool in every sense, particularly at night and your favourite track on the in game radio comes on. The difficulty is just about right, arcade mode in particular demands a challenge even for gold medals which makes them all the more satisfying once you have attained them. Graphically still holds up, the cities are wholly convincing and little touches like the cable cars moving in the background of Barcelona or trains on the rails above in Chicago show a great deal of care. Racing feels smooth, not frustrating like sims can be but definitely need a bit of mastery that other arcade racers don't cater for. Racing style is what the game wants, and you will want to beat the game with as much Kudos as possible after a short time getting in the groove, and ultimately its a game that's very hard to put down. Buy if you liked the other PGR games, and try it out if forza is just not as fun as you would like, but still want a game with somewhat grounded racing.

A truly abysmal game, but I cannot help but enjoy it as an unintentional comedy. Yes, the game would be considered bad even 10 years ago, but the sheer amount of mistakes does make for entertainment. Just how did a sidequest of sexing up women in a back alley immediately after beating up the attackers get in the game? the aiming is horribly stiff yet headshots are guaranteed a lot of the time. The baddies die in a sort of assassins creed way of finding out the ultimate mystery, but the big reveal could not be anymore antclimactic. Jake getting angry after one of the rival boss bikers dies has made me laugh a few times, and adding to it is an overly corny 60's rock track which does not fit the tone a lot of the time. Recommended to play if you are into playing games to find out why they are bad, and ONLY if its at bargain bin price. A full retail buy is not to be done at any cost.

The funny thing in my mind is that if Ghosts actually went by its apparent ideas of guerrilla warfare, of laying traps, using stolen enemy weapons and approaching enemies with more thought than shooting anything that moves, that it would be a cult hit for those longing for an expansion of CoD4's All Ghillied Up missions Unfortunately, in the hands of a post Zampella/West Inifinity Ward, it is bizarrely as bad, even worse than its World War 3 styled predecessors in terms of bombastic set pieces, and about as stealthy as a truck with giant amps blaring out nu-metal full blast at the enemy. The graphics may claim to be better, but such bland art direction makes it look worse than Black Ops 2's near future style. Gameplay is as recycled as you can get, and new ideas seem to be taken as jokes by the devs, who would much rather stick with their formula than try anything remotely new, in case players have a weird fear of change. The campaign is very forgettable, and considering that an oscar winner wrote it that's a surprise. It is just as racially insensitive as MW3 when it comes to depicting anyone other than the U.S (come on, South america this time?), and there is no emotional connection to the player character. Crucially, it takes itself far too seriously, so there is no fun to be had at its own silliness the way Blops 2 had. Simply put, doesn't live up to its promises, and instead sticks to a far too worn path that most have got sick of at this point.

Any game that has you saying 'just one more race' and then realising that daylight is coming out of the curtains after a long night playing has to be given a good score. Online is highly addictive, and while it may be a small population, every player is friendly and competitive in all the right amounts. Dive in to a game that deserved better, but even without the tragic history aspect its a fast paced, action packed racer that has little for simulation fans, but anyone after pure fun will find it here. Well worth a purchase.

Its a good game, but nothing makes it feel as great as its predecessors. Ezios story really drags here, but there are a few good moments that will stick. Altairs segments didnt reach the potential it could have been if the game was given more development time. It also feels shorter in overall length, but its still an AC2 era game so if you liked 2 and Brotherhood and this is on offer, give it a go.

A game that aims so high its hard not to respect. The emphasis on your targets this time round over the protagonist is certainately different, and mechanics are streamlined, though in some ways the older schemes could have worked better. You do pretty much everything from board games to naval missions to sneaking & hunting. The big problem is that the actual assassinations have gone from openly exploring/ planning an attack to approaching them the game wants you to do so (scripted chases, quicktime events & areas where you get detected from taking any other route than the games expected path). On top of that there is not much focus on the assassinating in a game called Assassins Creed. It feels more like an American Revolution life simulator instead. Still, for all the faults its a breath of fresh air into the series, which was getting tired by Revelations, and if you liked the gameplay from the last few games this is one to get.

My personal favourite Call of Duty title. A step up from Call of Duty 4 in most ways, but that also means its relative simplicity is lost in the process. Singleplayer is short but full of action and set pieces, before everyone got bored to death of them. Special ops is a simple timesplitters esque challenge mode for coop play. Multiplayer is still buggy to this day, but my oh my, when its played as it should there will never be an experience as fun or action packed as this. Highly doubt that Ghosts will surpass the game

Solid entry into the series, and likely to be the game non fans will think of when people say call of duty, more so than the others. Its not perfect, in fact its perhaps balanced to a fault in its multiplayer, but its not as incredibly boring as MW3 was, nor as schizophrenic as its sequel Black Ops II. At the same time, you cant really go wrong with it, and generally you are rewarded for good play as opposed to your killstreaks and cheap tactics.

THE definitive Xbox 360 First person multiplayer shooter, and in my opinion the greatest shooter of the second half of the 2000's. Nothing beats it from the best ranking system of this generation, to the arsenal available, to the powerups and map layout, to the vehicular mayhem of Big team battle. Time has made this even better. Whereas almost all shooters now have the XP levelling popularised by Call of Duty 4, play those now and you will rarely get to the top without a lot of hitches and frustration. Halo 3 has you start the same as everyone else, and makes for strategic knowledge of the map, weapon roles, and playing as a unit. Its great to have this setup, and I long for a similar game without grinding for XP. with a stable population still, now in its sixth year after release, Halo 3 is the old king of the 360 that still has reason to be played.

I cant fault the game for its presentation; this is probably the best the 360 can ever look, and add in a soundtrack where I went looking for the tracks on youtube. The sound effects are done brilliantly, where firing an assault rifle for the first time gives you eargasms, and the environments are varied and gorgeous. The game falls down a bit in the gameplay. Its added in modern annoyances that will deter veterans, but will have newer players looking to see if its for them. Sprint, new abilities, and choosing custom loadouts are a way to catch up with the Military shooters, but it loses the earlier games feeling of being on the same playing field at the start, and picking up powerups and weapons as you go. Having custom loadouts inherently changes players status on the battlefield, and as such loses that competitive edge from Halo 2 and 3. The lack of ranked playlists is the nail in the coffin for competitive types, but social still has its good clean halo fun. The campaign is deeper from a character narrative, but seems like it has less scope than Halo 3. It has new enemies to fight, and new weapons to fight them with to keep it from feeling ancient. The main problem is its overly linear feel, but aside from that its still a solid story for the fans. 343 have done a great job with keeping Halo as a AAA shooter, and despite the complaints I have with the game, it does not mean I hate it. I like the halo feel, while questionning the new direction, and hope the next game they develop improves upon the linear nature of single player, and change the multiplayer somewhat.

Arguably everything thats wrong with the series, MW3 came out when the opposition were crying out "same game every year", and what did we get as a **** same game as MW2 and CoD4. It stubbornly refused to change the multiplayer, keeping flaws from MW2 and not learning lessons from Black Ops. It kept the blandness of the repetition, without realising that fun can be in the other games at times. Had the lawsuits never happened, this might have been a different story, **** with changes akin from CoD4 to MW2, but well never know. Everyone suffered by getting this instead. MW4 may be different this year, but its got a tough act to follow now that Black Ops 2 actually did some change to the series

An improvement over the recent Call of Duty games of late, though starting to lag behind the fresher competitors out there. The base mechanics are pretty much the same as the last few entries, but implemented for a better experience. The campaign is a step forward with added challenges, branching outcomes, and somewhat less cluttered than Black Ops, along with a more fleshed out villain in Menendes. If the previous games pissed you off at the single dimensional character traits of an evil villain, with the western powers as being overly heroic, then this will be a good enough story for the fans, with much more balanced perspectives. Still, not nearly as impressive as say Spec Ops:The line. Multiplayer is a bit different to the last few entries, with a pick 10 system put in instead of the create a class. Instead of selecting between preset tiers, you pick out whatever you fancy to fill in the 10 slots, be it weapon attachments, perks, or equipment. Its not as flawed as my first impressions went, and each slot is valuable to your class. Once you jump in, the game has issues. Maps are somewhat cluttered, and a downgrade from the likes of MW2, but a mile better than MW3. Killstreaks can be dominant, especially the higher ones, but they rarely make you rage quit, and are not dealbreaking. Spawns have the same CoD problems, and staying still even for a second can often get you killed. That all said though, its still a great experience, and there is that addictive quality of the games that keeps you back for more. An improvement in every way over MW3, and a few tads better than Black Ops. The engine may be old, but the game has the hallmarks of a dev team that wanted to try something different to a series stuck in old ways. Heres hoping they can get a next gen experience for their next title
