I loved this game ever since it released. I recently revisited this one in anticipation for Ghost of Yotei, and because my girlfriend never played, so she was really excited to witness the story. The story of Jin Sakai is extremely riveting, breaking away from his clan to save his homeland, and doing whatever it takes to do so. The voice acting (I play in Japanese with subtitles), writing, and cinematography is some of the best I've witnessed in a video game. Jin transforms from being an honorable samurai into a brutal ghost-like savage who's feared by the enemy. You essentially become feudal Japan Batman minus the no-killing rule. The gameplay makes you feel like a force of nature, a bad omen for the Mongol invaders. Game-feel is a big proponent of these AAA titles, and **** Punch nailed it. Despite the PS4 version of the game releasing in 2020, the game still has some of the best graphics that I've ever seen. It even boasts a robust photo-mode because it knows that it's that beautiful. The highlight in terms of gameplay is definitely the combat. Mowing down waves of enemies feels great on harder difficulties when you really have to perfect parry at the right times and flow with the fight. The downside here is the stealth makes this game extremely easy at points. Even if you play on the game's "lethal" (one hit death) difficulty. I think it works both for and against the game because according to this universe's lore, Jin is the first Shinobi (ninja) in history, so nobody has ever encountered a warrior like this before. Yet the AI in these situations are very dumb. You can be standing right in front of an enemy and they'll begin to detect you, but if you jump onto a roof, still in their eye-line, they'll lose sight of you. Despite this it didn't detract from the enjoyment I had playing. My personal favorite gameplay mechanic is the "terrify" mechanic. As your legend grows and "The Ghost" becomes more notorious, enemies will become terrified more easily and will run away. I at one point made an entire troop of enemies cower in fear just from showing up. I love that because it just adds onto the feeling of being an unstoppable badass. By the end of the game you'll literally feel like the Ghost of Tsushima. And I know, the whole "this game makes you feel like..." is a overused turn-of-phrase, but this may be the most applicable game for it. I highly recommend this experience for every PS/Steam player. Hands down one of my favorite games ever.

My thoughts on this game are the same that I had with the previous installment. That is because EA releases the same broken half-baked game every year, bringing back features from the early 2000s and making it a selling point. I had high hopes for franchise just to be perpetually pissed off while playing. There's no point in even delving into detail about this stuff. The only thing I'll say is that the wear & tear system is horrifically bad. It turns these real-life super-athletes into weaklings made of glass that get hurt every single game. I'm almost convinced that the devs of this game aren't even fans of football nor do they even watch the sport. Another stinker again.

I can’t believe that I bought this game at a 70% discount and it still feels like a ripoff. Gameplay is sloppy feeling and completely whacked out. Running the ball is impossible with repeated missed blocking assignments. Passing is somehow even worse. There’s no control over the arc of the ball and it’s either a noodle armed 20 yard under throw, or a piss missile thrown to the farthest DB away from the intended receiver. I just played a handful of online matches and have never enjoyed a game less than that

I just beat my first run of the game and got the true ending so everything is pretty fresh in my head for this review. I'll try to maintain spoiler free. Like many, I was only fairly familiar with Journey to the West and Sun Wukong, but didn't know the full story and its many details. I think this game is a fantastic title that I feel got snubbed for game of the year. Sure, its a boss rush game and sometimes the invisible walls are annoying, but none of that detracted from my experience. Honestly my biggest complaint was that there was no map, but since the new update I'm pretty satisfied. I don't know why people are complaining about the gameplay because people hold every single FromSoft game in the highest regard. I've played a majority of them to completion and they are all boss rush games that have a minimalist story; not saying they're bad I love all of those games. Could Wukong have been better in some parts? Of course, but the overarching, captivating story, and fun gameplay loop led to an amazing experience. I'm just confused about how the gameplay of this game has literally enraged some people. I've played pretty much every major single player action/adventure/souls-like title to release in the last 2 decades, aside from Stellar Blade, and at no point was I upset at how the game was structured or the overarching gameplay loop. It seemed fine and everything was expected. Maybe people wanted Breath of the Wild meets Dark Souls meets Witcher 3 meets Baldurs Gate meets Ocarina of Time meets Mario Galaxy meets.........

As a longtime Dragon Ball Z fan, this game initially was awesome. Like many, I grew up playing Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and I had a blast when Sparking Zero officially launched; going through the story mode and playing some local matches with my nephew. Unfortunately, this games online multiplayer is putrid, and theres not much to do after playing through the story if you're looking for a solely single-player experience. I'm completely aware that this game is a party arena fighter that is meant to be unbalanced from character to character, but its other issues that make online gameplay rough. Firstly, for the first two weeks of this games launch there was a bug that swapped a player's "classic" control scheme anytime they entered a match with a person that was using "standard". Paired with brutal input lag and unreliable servers, this made the game completely unplayable until the patch. Even then, with the ability to use automated controls and a player base that only uses the two best characters to tier farm, what's the point of even having a ranking system? This game has wayyyyy less content than its 20 year old predecessor. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had a lot more story mode content, and had other super fun single player modes that provided a lot of replay-ability, but not here. Each character has 5 custom outfit slots, yet 90% of the roster has only one. Goku and Vegeta barely have any if you don't count "battle-damaged" looks. BT3 even gave every outfit 2 custom color options if I'm not mistaken. The world tournament mode is the same that it's always been, which I don't have any qualms with (if it isn't broke don't fix it), but outside of that, the story, and custom battles there's literally nothing to this game that is $70 not including sales tax. Even the story mode content is half baked. The alternate timelines are cool and the presentation of it is nice, but the cutscenes are literally slide shows that use emotes instead of animating character movement. It seems like this game is dead already as well. The hype was so real now it seems like everyones moved on. Queue times for matches are super long, and while this is all par for the course for anime arena fighters, I think we all expected a little more. Once the nostalgia fades, you never want to touch this game again lol.
