A dangerous new branch of math, Dark Calculus, was discovered—proofs that unravel themselves and threaten spacetime. The Coven unanimously banned it, with Ptoh agreeing.Eventually, Ptoh was imprisoned—likely for secretly studying Dark Calculus. The Eaters, led by Saad Amus, King of Salum (now Qud), managed to trap Ptoh on Earth. Ptoh tried to bribe a guard with a powerful artifact but failed. A psychic faction, the Seekers of the Sightless Way, still serve Ptoh and seek to free it.Later, the Eaters succumbed to some great temptation, and Earth was placed under an injunction, cut off from alien contact. Civilization collapsed.
