The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild7
Mar 8, 2017
Was not the biggest fan early on and I thought the world felt a bit empty and felt abit mmo style in it's encounters, after another 10 hours I'm finding I enjoy it much more than my original impressions. The shrines work well at adding a hook and I've been surprised they haven't gotten too dull. I am hoping the frame rate can be improved with a patch because it can chug at times. I still prefer the earlier zelda games but this is solid but a bit over rated at the moment.

While I hate the decision to only include 4 races I have to say the game is great. Really nailed the warhammer look and feel gameplay is tight, graphics are great. If they'd had more races it would have been a 10 for me so far.

Far Cry Primal6
Mar 8, 2016
The game play is solid like all far cry games but the story and setting are just repetitive and too easy. Once you tame bigger animals they will just kill everyone while you watch. I'd recommend far cry 4 over this which is a shame because I'm a big fan of pre history and the setting is right up my alley.

Star Wars Battlefront5
Dec 6, 2015
Mediocre is the key word with battlefront. The graphics and presentation are top notch but the game play is a major let down. Flying feels nothing like being in a plane let a lone a space ship. Just feels terrible and every ship feels the same. Having different manoeuvres be a button push is stupid as well. The game is like a second rate version of COD with star wars skins instead of being a battlefield style tactical game like it should be.

Solid game, plays well and nothing to complain about gameplay wise. The story was mediocre and by the time I finished I was left thinking we only got a 20 minute tv show episodes worth of actually story as opposed to a full movie's worth most games give. Well worth playing but I wish the story had been better done as I'm not one to go for all the collectibles (although the hidden tombs are great fun). The story is also very short, I finished the story in 8 hours first, I've spent more time doing the hidden things and exploring but just be aware it's short if you power through.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception6
Nov 8, 2015
After the greatness of UC2, UC3 is a huge let down. The AI is a huge step down, they run at you blindly then take cover next to you while still being in line of sight like they want to commit suicide (tlou has this problem too), the shooting mechanics **** with hits not registering until an enemy has reached it's cinematic entrance, or shooting through gaps in a backless bookcase don't register hits because the enemy is in cover even though visible which means you can't hurt them, enemies spawn behind you in dead ends you already cleared so the tough sections are about learning the pattern rather than actually being good at the game. The story is mundane and a let down compared to the first two, there's far too many long boring stretches on running/walking or not doing much. Just a big let down after the first two games.

Until Dawn8
Sep 26, 2015
Slow to get started (a lot of walking early on) and the facial animations are flat out bad at times but over all the game is a lot of fun if you stick with it. Once you get a few chapters in the story really picks up and you become invested in the characters. I really like this style of horror game where the enemies will actually kill you! People saying the game is like the order are flat out stupid. They share quick time events yes but until dawns quick times and choices impact the story and you can shape how it plays out. It also takes around 12 hours to finish with a huge amount of replability!

Why oh why did 2k think it was a good idea to have Spike Lee of all people direct the mycareer mode? The guys got far too big of an ego and is a hack. The story has bad acting and is stupidly predictable. ALL the choice is gone from the mode. You want to make yourself in the game? Too bad your a black dude from the hood! You made a white character? Too bad you have a black family and a black BIOLOGICAL twin! There's now 15 minute cut scenes about your team owners best friend and despite the entire cast being obnoxiously **** and your main character making stupid decisions the whole time you have zero input in any of it. If I wanted to watch a bad movie I would have just rented a spike lee dvd! Luckily in your second season it goes more normal but you still get interviews about the story and still have a stupid nickname and your character has stupid reactions on court. I want to run back on defence after a dunk not sit there pretending I'm a DJ while the other team runs a fast break. You also only get to play 8 games in your rookie year and can't check the standings, stats or anything you would expect to check in a game about playing basketball. They've also removed some of the old control schemes so we are now forced to use the new one that feels like garbage, the game often locks up on a player standing on the court and randomly pointing for a few minutes and there's more unskippable broadcast stuff that bogs the games down too. The other modes might be better but I usually only play the mycareer mode, why couldn't they have had the spike lee mode separate from the regular mycareer? How did 2k think this was a good idea?

Bloodborne8
Apr 9, 2015
Great game but the bugs, load times and the repetitiveness of it forced me to drop it's score abit. Parts of the game are unfinished and unimplemented and the combat ends up being far too samey when every encounter boils down to avoiding and timing attacks. It needed a more in depth leveling system and beast system (which was talked about and shown before release but then never implemented, hints of it are still in the game)

South Park: The Stick of Truth7
Mar 25, 2015
If only it were longer (main story took me 8 hours, with most of the side quests I've still not added more than 4 or so hours to that) and less buggy. I had to reload my save a few times due to character flickering or totally disappearing. I also think some of the controls were poorly implemented to pull off attacks (some I found near impossible to get perfect on pc). That aside it's an extremely well made game and is a lot of fun. I'm a huge south park fan (the early seasons were poop jokes but it's grown and matured in to a legit great comedy) and I loved all the references and jokes, it's really just like an interactive south park movie.

Cities: Skylines7
Mar 11, 2015
An enjoyable game but a little too simple. Works well but even as a beginner it only takes a few hours to get your city to be moving a long at a sustainable rate where you have more money than you can spend and just end up constantly expanding with out hitting any real challenges besides putting in better roads. Needs more in the form of disasters or tougher management of things like crime/healthcare/homelessness etc.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag7
Feb 23, 2015
I enjoyed the first 2 assassins creed games but then got bored of the series. Picked up black flag on sale recently and it's a solid game. My biggest complaints are that the forced stealth sections are frustrating due to loose controls and schemes that have one button perform multiple functions which causes you do do things you weren't intending to do and my other biggest complaint is that you are required to have done side quests to build up your ship to progress the story which can be annoying when you hit a certain point that you cannot pass because you did not do OPTIONAL side activities earlier in the game.

Don Bradman Cricket 148
Feb 15, 2015
I also own the 360 version of this game and at launch was disappointed by the bugs and over all lack of polish that version launched with. The Xbox One version has launched with all major bugs fixed and the gameplay tweaked enough to make it easily the best cricket game around. The one criticism is that the career mode is lacking compared to titles likes NBA2k/Fifa with annoyances like no new players being generated, no one retiring or changing skills are the career progresses, no players moving between clubs, always replacing the player who bats your position in the national sides etc. I understand the game is on a much smaller budget than those other games but at the same time it retails for more than those games and should still warrant a comparison to them. Over all though it's a great product for any cricket fan and it has me very excited to see what big ant do with the franchise going forward as the framework is there it just needs a bit of polish and a few refinements.

Don Bradman Cricket 146
Feb 11, 2015
Ok this is the best cricket game on the market right now but it launched full of bugs and some of those are still hanging around. It still isn't fully flesh out, things like rosters don't change, bowling is ridiculously easy while batting is very hard on the normal difficulty and going by the forums a lot of people resort to only playing on the leg side, batting across the stumps, pre empting foot placement so the system isn't great if people have to try and exploit it and it's still very basic, but it's more of a platform for them to build on. My biggest issue with that is it still cost me more than next gen versions of similar games nba2k/fifa etc for a previous gen game that wasn't finished at launch and is still a basic game. If you love cricket you'll probably like this game but if you don't like cricket don't expect much.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection7
Dec 2, 2014
You know what you are getting gameplay wise with this collection. I am not the biggest halo fan (i'd played one and two prior to this, enjoyed one but felt two was a let down) but this package is still great and the games work better when you can play them back to back (they aren't that long). The updated visuals look good enough. If it weren't for the broken online I might rate this higher. I'm not a big player of online shooters these days so this issue hasn't bothered me and the single player campaigns have played flawlessly for me.

For what was a throw in mini game collection I found this had quite a bit of depth and re playability with friends. I particularly like the zelda and metroid games. I was putting off getting in to monster hunter until monster hunter 4 comes to Australia but I got this free with my wii u. This was my first monster hunter title and while I didn't get hooked and put in hundreds of hours I still really enjoyed my time with it. It could have been better if the villages and game play in between monster fights were more fleshed out/stream lined but once you get going with a hunt it is really a unique experience and feels great to play. I had so many tense moments and the monster designs are simply top notch.

If you like Pokemon or JPGs you will like this game. Some people are saying it should have improved on x/y but really what could it add? Even if you don't get in to the whole online battling and breeding side of things you will still get around 20-30 hours out of the storyline and battling the gyms to become a master. Such a great formula that works so well on a handheld device.

Dragon Age: Inquisition8
Nov 23, 2014
A HUGE improvement on dragon age 2. To the people giving it 0 reviews and saying the combat is hack n slash style, try increasing the difficulty. At higher difficulties the tactical view becomes far more important and useful. At lower difficulties you only need to use the tactical view for harder boss type fights. The game does a great job of presenting a massive amount of content without overwhelming the player and allows you to progress the main story and alter the main world while doing different side quests or zones. I would have rated this a 9 except I sometimes hit a bug where the conversations wheel appears but I cannot select anything and it won't go away until I run far enough away from the NPC. Happens often enough to be irritating. Other than that I have had no other technical issues though and it isn't really game impacting.

Thief6
Nov 8, 2014
While thief was not as bad as some reviews made out this game was still a let down. It's decent but quickly forgotten. Some reviews were too harsh and I honestly think it's due to a large number of people thinking they like stealth games when they don't. It has it's moments but it's a bit muddled and some open world segments serve no purpose but to frustrate and pad game time in a city that looks far too mundane and re usues far too many surfaces and textures to feel real. On the plus side most of the actual missions are enjoyable.

Ignore the 0 reviews, they are quite clearly ps fanboys trying to bring the score down. I can see how the game wouldn't be for some people but no serious review can give any well made AAA game a 0. It's pretty obvious some people haven't actually played this game when they make posts about it being for 5 year olds and children despite the language and themes present that aren't suitable for kids. Anyway I'd have to say this is the best game of the xbox one/ps4 generation so far for me. I went in expecting the jokes to be forced and cheesy but I was surprised that there was actually some well written humour in there and I didn't find it annoying at all (again unexpected). The game isn't any more repetetive than any other sandbox game such as GTA, Infamous, Dead rising etc. The "boss" encounters in this game are fun and varied (more so than any of the above mentioned games) and the presentations and animations are top notch with their comic book style intros and cut scenes. The art direction in general is pretty cool. The controls didn't take me as long to get a handle on as some claimed, if you have played tony hawks in the past you'll pick them up pretty easily but it does take a little bit of time to get your hands around pulling off some of the moves quickly while aiming. The main story is a little on the short side for this genre (good length for fps but not for a sandbox - roughly 12-15 hours for the main story with minimal side quests) but there is a bunch of side quests and activities so if you are doing those while playing the main story (and really who plays a sandbox to pump through the main story?) it's a decent length. Performance wise I've had zero issues, no pop ins, no screen tear, no lag. Those zero reviews really haven't played this game. Anyway if you own an xbox one you should give this game a go, it's a lot of fun and a breath of fresh air with it's self aware humour. Too many games these days are taking the dark approach and this looks and feels different.

While the gameplay is solid and much improved I can't in good conscious rate this game any higher than 0 due to the horrible server issues that are still occurring for me despite contacting support numerous times with no replies. While the game could have been better story and character wise I found I had a lot of fun and kept coming back to it. My only issues were that disarming traps could be difficult due to sensitive controls and some chapters dragged a little and after fighting 2 bosses I was expecting a break not another long slog. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. Not sure why some people are being so negative about this game as it was well polished and delivered what I was expecting. You can't just play this as a shooter like some people claimed here (maybe they are on casual?), if you do that you do not have enough ammo to continue. You need to use stealth and the environment to help clear out enemies while retaining enough ammo for bosses. The last couple of chapters do stray from this though and I ended up with far more parts for the agony crossbow than I could use.

If you like COD series you'll like this, plays similar to all the others. Enjoyable game if a bit bland, if i had played the last couple of entries in this series I would have probably rated this lower but so far for next gen consoles i've found it much better than killzone and bf4 has too many issues so this gets my pick for the best fps launch title so far.

I've heard a lot of people having server issues but I have no experienced those myself yet. I've been a fan of nba2k for about 5 or 6 years now and have played a lot of each release. Before getting the xbox one version I had been playing 2k14 on my PC. The good things about the move to xbox one is that the graphics are fantastic, the game play feels even more refined and the myplayer story line is an interesting add on to the game. The bad things are that the cut scenes often do not represent what is happening (I had a cut scene after the 4th pick in the draft with myplayer worried about slipping out of the first and asking how many picks were left, i was then picked next at 5), bugs (my rival went undrafted) and the biggest complaint from me is the removal of playing key games only. I'm already frustrated having to play all 82 games in my rookie season, I also think the menus and lay outs are terrible, you used to be able to hit pause and see a box score, this time you need to go into sub menus and it just seems unfinished. To me the whole storyline of myplayer feels more like we are beta testing the idea for the next release which will flesh it out more.

Expected to like this more based on reviews, found the game to be rather boring, bland and generic. It also doesn't help that the frame rate struggles at time. Passable FPS but if this came out as a new series and not as a launch title it would be getting 4-5 out of 10 from more reviewers.

Ryse: Son of Rome7
Jan 2, 2014
I just finished the campaign in Ryse a couple hours ago and I don't really understand all the hate this game is getting. The only reason I can see people giving it a one is if they are trolls or just feel let down as they expected more. I was expecting a broken/boring game based on the reviews I'd read here but it really hooked me and surprised me just how fun the game was. Straight forward, linear but fun and as others have said it looks amazing. I didn't have a single bug, a single bad camera angle or a single moment that looked glitched or anything, would have been a top game if they had of added some more depth to it and fleshed out the combat system more (although it works well later on in the game) Ryse is a well made tight hack n slash game. People expecting depth and choices should look elsewhere, people who've enjoyed other hack n slash games in the past will enjoy Ryse. It's quick and simple to get in to but gets more difficult towards the end when you actually need to time your attacks and work out when it's best to use heavy attacks and pushes. For me Ryse was a fun 10 hours and felt like an updated version of the old hack and slash games I play on my mame cabinet, I'm not entirely sure it's worth full retail price as I don't know how much playability it will hold but it is far from a bad game and is very enjoyable. I do wish there was more of a penalty when you missed the quick times though, but some people are also missing the fact that to get the max xp from a proper timed hit you need to actually predict which button to press based on the way Marius is moving his body rather than just pushing the blue colour or yellow colour, a lot of people seem to have completely missed this and I wish the game made it more rewarding and obvious that you should be predicting based on if he is moving his sword arm or shield arm.
