Best Friend Forever7

For all it's faults, BFF is definitely charming. The characters are pretty good, though not really close to as fleshed out as the ones in Dream Daddy, which this game definitely heavily takes after. The dog care mechanics do feel somewhat shoehorned in, and are easy to cheese, but I think they're just barely not too intrusive. After doing most of the routes it had me searching if there was some weird true ending where you finally actually solve the mystery of the town, and as far as I can tell, there's not- just a bunch of useless loose threads. But the fact it had me so invested to look into it is maybe good, if you look at it right.

This is definitely one of my favorite 3D platformers, and I'd absolutely call it underrated. I had this game on PC already, but when I found out it'd been ported to Switch I bought it /again/, and had a blast with it. There are some reports of frame drops, but it never really got in my way, and really my main complaint is that it's too short, which is a hell of a compliment.

Pokemon Shield5

I can best describe this game as "it's Pokemon, again!" And while Pokemon is good, this entry feels very, very tired. Yes, it has made some improvements over prior entries, the core gameplay is the same, with all of the dated mechanics therein, rushed into what's at it's core just "another one"- though it admittedly does still preserve the good parts as well. The Pokemon series has essentially survived on changing very little between entries, but with the jump to much more powerful hardware, it feels more blatant than ever. I did have a fun time with the game at launch, but several playthroughs later, the cracks are definitely showing. If you're craving a new Pokemon story, sure. This is just that, and it does have some delightful elements- the exploration of the wild area was fantastic the first time around, and I'm a big fan of some of the new designs- it's the same structure, and it's beginning to rust. I can only hope Game Freak sees the criticism and is overhauling the series, because without, I can only worry the magic will become lost on the public as it now is on me, but with the sales numbers they got, I question whether they truly have the motivation to.

On one hand, I do truly adore this game. The ambiance is spectacular, the in-game holiday celebrations are something I genuinely look forward to, and the amount of connection I feel to my little town and villagers is a bit embarrassing, and seeing the community and creations within and surrounding this is fantastic. It's been genuinely helpful in establishing a routine while at home all day, and I owe it loads for that. On the other hand, I try to be objective on some level. ACNH makes a number of significant improvements to player experience- but it stops so, so short. The one island per console restriction, the abysmal multiplayer that nearly (unintentionally) captures the absolutely dreadful, slow experience of going to a real airport, tool breakage that serves no gameplay purpose, excruciatingly slow animations for just about every action the player can preform, and so much more make this game so incredibly clunky. Nothing feels streamlined. Nothing feels good to interact with. The villagers have nowhere near enough dialogue to feel realistic, and at a point the gameplay loop gets extremely repetitive, and yet charm alone stops me from rating this any lower. There's a lot to say about atmosphere in video games, and this is a prime example of the drastic effect it can have on games. If you're interested in a nice quaint experience, you should absolutely buy it. if you're looking for a good game, look elsewhere.

This version of the game starts at a disadvantage, being based on the Bedrock (Console, Windows 10) version of the game rather than the, in my opinion, far superior Java (PC) version, but that's to be expected. The controls took a bit of getting used to, and the DLC plugs are annoying. I regrettably bought around 10 dollars worth of texture packs, which one day mysteriously disappeared from my account. It took months to get a response from Mojang support on the issue, they told me to contact Nintendo for a refund, which I didn't want- I wanted the content that dissappeared from their game back. Customer service issues aside, yes, this is Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which at its core, yes, is Minecraft. But I've experienced a number of confusing and frustrating glitches that make me vastly prefer, and only be able to wholeheartedly recommend, the PC version.

What can I say? It's groundbreaking, so much so that it's more of a tool than a game in some ways. I've poured probably thousands of hours into it. Go buy it. You will get your money's worth.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe9

i have issues with a lot of wii u switch ports, and most times that comes down to overpricing relative to lack of new content. mario kart 8 deluxe has very little new content- but for only ten dollars more than the original, which id say is what the handheld convenience is worth alone. im dissapointed they never introduced new tracks- i had this bsck on the wii u and it feels more like a port than a “deluxe” version- but its still a fantastic game at a reasonable price

the perfection of the open world genre. i bought this game on wii u soon after launch, and then when i got my switch i spent another 60 dollars to buy it again- and this was on the disposable income of a teenager with no job. probably my favorite game, and though its not a flawless experience, the positive memories will stick with you in a way i havent seen any game before do. im 4 full playthroughs in and i cant imagine ill stop now

this is the game that got me to buy a switch back in 2018, and i dont regret it. i was so excited to play i got through the story on my first night with it, and yet ive been continually coming back for more. im still yet to get all 890 moons, plus the possibilities for challenge runs and speedrunning. absolute must play, and probably the best in the mario series.

this games really fun, and all the improvements from the wii u version are good ones, but theres just not enough of them. i cant reccomend paying full price for a years-old game where you can get the same experience for 40 dollars cheaper. buy it on the wii u, or wait for the switch version to go on sale.
