All in all, this is a great entry to the Bond franchise and one that is well under appreciated. I have to believe that, should Dalton had been given additional films, he would have gone down as one of the most beloved lead actors in the franchise. While he may not have the animal magnetism Connery or even the younger Moore had, Dalton proves that Bond is more than just a pretty face, he is a bad ass agent as well. ****
Overall, The Living Daylights is a rather bland story with an action packed ending that almost makes up for the less than exciting first two thirds of the film. That being said, it has it’s moments and is a a rather fun attempt to bring in a new Bond actor. Making only two Bond Films, Dalton may not be the best in the franchise, but he is certainly not the worst. This one is worth watching at least once. ****
Overall, while this is not one of the best Bond films in the series it is still fairly solid as a whole. It is strange, it is over-the-top and completely unbelievable but, lets be honest, some of the best Bond films fit that bill much of the time. If this is your first time watching one of 007’s adventures, you could have started with much worse. ****
All in all, this isn't a bad Bond film but one that plays with all of the cliche's and tropes the Bond franchise is known for, jamming them into one well produced rehash of a nearly 20 year old film. Connery still has what it takes to be the ultimate English Spy but it is clear that this would be his last hurrah in the title role, allowing him one last chance to star in his most recognized role. If you are a fan of the franchise, this is one worth watching just to see him at it one final time. ****
This is one of Roger Moore's finest attempts at James Bond. He seems to have found a solid balance between the campy one liners and the action needed to make this character his own. Sadly, it would be his second to last performance as the British Agent soon giving way to a new actor to take the reigns. ****
‘Us’ is a thought provoking psychological film that serves a genre defining moment. Like Hitchcock,Cronenberg, Carpenter, and other horror masters before him, Jordan Peele has created something unique that film bluffs will be discussing for years to come. Frightening, unnerving and utterly mesmerizing, ‘Us’ is the new modern horror. ****
All in all, this is one of the worst of the Bond films and is really one of the entries that taint Roger Moore's run in the franchise. It is any wonder that Roger Moore managed to stay in the role after this atrocity. It's bad and there is little redemption to be had outside of the rather well done action sequences. Moore comes back for...more but we will discuss that ****
If you love comedy, if you enjoy parody, if you like puns and insanity, this is a film that will have you rolling on the floor in laughter. With iconic characters like Conan the Librarian and legendary commercials like Spatula City, this is one that keeps the laughs ****
This is a film that holds up even to this day. Although Joe Dante claims to have not been able to finish the film to his liking, I can not imagine it being any better. From the incredibly inspirational score from Jerry Goldsmith to the tremendous acting from everyone in the film, this movie is pure 80's gold. Even the special effects are incredible for the time and still hold up very well. For parents looking for a good film for kids, it is pretty kid safe (although a little heady at times) and is such a delight to watch with a younger generation. Recommended for kids 8-10 years old if they show a love for sci fi or science in ****
The truth is it is pretty dated and, unless you are a fan of 80's films or just like movies in general, I can't recommend it. The actors are really good and the filming is solid but it is VERY 80's in it's look & feel and that is very apparent throughout. I'm not saying it's bad, just dated and completely unbelievable. Think more Roger Moore than Daniel Craig. ****
It's not bad. It is very much the B-movie that Wes Craven was known for prior to his hit with A Nightmare on Elmstreet. Decent acting, fun special effects and pretty good story, it is a fun movie that doesn't try to take itself too seriously, it just tells it's story and leaves it at that. Is it the best Superhero film around? No, not even close. But is it worth watching? I think so, ****
Warts and all, to me, this is one of Roger Moore's best outings as Bond. It has everything needed to make a great Bond film, A solid villain, outstanding allies and even a believable macguffin in the Solex Agitator. It has it's problems but it's a solid ****
All in all, this is an excellent example of a Bond film and could easily be considered one of the top in the series. As with any of the Bond films there is a certain suspension of disbelief required but this one makes it pretty easy to do. ****
This is by far the campiest, most ridiculous Bond movie in the franchise thus far. As I said earlier, it has a horrible case of personality disorder switching from Spy Thriller, to Action film, to western, to sci-fi and never fully embracing any of single genre. It was almost as if the film makers wanted to corner the market on every genre so that they could fill every fanboys dream while only managing to alienate the very people who kept this franchise alive. To be honest, it is a wonder that the Bond series continued after this ghastly film. ****
This is one of Billy Crystals finest films, Monsters Inc notwithstanding and it holds up brilliantly even after 27 years. Everyone in the cast is fantastic and appear to really be having a blast during the filming of the movie. ****
Everyone in the film is spot on and plays their roles brilliantly. In addition to Val, the film also has a rather robust cast including Peter Cushing, Jeremy Kemp, Michael Gough, Omar Sharif and many others. ****
To me, this is absolutely one of the best of its time. Full of clever jokes, hilarious gags and great comedic timing, it shows Aykroyd and Chase in their prime. I cant begin to tell you what a comedic gem this film is and its rather sad that not many people are aware of it. This is one that rewards multiple viewings and with each one you will find more and more fun bits throughout. To this day I havent looked at an abandoned drive through theater the same way, you ll know what I mean when you finally watch the film. ****
Yes, the film has its campy and even downright silly moments but overall it is a fun, enjoyable movie that keeps giving with each additional viewing. Give it a go, you won it regret it. ****
To be honest, I am hard pressed to find a bad moment in the entire film. Everyone in it is at their peak and manage to give their very best performances for what is a tremendous, disturbing and hopeful film. I am not a fan of musicals as a general rule but this one stands out as so much more than just a musical. It is a Rock Opera and it is beyond amazing. ****
Overall, to me, this is by far the worst of the Star Trek films, in fact it is worse than the abysmal Star Trek V The final Frontier. Final Frontier at least kept fairly true to their characters though so it wins out. While there is much good in it, like Darth Vader, it deserves death. Unlike Vader, there is little chance for redemption. (yes, I mixed my Star Wars with my Star Trek, fight me.) ****
As for a production standpoint, this film was a nice change of pace from the insane action film that was First Contact. They knew they would never top themselves after that film so they didnt try, they just made a solid STNG film that felt like it could have easily been part of the television series itself. ****
Let me give it to you straight, it was awesome. From the moment Picard feels the Borg to the death of the Cenobite like Borg Queen (played by Alice Krige) herself it is a none stop amusement park ride featuring everything you could possibly want from a second Borg invasion. I remember going to the cinema so excited for another adventure with the members of the TNG crew and better yet, we get to see the new USS Enterprise E! ****
Overall, this was and still is, one of my favorite Star Trek Films, is it the best one, not by a longshot, but it is still a fun film and worthy of the name Star Trek. ****
This film is loud, obnoxious, a touch campy and absolutely fun. This is a great start to a whole new era of James Bond after the official departure of Sean Connery from the role. An Era that would bring us some of the most enjoyable moments in the series, Including one of the campiest and best (and most violent) Bond Villain deaths to date. ****
Overall, this isnt a bad one but it is VERY heavy on the camp and over-the-top nature of the mid half of the Bond Franchise. That being said it is a perfect lead in for the next decade of Bond films led by the former Saint, Roger Moore. ****
Overall it is a very solid entry into the Bond Mythos (minus the **** bits), and probably one of the best in terms of cinematography and script. It is one that I still enjoy time and again, even though I use some of the lengthy underwater segments as a time to grab a ****
The film itself is a blast, every aspect of it is perfect in every way. It is fun, adventurous, absurd at times, but ultimately one of the most enjoyable entries in the Sean Connery era of James Bond. To this day, every new Bond Film is compared to this movie and rightfully so. ****
With a script written by Roald Dahl of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame and a great opening theme by Nancy Sinatra, All in all, this is one of the more enjoyable adventures for James Bond, setting the stage for everything else to come post Sean Connery. While it is not the final time we see Connery as Bond, it is his last best effort in the ****
Overall, this is a solid entry in the Bond Franchise and really helps to establish what would be comes staples of the franchise as a whole. While Bond is still a womanizer, (something that will likely never completely change) this is toned down a notch to allow for some real story and character development. ****
Being the first in the series, this one sets the bar for all to come. Sean Connery fits amazingly in the role, establishing himself as James Bond within the first few moments of the film. The film has a strong plot, and although it does touch on the improbable many times over, this is what makes a film like this fun. The fact that this film is able to make such an absurd and insane plot work is a testament to its timeliness. At its core, James Bond is an adventure story with underscores of science fiction and is certainly a film that requires a certain suspension of disbelief. ****
This is a perfect jumping on point for anyone who has ever wanted to see what all the fuss about the Dragon Ball franchise was all about. Packed with enough lore and backed with a fun filled story, this film shows that a 35 year old franchise can find new life even without the help by a wish from Shenron. With how entertaining this was, I do not see the Dragon Ball universe vanishing any time soon. ****
This is the finest superhero film of 2018, possibly even the finest of the modern age. It is a game changer, one that sets a bar that even the upcoming live action Marvel Comics slate will have a hard time surpassing, let alone meeting. Sony took the same Leap of Faith that Peter tells Miles to make, I hope the other studios were paying attention, because they have their work cut out for them. ****
While this is an important film to the overall story of the MCU, it is also a very strong standalone entry that can be enjoyed by anyone who happens by. The humor is spot on, the cast is magnificent and the special effects are literally out of this world. I went in expecting more of the same and left entertained and happy. Overall this was a much more fulfilling and cohesive story than the first Ant-Man film and for that, I liked it even more. Sure the villain was a little one dimensional as a character but we cant always have a major threat in every film. Sometimes, they need to be personal. For more of the review go to: ****
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom was a fun summer blockbuster. Was it meant to be an award winning film? No, but damn was it a fun ride. Go see it if you love dinosaurs on the big screen and can check your critical mind at the door. It was worth every penny and I look forward to seeing it again when it comes out on home release format. for more go to ****
I wholeheartedly recommend this film to everyone. It's amazing in every way and, if is the first time you see it, it will surprise you. If it is the twentieth time you've seen it, it still keeps all of it's magic intact. for full review: ****
Behind all of the pop culture, references and flashy graphics, behind the intense action and humorous lines, this is a film about rediscovering reality. About realizing that, outside of the screen, outside of your room, there is a real world with real people. for more: ****
I wish I could tell you that this was, indeed, the perfect Star Wars film. That it met and exceeded every expectation that I had allowed myself to build up over the past two years but, sadly, I can’t do that. With some editing and tightening, it could have been, but like I said earlier, that is because someone wanted to give us more than needed. Overall, I had fun and that is really what matters. I went to be entertained and, I was, very much so. There are some genuinely joyful and shocking moments that will make you gasp, laugh and even get a little misty eyed. It is even one of the more humorous entries along the lines of Guardians of the Galaxy at times. Is the film good? sure, it is, but be sure to leave your expectations at the door and go to be entertained. for a detailed review go to: ****
As much as I enjoyed watching “Justice League”, it could have been so much better. You absolutely get some great performances out of the actors and can tell they’re having fun. “Justice League” did the impossible really, bringing the Justice League together and giving them enough rapport with each other to believe they’re a team. If you can make it past the horrid visual effects, odd story choices, and the film being dictated by the critics, you’ll have an enjoyable experience. And at the moment, this is the only way to see the Justice League other than in comics or animation. That’s not really a ringing endorsement is it? for more go to: ****/p93it6-1MC
At its core this is very much a rendition of the classic Poe story called A Tell Tale Heart which, honestly, is quite appropriate seeing that King is this generation’s Edgar Allen Poe. Like Poe, King’s tales can and will continue to haunt us for centuries to come well after his own demise. In this case, the beating heart is replaced by rats and they sure make themselves known. Having grown up in the 80's and 90's I was exposed to many amazing films. Films that set the stage for the cinema we now know. Groundbreaking themes, visuals, sound and more. The original film, Blade Runner, was one of these films and when a sequel was (finally) officially announced, I was both delighted and skeptical of this new film. Having seen it today, I am pleased to announce that I feel it was the perfect sequel, flaws and all. for more: ****/p93it6-Ik
The Beastmaster is a film that, to me, was an instant classic. This movie had everything a young boy of the 80’s could want. Action, swords, high fantasy, magic, an awesome hero, a sexy love interest (played by future Bond Girl Tanya Roberts), and really badass villains. This was the kind of movie that you reenacted on the playground at school, the kind you acted out with your action figures. I can’t tell you how many times me and my friends would play out the adventure of The Beastmaster! for more go to: ****/p93it6-oQ
What an absolute waste of time. You are better off watching something else. There are only two things good about this movie, Will Smiths acting and Margot Robbie's looks. Everything else is pure drivel.
Wonder Woman Spoiler Free Review:
When Man of steel arrived I was one of the few who liked it. It wasn't the Superman I had expected but I saw it as a film that was showing us how he had become the Superman we all knew and loved. I saw it as a series of lessons from his personal loss to his loss of innocence that would mold him into the man who would fight for Truth and Justice. Sadly I was wrong, and we ended up getting Batman Vs Superman with an even darker Batman than ever. I thought, surely they couldn't get any worse and then there was Suicide Squad. With two solid misses and one half sucess, I was not at all interested in another dive into the fetid pool that is the DC Cinematic Universe. I had come to the view that DC/WB made great trailers and honestly should stick to the short form work. So, when the first Wonder Woman trailer dropped I was like, 'well that's a pretty trailer' and went about my merry way.
Tonight I had an opportunity to see the film at no cost to myself so I figured, ' It would at least be worth the price of admission, right?' Heck, they even paid for drinks and popcorn, what was there to lose?
Lets start From a film making perspective. The first two acts are nearly flawless. Everything from the character development to the pacing is strong and well planned. The third act, while good, has a bit of the Snyder pacing and over use of CG issues that could have been fixed easily with a bit of editing but if you've seen the other films you'll be happy to know this one is considerably toned down. (And, hint hint, this one has a much better climax. No one named Martha involved. ;) )
The story is the origin story (with a twist of course) of who and what Wonder Woman is. Is she a woman? Yes. Is she a warrior? Yes. But who is she, what is her purpose in life? And in that, what is ours?
Wonder Woman is at its core is a story of finding ones place in a world not your own. It's not the 'fish out of water' story but more of a story about determining who you want to be in life. Do you follow the crowd and just watch out for yourself or do you stand up for something?
After seeing this film, I would have not been disappointed had I paid to see it. In fact, I kinda wish I had.
4 out of 5 stars. Good film. Will probably buy.
Crimson Peak is a Gothic Ghost Story that tells the tale of love, loss and betrayal. This film is a Del Toro film through and through, focusing on atmosphere and characters over bravado and cheap thrills. If you are expecting a horror film, you will be disappointed. It is a Gothic Ghost Story more akin to Wuthering Heights than Bram Stokers Dracula. Solid Film, Gorgeous Visuals and excellent cast. 4/5 Worth seeing.
Kurt Cobain A Montage of Heck: An interesting documentary that presents nothing new to those who followed the musicians career closely but makes him look like a life out of control to those who were just passing fans. Showing private footage and personal moments it serves no purpose other than exposing old wounds on the long dead skeletal remains of cultural icon.
Dull, dreary and unfun. Much like the Roger Corman film of the same name, this movie should have never been released. If you want a good Fantastic Four film, rent The Incredibles.
A very fun film that, while connected to the other MCU films, is not beholden to them. It is not a spectacle like Age of Ultron, it's a fun film that introduces us to "new" character that don't need the big guns to make a fun movie.
Avengers Age of Ultron was fun. The pacing was a little rough at first but overall it was a fun film and that is what counts. I wont spoil anything but if you like the other movies, you should go see this one. If you didn't like them, then sit it out.
