An intense immersion in the life of a immigrant in the hospitality of France. There are multiple characters that gravitate around the main protagonist, all managing to be engaging and highly **** Souleymane, Abou Sangare showcases a perfect theatrical performance. The filmmaking also is highly effective, as we discover Paris in Souleymane's eyes, through his constant fight to survive in decence. The rhythm is top notch just as the pace and the gorgeous progression to the calmest finale.Very powerful, very touching and evoking a large palette of emotions with a mondblowing precision. This movie also takes its immense energy in Sangare's actual life, that must be taken in account. A must-see with well-deserved awards.
So who had the decency to qualify this movie as satircal and humoristic? It is a sequel of highly vulgar 'jokes' and turns of events. It just is the same tone of humour again and again and to me it was as much a critic of America as of Kazakhstan, considering how everybody act and react. There is no acting, no fun, no endearing character.I like how the plot moves forward in a way, and makes the scenario somehow varied and a tiny bit interesting.Terrible movie. How could this be a 'must-see' label?? How this could have been nominated for several awards? Just funny for 14-year-old sleepovers.I can't even write more about it.
The movie takes place in a very interesting period of time, with a historical conflict we hear not enough **** scenery and the photography are terrific, with numerous gorgeous and poetic shots of the **** love interest is quite shallow to me : going from nothing at all to suddenly fusion. I often thought that relations were quite confusing in this movie : with emotions showcased in mysterious ways. Deaths are very sudden and don't generate a lot on screen. For instance it goes the same way for the relations between the two sisters : not very close but not distant.Costumes and make-ups are amazing. The music is great however very insisted **** felt too bad that the villain's motivations are as shallow as revenge. Some action scenes are a real mess, especially the ambush one in the fields. There are too many useless dialogues.
What is this? I got it recommended on the internet and gave it a try but now I am... almost speechless. This is obviously a satire, a prank about all the holes in the plots of each and every movies. But this is produced in such a questioning way.Characters are just big stereotypes if they are clearly defined, or serve at all interest in the other way just as Jack Plotnick (the accountant), that desperately tries to get the scenario go **** film has a great start, with a great pace at the beginning but quickly loses all its speed to get closer to 0. Not many things happen in this 'action thriller movie'. Don't get me wron, the original idea was terrific, and there are some inspired twists of events and scenes here and there, but it all lacks in execution... And in storytelling. Too bad it is so unfunny.
Entered it in theatre because we didn't know what to watch with the boyz. It was an amazing surprise for me, and I rewatched it later, as I could easily watch it all over again and again.First, the plot immediately is terrific, as we follow Rita (played by Zoe Saldana) through her tough everyday life. She quickly becomes involved in some twisted events that will change her life. The scenario is perfect, launched with what some may call a basic contemporary plot, but then taking unpredicted turns of events. I absolutely love how the movie offers its last third, based on the integration of the family after a transition. The final scenes are simply memorable, iconic.I can get that such a movie shot in Mexico and not made by people around can cause a huge gap in represeting the culture. It is obviously overly stereotyped but surely don't fail at all when it comes to provide a powerful atmosphere around the **** artistic direction is amazing, the costumes are great, lighting is wonderful. We don't have any difficulty to feel empathy for the several characters. Special mention for Selena Gomez (playing Jessi) for her acting (and obviously singing) skills.Original soundtrack is simply terrific. So many iconic, so catchy, enthralling, so harmonic songs! Voices and rythms are incredible, just as the choregraphies. Songs often happen where we expect it the **** me it is not a 10/10 just because of some few songs and scenes that bring 'Emilia Perez' a bit too close to other laughable indie films. And the song during the reception belongs to these.I really don't get the many polarized opinions about 'Emilia Pérez': if you don't like musicals (as I mainly don't too by the way), just don't make yourself watch this film...
This is the follow-up to the first movie, which changes of tone especially in its last third; and it eventually allows us to breathe. There are less villains but they are a bit more exploited, sometimes filled from what seems to be useless informations. For example, Tai Pei (played by Chia-Hui Liu) certainly is cool but so stereotyped, so devoid of content, so plain that it is hard to understand why he gets so much time on screen. We finally meet Bill and finally get to understand the nature of the bonds he has with the bride. Michael Parks as Esteban Vihaio is just amazing, it is a shame that we don't get more of him during the **** final (no spoil) is very interesting and intense. It perfectly gives a sense to the many twists and turns of the adventure. Here again despite all the good I can write and think about 'Kill Bill', this sequel also is filled with cheesy moments and especially important ones, which diminishes the intensity and tension of the movie. It even pollutes to the last precious scenes, which is a big mistake to **** original soundtrack here is perfect, especially thanks to the exquisite track 'About Her' from Malcolm McLaren. Can't get enough of it.
The first instalment of an amazing journey. This movie sets perfectly the tone for the rest to come, introducing us to the bride, to the distant character of Bill, and to so many other antiheroes. I truly love how we follow the bride's story tied with her steps, through the fights and lows, through her realization of what she experienced.Flashbacks are quite well brought, even if some characters don't show their importance at first glance. I loved how the protagonists' origin stories are interlaced to each others and to the bride's own story. There are few shots that suffer from being very cheesy nowadays, and the amount of violence sometimes disengaged me from the plot **** music is terrific (just as we expect it to be in a Tarantino movie). Some scenes and dialogues are just iconic, overly funny and/or dramatic. The realisation is mind-blowing, highly original and **** is a fast-paced adventure filled with emotions, action and a scenario similar to a child's dream.
Hard to give 'Clash of the Titans' a higher note than 6/10 given how cheesy it is.I'll start with the best: the plot and story are amazing, it is really interesting to see how Perseus fuses into new adventures existing before him. His quests are great and are well-brought to the screen as the film schowcases many mythological creatures, heroes and divinities. Fortunately, the links between characters are interesting, but lacks a bit of depth, notably between Perseus and Andromeda or between Perseus and Ammon. It is a shame that Perseus becomes so easily over-powered in comparison to his opponents.Opponents are one of the flaws of the movie: they are so easily defeated, a single short action scene and they are dead. Add this with the fact that every other scene is soooooo slow! I had to speed them up to 200% just to get into the main battle; nothing happens on screen! This is just **** other major flaw is the quality of special effects. Obviously you have to work with the modern tools but here, it is just too much. I mean the comparisons with 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' that came out the same year are effortless. How can you miss that much? Every inlay scene is a true pain to behold and totally breaks the immersion. Make-ups are barely okay.
Didn't expect this from a Jurassic franchise **** plot is really weird, paved with inconsistencies and nonsense. Roles are overly stereotyped : the millionaire without any human consideration, the almost-retired mercenary, the scientist with a big heart. Any other character that has no identity beyond their role will most likely die during a random battle (and this is a rigid rule, not a spoiler). I enjoyed the introduction and adventure of the family ; they are the most (and only) touching ones in this plain mess. You can feel a certain intimacy and deep bond between them where all the other protagonists are just floating around separately. There is one scene where Zora (Scarlett Johansson) tries to emotionally connect with Duncan (Mahershala Ali) but it all falls flat and miserably fails. Even the first expositions scenes are lazy, even laughable of absurdity. They all engage in a tasteless linear step-by-step adventure where every encounter is subject to become a so-called high-tensioned escape scene. The film is filled of those and fails because of our lack of interest for the characters. There is too much lame suspense and not enough grandiose spectacle to me for such a movie.Dinosaurs are quite well done but ineffective in a way.I have to admit that the final message of the movie remains interesting even if it takes a space too small to be correctly delivered.
A great follow-up to the famous '28 Days Later...' prequel. We found back that devasted London with its thrilling atmosphere. We did lost the gritty texture of the images to something way more lush and polished but somehow more drafty, sketchy and jerky. Action scenes are less understandable than ever. I had to rewind numerous times to get what was happening. Combine that with some really dark passages and it becomes kind of difficult to get what's on.Some shots are just mindblowing especially the shots from above the city.Characters are really lovable, despite some we just don't care about (as Sam, in the last quarter of the movie). Of course America couldn't resist sticking its nose in and getting the 'control’ of the epidemic situation. Following the family is really intersting, as they all face their dramatic fate. Bonus for the open ending, I can't wait to see how the brand new final movie '28 Years Later' uses it!The soundtrack is still on point, contributing powerfully at the whole **** pace is terrific, as it goes crescendo during the first act, the second half of the film is simply a collection of the most chaotic and disorganised scenes of the franchise so far. It is even a bit too easy for the original situation to derail. It is raw, unethic and absolutely brutal. Too bad that, like in the first movie, the army is the one getting things nastier; we've seen it before. A bit too much for me sometimes but I can't deny the tour de force that '28 Weeks Later' is.
Thrilling from A to Z! It is just awesome how these gritty images add to the universe, bring pressure to the audience and contribute to the overall atmosphere all along.Following Jim (embodied by Cillian Murphy, absolutely love his acting) is an immersive and powerful experience, paved with many emotional peaks. In this direction, each and every character is likeable up until the third act. The relations between the protagonists are very **** rest becomes a profound questioning about mankind, altruism and living under **** soundtrack is splendid even if the sound-design could have been a bit **** shots are great but some scenes (especially fight ones) are too drafty, dark and overly-cut to understand what is happening onscreen.
The open ending is amazing, even if I had a hard time to believe you can recover from a bullet in the stomach without a doctor nearby.
200th movie review!I will definitely put aside the numerous complaints about gravity nonsense and human nonexistant **** scenario is quite interesting and rooted in nowadays ethical reflections. There are numerous bridges from this movie to many other amongst the 'Mission Impossible' saga and these are sometimes clever and subtle, sometimes raw and forced. The intro is never-ending, paced with many characters setting limits for the plot to develop. This was not necessary to me because it was all quite clear since the first exposure shots. Too bad the overall plot only revolved only around America's radical **** anyone could expect for any 'Mission Impossible' movies, we find its core recipe : fast-paced action packed with unbelievable technologies and impressive assets. There are many scenes where the tension surely rises crescendo, as the submarine one and the last scenes on planes to only cite these. I however felt like those two lasted way too long, as the pressure at some point can't get any higher. Was a bit of an overkill to **** CGI is on point (fortunately), the music shows some moments of bright clarity. The universe is amazing. Characters are realy cool, excepted Simon Pegg (as Benji) which I found desperately lacking of charisma. It was an interesting surprise to count memorable women protagonists on screen, and with some decent to highly important roles. But please please please don't let actors get in Pom Klementieff's wheel to try to speak french if no one can articulate it correctly. It was so corny.Fight scenes were surprisingly less impressive, and way less effective, as you witness numerous characters emptying their magasines on the floor when in physical **** is it really the final episode?
An interesting sequel to the impressive and captivating first film! Here we follow Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver) who once again finds herself caught up in unexpected and rather unpleasant adventures. I welcome the fact that, as in the first movie, she plays a crucial and active role in the film and its progress: the best thing is to avoid upsetting her... The team she joins, on the other hand, is rather flat, unoriginal and certainly not engaging. There are not enough elements to develop any empathy for **** film starts off too slowly, but quickly becomes interesting as we discover **** music is great, but the lighting is not: too many scenes are in total or near-total darkness, over-cut and therefore very difficult to read. The constant flashes of light were not necessarily necessary. The sound design, especially of the weapons, is **** final scenes (no spoilers) are truly impressive and put the icing on the **** the end it was a cool movie to watch but too long for its content, and suffering from some embarrassing defects as its lighting and pace.
The movie is directly engaging, with a well-paced first part: direct and concrete. The flip switches as the second part takes place, where the film starts to become confused. We lose contact with characters we were entitled to.While the scenes and atmospheres are simply wonderful, the lack of proper acting, especially in the second part, and effective scenes is noticeable. It is only in the last quarter that events turn to become interesting. There are sudden jumps of bright creativity, as the few cuts shots as interviews of soldiers, some clever use of photographies on the battlefield, but that's about all of it...Music choices are great but scattered.Highly engaging but too disjointed to be fully appreciated. It draws meaningful satirric reflexions that it doesn't fully pursue.
An interesting film that manages to keep you on the edge of your seat thanks to its good pace and Brody's excellent acting skills. The historical context is very cool, even if it's been seen before and unfortunately not exploited much in the end. Some of the characters really stand out in terms of depth, contribution to plot and empathy, while others are sadly flat and empty. The second half of the film is rather disappointing, mainly due to a major loss of pace, redundancies and blurred ellipses. Soundtrack worth listening to again! Beautiful photography and exhibition scenes but not enough brutalism in my opinionNo spoilers but the finish is meh
Even after a few days, I'm still struggling to give my opinion of this **** script is really interesting, even if it's not the most original in the vast world of dystopian science **** film tackles a number of fairly fresh and innovative subjects, with many direct links to today's society, which gives it a quite critical and committed tone that I think is **** the other hand, I get the impression that the director has thought far too big for a 2-hour film, some of the subjects/characters/approaches are almost sloppy, rushed and/or badly exploited, but I have to admit that the surprisingly offbeat aspect is rather welcome and breaks the mood of the film in a surprisingly good **** female characters are all one-dimensional, or nearly so, and the film revolves a lot around Pattinson, who gives a huge amount as an actor. But I can't say he shows good acting skills though... I already had a lot of trouble with his modulated voice (which was already the case in 'The Batman (2022)' by the **** music just seemed non-existent, absent from this filmI found the last third, and especially the very end (no spoilers) dragged-on, overly long, and increasingly loud and aggressive (especially **** sure I'll watch it again
*Sighs* Yeah, here we go again, another pale filler for the MCU. I admit that I never had feelings for Captain America but this movie was just boring. Not officially bad to me but just terribly meh.Anthony Mackie as The Captain looks like a second background role. His performance is just okay, just as Harrison Ford, who looks like he needs forever vacation. Carl Lumbly as Isaiah is awesome, interesting acting and definitely the best acting skills of the **** story is cool in the way it deepens a bit the tale of the adamantium among the precarious political balance of the world. However, the movie spends way too much time referencing former characters, and proposing short apparitions of meaningful protagonists such as Buck or Betty (Liv Tyler). The villain is particularly uneffective and lacking in charisma. There are numerous non-sense events, the music is generic, the quality of dialogues is very poor (and the characters make fun of it), the CGI is simply bad (it's almost fascinating how bad it can be). Never watch again.
A journey through contemporary America, paved with strange **** story is very interesting, as we follow multiple characters: some we learn nothing about, others who gradually reveal themselves. Sasha Lane (Star) and Shia LaBeouf (Jake). Some are quite useless during the whole plot, as Riley Keough (Krystal) who only utters threats and nevers acts. Jake and Star form a mysterious dancing duo, opening many questions.Following this band of teenagers is awesome, as seeing them evolve and connect in many ways. Too bad their dumbest decisions never lead to a powerful consequence. It is like they lived in some dream, with no police, no addiction, no violence, no real contact with the rest of the world. So yeah, 'American Honey' floats in something very close to **** soundtrack is simply wonderful, with an astonishing variety of genres, from ballads to trap, from folk to electro. Can't stop listening to the original motion picture soundtarck again and again, while seeing powerful scenes in my **** visuals are amazing too, with pure landscapes and colours, some interesting shots, and often even the impression to be in some found footage, with realy close shots to the **** movie is a bit too long to me and, like every self-respecting independent film, doesn't tell many tales: you just follow teenagers making their moves without any dramatic nor powerful end. It just leaves us deliciously blissful.
Another movie born during the space saga along with 'Interstellar' (2014) or 'The Martian' (2015). 'Ad Astra' (2019) shines by the great actors it showcases, especially Brad Pitt who delivers a bright performance as Roy McBride, the main **** the plot is a bit twisted and unclear, it also suffers from some other subplots that are not enough tackled, as the romance, the living of the family before and after Clifford's departure, the true intentions of SpaceCom against the McBride's, crimes committed in space, and Clifford McBride's final motivations amongst others. It contributes to its lack of consistence and focus. This is compounded by the fact that 'Ad Astra' focuses on unnecessary details, such as Roy's very slow heartbeat.Charlie Kaufman's minor help is sometimes noticeable in the dialogues or during voice-off and it is true **** the other hand, the pace is interesting, as there are several floating moments of wandering and meditation. It is a movie that breathes, and forces us to pay attention to unusual things around the characters. The visuals, especially the lighting and colours are beautiful. The soundtrack is awesome, with some pure peaks. The moments of suspense are terrific.I would have worked on the ending a bit more.
A romance travel through the 'what if' endless universe.'Past Lives' is beautiful in its content, its scenario, its soft soundscape. It is a movie that takes its time, some can blame its inconsistent pace, but you just have to taste those numerous moments of silence. It is a movie where there are more innuendos and plays of looks than spoken **** acting is great, measured, and parsimonious. Some characters don't get enough screen time or depth as I would have let to them, ie Nora's sister, Hae Sung's girlfriend, Nora's husband... On a similar way, I would have preferred to know a bit more about their inner feels and values, because the movie does not leave any room for their personal thoughts and **** photography is marvelous, with some shots that stick to us during the entire movie. Those ones also manage to underline the cities, the environment, and the time slowly passing, and does not only focuses on the two protagonists and their daily lives. This also contributes to remind us the cultural gap that has emerged between these two.(No spoil but) The ending scenes are gorgeous, phenomenal. And the focus stays all along on Nora, and on no other character.
I am quite amazed by the scores given to 'The Beach' **** plot, if not that original, remains interesting and is brought to the table in a great way, respecting a pace that remains terrific almost all along the **** Caprio's acting (as Richard) is brilliant, as he showcases (as he did on several other movies since then) a large palette of varied emotions in various intensities. Ledoyen's performance (as Françoise) is a bit off the top, and some other actors and actresses are not far from being terrible. Canet for example (playing as Étienne), shines during some minor scenes, before his character gets totally wiped off the screen. In a similar way, Swinton (playing Sal) arrives late in the movie and remains way too often stoic, and we can easily find her way to act like she did in the Narnia franchise. Characters are kind of empty shells, as we don't know much about them. And one of the fault of the film is not to give us enough informations about them to really understand who they are. Considering the inner values, Françoise is one of the most inconsistent **** soundtrack is impressive, even if sometimes a bit inadequate and inappropriate. It really reminded me of these late 90's-early 00's vibes. Some shots are really cool, magnificent, especially those of the island. This is an eventful movie but it feels like a fifth only is profoundly thought-out. It gives some to feel but is really stingy in what comes to tink about all this. It often gives the impression of being **** last quarter of the movie (no spoil) condense all the flaws I explained, with random mind-numbing scenes and dialogues. The ending (no spoil again) triggers a lot of questions as it comes to be very disappointing, on the opposite of what the film begins **** me it is not a bad movie, just an empty one shining by the intriguing packaging showcased in its first half.
A space-related blockbuster from Michael **** plot is interesting at first sight but quickly becomes very similar to any movie of the Fast & Furious franchise (without any car of course): a random team get hired to do the dirty so-called impossible job, there is a love story making the progression more difficult and emotional, they are regular humans but with some incredible resistance when the scenario needs them **** intersting cast, the decent CGI, intersting environments and the great score (thanks to Aerosmith) simply couldn't prevent 'Armageddon' to get mediocre. Characters are huge stereotypes, they don't evolve at all excpted the very central ones, their acting is quite bad. The movie has a weird pace, that becomes even worse as the movie eventually comes to its end. Actions scenes are disorganised and confused. There are major plot holes. It's obviously America-centered. Female protagonists are only there for the romance or the striptease shots.Brainless, overly long and desperately trying to get entertaining.
Yeah, it's **** pace of the movie is terrific, and the balance is perfect as it oscillates between fast-paced action and interesting dialogues. The music is as awesome as the urban environment and the costumes. Choregraphies and action shots are very original, even if some effects clearly are outdated (and especially around Sandman). James Franco's acting (New Goblin) is amazing. The integration of New Goblin, Sandman and Venom is **** problem begins when you realize that it's about a movie trying to tell all the tales. The movie is full of events, blinks and characters, but has a bit too much to show for its two hours and a quarter. That lets some spots and holes in the scenario, some few things **** surprisingly is a movie capable of doing some decent humour, action, romance and even horror. More like a 7.5/10.
What did I just witnessed?I was thrilled by 'Shaolin Soccer', also produced and directed by Stephen Chow. But here it is nothing in **** pace is really bad, the story is just awful as events appear randomly, without any decent connection. The humour also is terrible : I must have smiled just twice in the entire film, as the rest is infinitely dumb and mindless. Acting is really poor, charcters almost have zero background or added value, in the notable exception of the hero. They all evolve in a world with no rule. And... I don't know, there is something in the world they are living in that makes it dirty, disgusting, as no character clearly embodies anything positive or particularly beautiful.Fortunately the kung fu scenes and moves and CGI are quite good. And it feels like it is the only great thing about 'Kung Fu Hustle'. The rest is a waste of time. I don't get why it got such reviews, as it got on Rotten Tomatoes too...
An american movie for american people. Eastwood desperately tries to be so badass that is somehow becomes lame at some point. Some lines still remain notable and **** Dirty Harry character opens so many questions, it surely is a success, as there are many ways to interpret his actions and reasons. During this movie I was also looking for clues to help me categorize Dirty Harry, and that is something that kept me on the edge of my seat, thanks to its terrific pace. At least Harry is not that invincible hero kind of **** other thing is that i'm not that interested in polar movies. But 'Dirty Harry' succeeds in its last third : when acts of an officer (being Harry) enters in contradiction with the law. The tension rises until the very end, even if this is by convenient ways (taking children hostage).I enjoyed how San Fransisco was staged and used to make this movie live. We can feel the love in this city all along. Watch rooftops! Can't wait to see the sequel!
Enough feels like enough.I don't get the value of producing another round with a stupid plot, lame acting and silly gags. There is no valuable disruptive element. Bobcat Goldthwait's character was funny and original at first, but eventually became horrible and overwhelming. Other protagonists are just pale caricatures of themselves, not contributing to the development of the plot. Many scenes are just separated gags, and there are so many of them that eventually some manage to be kind of funny but the rest is just straight garbage. In addition to the fact that the beautiful blond must be naked or close to it to be funny and to deserve a place in this crap movie.
After the first boring piece of the trilogy, this one is a success **** photography and VFX are incredible, spaceships are terrific, the battle in the arena is awesome, even if the artistic direction pump a lot from the Middle-East culture : that doesn't always look and sound as a science-fiction movie, because the original soundtrack also is paved with arabic sonorities... Or maybe America thinks it is so far and above everyone else that the other side of the globe becomes another total universe?Chalamet offers a near-perfect performance, with a large palette of emotions, on the opposite of Dave Bautista which is totally ineffective in the whole movie as he delivers one of the most underwhelming acting skills of all. Another letdown to me is Zendaya's character, who doesn't know how to handle the direction of the operations, not knowing which side to invest and to let go. The last quarter of the movie is especially like this : in between "I will follow you" and "I'm not doing this". I hope that the last opus will clarify her position in the whole conflict. This element belongs with other inconveniences such as soldiers fighting with sabers rather than guns? And with the fact that no one moves as a national leader is getting executed in front of his own emperor?I was disappointed by the lack of chemistry between Zendaya and Chalamet, as if they were playing in different **** pace is thrilling, in two hours and forty-five minutes spent in bit more than a minute, going from a immensity and griandiosity to ethereal minimalistic interpersonal exchanges. It is epic at many **** theatre, the experience is simple incredible, and the end left all the audience in a silent awe.Lisan al-Ghaib !
Clearly a must-see in a theatre. Do it if you can, I absolutely recommend it! Just prepare your earplugs because Godzilla's roar is just about as high a decibel level as you can handle.Nothing less than the 37th Godzilla movie to date. But how does it manage to be so refreshing? Produced by Japan in Japan, back to the roots, maybe this is its most victorious recipe, when everybody gets tired and tired (so tired!) of mindless american blockbusters and of unlimited recycling of the **** plot is simply terrific (and it was expected to be so, after 3 years of writing!), with many easter eggs, several possible interpretations and even some impressive subplots that compliment the japanese culture. Because 'Godzilla Minus One' cares about the little ones, and explore their lives in the light of key principles as pride, sacrifice and **** atmosphere is particularly enjoyable as the movie holds us hostage for two hours, which pass in the blink of an eye. The pace is amazing : you get surprised as you were expected to get bored, and get emotionally touched when expected to get some **** soundtrack is great, even if the sound-design is even greater. The photography, lighting and VFX are just terrific, with some few minor letdowns here and there. The actors and their skills are (almost all) top notch.
I first watched this movie when I was about 12 years old. Found this lame as hell, now I just consider it to be dangerously **** songs are cool, if the acting is quite okay, if dance moves are amazing and if the enviromnent is great, the movie miserably fails in many other ways. To begin with the plot which is totally disjointed, and where shallow characters gravitate around two shallower protagonists that have no other intrinsic value than to be young and dumb. Danny (embodied by Travolta) offers a cheesy performance between crazy and hypnotizing while Olivia Newton-John plays as she was nothing else than a plastic Barbie **** see this movie now is a really hard challenge, considering how of a major downgrade it is on the status of both women and men. The only goal of the characters is to attract and have sex with someone of the opposite sex. Men are nothing less than lazy ass-hunters while women are just entitled to make themselves more desirable.'Grease' certainly (and sadly) remains a testimony of the past, but it doesn't make it good however. If you watch it, keep the maximum distance to it as possible.
Another interesting discovery from Hitchcock. 'Rear Window' benefits from a specific and innovative set, an intriguing plot and impressive special **** acting is great, especially from Grace Kelly and James Stewart, the latter almost only with his looks and **** colours are beautiful, the environment is great.Very similar to a theatre play, we follow the story of few characters. Some with importance as Lars Thorwald (played by Raymond Burr), some way less, as the sculptor on the ground floor. It is really pleasant to see all these protagonists evolve around each others for two **** the scenario remains interesting, I must say that the turns of events are not that much. There are some scenes deprived of ingenuity, overly long or simply contributing to make the plot falsely more complex. However I enjoy how the films goes from morality to psychology with the triad LB - Lisa - Stella, each giving his opinion about what is going on and how.
This is the type of movie you get disappointed of after giving it a chance according to these numerous gleaming reviews. But in the end you realize taht it is all of what it **** story is breathtaking, I got into it in the very first scenes and up until the very last ones. 'Vertigo' subtly oscillates between thriller, drama, sci-fi and noir genres amongst others. I had instantaneous empathy for Scottie (played by James Stewart). His acting is top notch, just as Kim Novak's one (as Madeleine). The plot is complicated but without being obscure. Characters are intertwined in the most poetic ways. Obviously the chase scenes may be lame at times. The morale is great.Environments and camera shots are amazing, especially those in the nature, as they are complimented by one of the most appropriate and powerful soundtrack. Bernard Herrmann's music does an incredible job all along, guiding us deep through the intricate and ever-changing emotions of the **** I watched 'Vertigo' in its restored version, the colours were terrific, and add a depth to the context and the scenery. Effects of lights are also to be mentioned.Certainly there are numerous turns of events in the relations of the protagonists that simply are inconceivable these days, the first examples being the major age gap, and the way the man can be seen as a profiteer from the fragility of the woman. And I'm not even referring to this terrible relation quality in the final third of the **** 'Vertigo' may look old and inadequate, it certainly doesn't lack to be full of surprises.
That's a crash. Fortunately not a total **** animations are great, the lore is interesting, the world of colours is gorgeous (a bit too colourful), characters are attractive. Music shows some notable moments here and there. Then what happened? The story is rushed. The ten first minutes are just dreadful as the movie throws numerous facts and characters at our faces just to set the tone. Then it doesn't slow down until the last quarter of the movie.Secondly, if the plot is interesting, the events are just random facts. Nothing is connected, nothing is thought-out, things appear in the most unpredictable way. Jokes are dumb, from the painful wordplay to the silliest falls.Sometimes the movie realizes it has strong messages to address but it is so dreadfully done...Some other moments of authenticity save 'Elementals' from being simply garbage but you will have to do a hell of a sorting task to find these.
Miyazaki's last movie. I feel obliged to quote his name, as almost all the above reviews apparently must also have been. It is a common clue that this person's work is being overrated.I was pleased by many other movies made by him, but this one has a particular taste. Its beginning is truly wonderful, paved with the marvelous ingredients that make a great Studio Ghibli movie : long moments of silence, a sober presentation of the characters, a dark historical context, engaging protagonists, poetic music, etc. Animations are great, but lacking some serious details in my opinion (especially in faces and characters in overall). Colours are magnificent, some scenes (as the ones in the fire) are awesome and **** when the fairy starts poetry fades. This heron make some terrible entrances, being threatening and then totally ridiculous. He follows Mahito on many of his adventures, without once being interesting or touching.Concerning Mahito's adventures, they are as Chiiro's ones but only stupider, less emotional, and even more confusing.Because this is what I keep from 'The Boy and the Heron' : the sad and disturbing impression of having had a horrible, confusing and unpleasant nightmare, impossible to understand, paved with many symbols and links to make, but that are out of my **** way these films blur the lines between good and evil remains unchanged. But the far too complex and unexplained lore surrounded by a superficial screenplay results in an ending that we lose complete interest in. If characters can et any actiosn and still get benefit from it the whole point of seeing a movie seems mindless. The ending is especially hard to believe. What I felt during this film was all I could get from it, and no feeling could give a sense of what I was witnessing.
The style and atmosphere of 'Shaun of the Dead' were new to me. The way the movie manages to marry romance, comedy and zombies is amazing as it allows plenty plots and **** pace is great, the humour too (failed jokes offset by other hilarious and subtle jokes). Of course the scenario is not that interesting or catchy but the entertainment was on time. Unfortunately, some of the bad jokes and the ridiculous scenario did get me off the hook. Some dialogue are truly poor here and there and characters often are one-dimensioned.
Another movie that is infected by the value of my childhood. And not only mine, also those of many who gave this a review. I also had it on VHS back then. But it was a lot funnier.I saw 'Peter Pan' again last week and my adult look on this is not that funny anymore. If the morale is interesting in a sense but feels like encouraging grown-ups to be moody and loony. I enjoy how 'Peter Pan' questions our relation to rules and society. But how far? The end is a bit disappointing as a lot seems to be lacking compared to the whole lore. Fortunately there a lot of other Peter Pan movies to embellish this universe, 'Hook' being on top of **** scenario appear to be relly poor in the end. Like a series of side-quests and partially related events. Characters are quite intersting, especially Captain Hook and Mr Smee while Peter Pan looks like a selfish one-dimensioned protagonist.Soundtrack is great, with a lot of entertaining, catchy tunes.
This feature unfortunately joins the trending long sequel of too-long movies. It certainly is not as long as the last Scorsese one, but also could have fit in a maximum of two hours.'Napoleon' begins on a series of confusing faxt-cut scenes that tries to depict the context. Its main purpose is especially to introduce us to the main characters. From the beginning the colours are bad, making the green really flashy while all other colours seem drab (as blue, white & red definitely should have been more **** scenario was interesting, at least up to the Berezina battle. But this is where we have to realize this movie is not far from science fiction. I guess that Americans, just like French people back then, are inclined to deify a character whose whims are tantamount to a strong personnality. Battles are entertaining and induce some intensity but somehow manage to be heartless and quite **** pace is just bad, as the movie oscillates between moments of time and locations without any rhythm. The ending (no spoilers) is really mind-numbing and at odds with the atmosphere of the whole film.Actors (Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby to only cite them) are great and display interesting skills. Certainly not the best of their careers but still enjoyable. The figuration, costumes and environments are terrific while the soundtrack is quite discrete all along.
Here is Stanley Kubrick coming with this way-too-little-known underrated long feature. It reminds me of 'Boyhood' but with a grown man during Georgian era. This movie is a pure tribute to history and William Makepeace Thackeray's eponymous novel. This 185 minute-long movie showcases subtle acting skills from Ryan O'Neal (especially) and his fellow actors and actresses. Marisa Berenson (as Lady Lyndon) also makes a great deal of the film. Its length manages to expose many intertwined characters and so to create a dense atmosphere. 'Barry Lyndon' sacrifices a decent pace just to pin down spectacular outdoor evironments (which are particularly there during the second act) characterized by ethereal colours and an outstanding lighting, looking like perfect paintings. Some scenes are very slow and doesn't add anything to the whole content. I would rather see some of the plot holes filled than these many empty scenes. The narrator also spoils some major turns of events, which is a shame. The dialogues are beautiful and inspired.Music also occupies a major place in the artwork. It perfectly fits the atmosphere even if being also redundant at times (as the main theme often goes on and on).Ultimately, this is a poetic and moving film, focusing on the psychology of characters governed by 18th-century society. Worthy of a Dostoyevsky novel.
What a lame movie with surprisingly many **** shots are truly meticulous, gorgeous at times. Lithing is excellent. The pace is great especially at the beginning. The acting is great, characters are (mostly) attractive, the soundscape and soundtrack is just terrific. The scenario and the essential concept is top **** wow. This is so slow. Many scenes are overly long and not necessary. The plot moves on as slowly as the Beast. Characters take many really dumb choices, making 'It Follows' really hard to follow (sic). The fact that they were so often pathetic got me out of the movie. Hugh appears as one of the most intelligent and effective of them **** ending is really unrewarding. And allowed my friends and my to debate for a whole hour about how the movie could have been way more fun and intricate rather than this linear-ish plot. This could have been way more frenetic, with many more characters, a true run against time in the dimension of romantic relations between people. But no. Too bad.Feels like a 80's cheesy spooky movie.
I was thrilled by the first movie of the opus 'The Evil Dead', but I have to admit that this second feature didn't match it. The pace of it seems less thought out. The acting is as lame as in the first movie, with desperate attemps to scare us with Bruce Campbell's (Ashley) overacting fear. I felt way less concerned about the characters (excepted for Ashely). The special effects obviously remain outdated but don't change a thing in this review. We are used to overly simple plots and clear opponents. Here with Ashley between good and evil, it brings an unknown depth to the scenario. But to me where the movie clearly disappoints me is everywhere it falls in the lamest attempts to do comedy. The tension suddenly crashes, remainng nothing else than the feeling of being a dumb spectator to be entertained, as if 'Evil Dead II' didn't believe in its own ability to scare us. It desperately tries to make us **** ending (no spoil) is quite original and fun. And this ending is the start of a funny Android game called 'AoD Army of Darkness' that I played years before, without understanding all the winks to the original work.
This movie is like a true novel : subplots, distorted timeline, complex narrative choices, numerous meaningful characters. But it adds marvelous iconic shots, great acting, a near-perfect soundtrack. A movie that tackles as many subjects as many actors it counts. Only the pace is sometimes questionning as the plot seems to move slowly to unexpected events, as dialogues and long moments of silence did let me puzzled, often waiting for something bigger to happen or to come out. Tarantino's apparition is his own movie is a bit cheesy and senseless too. Characters are great, and some women did occupy consistent roles, at least three of them as Mia Wallace, Yolanda/Honey Bunny or Maria De Medeiros. I have to underlin the pleasant fact that they are not that sexualized. Too bad that drug use is so glorified though. And in the end, the famous and mysterious briefcase remains hell of a detail in such an ocean of informations and lines.
