Can't say much because it barely functions on Switch 2 at the moment. Could be a decent farming sim someday I guess, but unsure whether the devs have the skillset to actually fix it.

Whoever designed this game didn't play their own game. No diagonal strike? Hollow long jump into parasol hover just doesn't register your inputs half the time? Mina's hitbox is the size of Europe but hitting an enemy needs to be pixel perfect? Fall damage stacks with enemy damage if you get knocked off after being hit and are already in invincibility frames? This took six years?

Can't say much about the game other than it's hard frozen on me twice within the first hour of gameplay. How Bethesda's able to endlessly get away with this kind of **** by saying their "games are complex" is so whack. Uninstalled.

I don't have any nostalgia for the first game so can't say much about any retconning they're trying to do here. But, this game is not good on a technical level at all. Whatever's going on with the shadows and the colors looks like what happens when an IRL streamer's signal drops to like 100kb/s. It's really jarring and popped up in literally the first scene. I'm really confused how that got past any kind of QA. NPCs go into weird glitch fits, etc. On the story side, since I think that's the core focus of these games, I have the same problem here that I had with the first game: it feels overly verbose and overly emotive in places where just letting the characters breathe would be way more impactful. Not even an hour into the game and I found myself asking "can I just play the actual game" multiple times. If you're on the fence, try it on Steam so you can maybe get a refund.

Combat is terrible and the whole game feels clunky. Nomura making the game go even more "full anime" storyline doesn't help either. The open-world Assassin's Creed quests are so out of place in a FF game. I can't believe I'd prefer to have mindless sidequests, but it beats having to deal with all the dumb Chadley crap. It's padded to death and the changes to the story are stupid. Tifa still rules, though.

It's not that great, at least on Switch. The controls are kinda awful on Switch and it leads to a lot of annoying deaths. That wouldn't be as bad if certain routes through the game didn't put you far away from save points a lot of the time. It makes going back to your death spot super annoying. I don't know why, but Ubisoft can't ever seem to program parries to make logical sense, neither in their mechanics nor in how enemies will telegraph attacks. Also, I'm not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me, but it's like there's no invincibility frames after you take a hit from enemies? So, you can get chain merked into some BS death like it's Ninja Gaiden 2 birds. Again, it's fine if a difficult game is just "skill issue" stuff, but it's not fine when you get cheesed repeatedly and have to spend 10 minutes running back to that spot to try again. Anyway, it's alright as a $10-$15 game. At full price it's a crime.
