The graphics, sound, and general retro atmosphere of this game are all really nice. This game is basically a reskin of Sunset Riders, which is mostly a good thing. However certain parts of the game like the motorbike stages and some of the boss fights are not well executed at all. They feel grindy and are a chore to complete, which is a shame, because the standard levels in this game are mostly very enjoyable.

This is an enjoyable and addictive puzzle game that follows on logically from Down & Right. The runs are just the right length (less than an hour), there are lots of opportunities to experiment with item combos, and sometimes you might discover broken combo loops to exploit, which is really satisfying. There are lots of 'blessings' and 'artifacts' with interesting abilities, and the developers have done a really good job balancing the strength of the characters, monsters and items. 95% of the strategy in this game is in the dice fights rather than in navigating the 3X3 dungeon levels. I really love the atmosphere created by the excellent hand-drawn graphics and the gentle background music. All 6 playable characters have 5 dungeons to defeat, so there is plenty here to keep you going for a long time. I highly recommend this game if you are a fan of turn based strategy games.

This is such an awesome update! The 2 new characters are fun to play, and both feel noticeably different to the other 7 characters. The survival mode has been really carefully designed and feels well-balanced. A complete run in this mode only takes around half an hour, which is the perfect play time for games in this genre. There is also lots of replay value as you permanently level up your characters each run to unlock new perks. I've been playing now for about 15 hours since this DLC released and I will keep coming back for more cheap thrills for as long as their are others around to play online with. Highly recommended!

Oaken is a nice turn-based strategy game. It has lovely graphics, atmospheric music, a nice aesthetic and interesting mechanics. There are lots of different units, buffs, enhancements and trinkets to experiment with, and an a lot of thought and effort has been spent trying to create some variety in the battles you fight in. Unfortunately, there are two big problems with this game that have caused me to move on after only 3 complete runs: 1. Each run takes about 5 hours to complete, which I found to be way too long. I ended up completing a chapter at a time and splitting my run into 3 separate gaming sessions. 2. Whilst there are a large number of units, trinkets, and upgrades to experiment with, everything is so well balanced that it really doesn't matter much how you choose to set up your army. Most of the strategy is in how you move and attack with your units on the board, and this diminishes the strategy associated with building your deck and customizing your units. This is a real shame. I really enjoyed my first two playthroughs of Oaken as I learned all the novel quirks of the game. Unfortunately I found my third playthrough a bit tedious (even though I was using a newly unlocked character). Your experience with Oaken might be better than mine. The game is quite different to other turn-based strategy games I have played and is still worth a try if you enjoy this genre.

What an amazing game! So simple to play, but experimenting with different units, items and strategies makes a playthrough of this a really enjoyable and engrossing experience. I enjoyed the story and I really appreciate some of the 'unique' challenges implemented in some of the battles to switch things up a bit. Levelling up in this game is always satisfying, as is unlocking and playing with new characters and new battle units. It took me 34 hours to finish the campaign and I loved every minute of it! You must give this a try if you like turn based strategy games!

I have really enjoyed my first 10 hours playing Everspace. There is a genuine sense of wonder as you explore each procedurally generated sector, harvesting materials, crafting items and collecting credits to spend on permanent enhancements ahead of your next run. I enjoyed the fact that you just 'jump in' and learn as you go - it is all pretty intuitive and a run only last about half an hour, which gives you lots of freedom to experiment with crafting, trading and using new items. There are also some interesting story threads and 'quests' to work through in later runs. I'm not sure if I'll finish this game or not, but I only spent $15 on it, and so far that is money very well spent!

This is an excellent package! All 4 games stand up well even today, especially when you apply the CRT filter. Of course these games are difficult, but there is a 'rewind' feature included, and cheat codes are provided for each game to allow anyone to finish them comfortably. It is really interesting to see the progression / improvements / refinements implemented in each new iteration of Turrican when you play them in chronological order. In all 4 games the level design is expansive, the pixel graphics are amazing and the music is fantastic. I played all 4 of these Turrican games as a kid, and I have really enjoyed the opportunity to replay them now with the added new features included in this package. Turrican is right up there with the Contra and Metal Slug franchises when it comes to premium 2D run and gun games.

I have had a lot of fun playing this game. As advertised, it genuinely looks and feels like a 90's shooter that would have been a huge hit had it been released on the Genesis or Amiga 500. The levels have all been thoughtfully designed - they are large, action-packed, and chocked full of secrets - similar to the level designs of the Turrican games. Using the right thumbstick to aim and shoot your gun also works really well. The graphics are authentic and the music does an excellent job at reinforcing the retro vibe. Ultrcore does have some flaws - there are some fiddly platforming sections, levels 1-4 all look pretty similar, and the final level (5) is much more difficult than the first 4. Most of this doesn't really matter if you are prepared to use the cheat code. You can use it as often as you like to reset your lives to 30, which means anyone can comfortably beat the game. I'm sure I will return to Ultracore several times over the next few years. I picked it up on sale for only $3 and I am really pleased I did!

This is a fun and well-crafted game. It plays smoothly, has nice graphics, cut scenes and sound, and it is pretty accessible to players of all skill-levels. There are only 5 levels, so you can beat it in half an hour, but there is lots of replay value because every level and challenge you complete earns you points which you use to upgrade and customize the very wide and impressive range of power ups available. You have 2 powerful secondary weapons which are quite easy to recharge, which means you use them regularly to satisfying effect! I picked this game up for $11, and I feel at this price Hyper-5 is a bargain! On the first playthrough it can be confusing to tell if some objects are in the foreground or not, but if it had just a few more levels it would be up there just below the top-tier shoot-em-ups. As it stands, it is certainly a game to consider if you are a fan of this genre.

The gyro controls on a pro-controller actually work really well when playing this game. You do have to manually re-center your gun sight quite regularly with the left thumbstick between zombie encounters, but using the gyro controls is a fun and effective way to play. I played through this game 12 times within my first 2 days of purchase. It is so much fun exploring all the branching paths through levels 1-3, and once you are able to unlock the cheat modes the game becomes even more appealing! Hoard mode is so much fun once you have unlocked the Armory, and the 'one shot kill' cheat makes the end of level boss encounters far less time consuming. This game is well worth picking up at 50% or 65% off on sale. It is also a game you are likely to come back to over and over again because it is so easy to 'pick up and play'.

This is a fun, well-made game that is perfect for playing in short bursts. I like the way you can use your special weapon regularly, and the slow-down mechanic is very helpful when used strategically. Control is nice and smooth, and it feels really satisfying to chain score multipliers together. Unfortunately, there aren't that many 'levels' or game modes, and it starts to feel quite repetitive after a short period of time. The power-up system is very basic, and there is only one weapon system available, which is a shame. I enjoy playing Game Type DX, but it only has limited (short-term) appeal.

This is essentially Plants vs Zombies with dogs! The devs have done a really admirable job rehashing the classic Plants vs Zombies genre here with the added bonus that your character is actively involved in all the battles! They have included other cool features too like maps and cut screens ahead of each battle to try to flesh out a bit of a story to accompany the action. I really enjoyed playing this game, but there are just a few things to be aware of: 1. The load times between transitions seem un-necessarily long 2. The difficulty seemed to really spike about two thirds of the way in 3. It can be difficult to keep track of the position of your character when the action really heats up. Despite these issues, this is definitely worth a play though if you are into tower defense games.

This is a really fun and addictive puzzle game! I was initially skeptical about how much strategy there could be in a game where you can literally only choose to move right or down each turn. Well, the good news is the developers have taken a very simple concept and fleshed it out into an absolute masterpiece! There are at least 4 important additional 'mechanics' in this game that all enhance the strategic content of this game: 1. Building 'combos' into the path of your character is very important to trigger their unique abilities 2. Choosing the most useful items to buy for your character (and avoiding the duds that waste your gold) is also crucial for success 3. Selecting which 'zone' to travel to next after every 5 levels is also very important and you need to carefully consider the current load-out of your character when making this decision 4. Every 10 levels there is a campfire stage where you must carefully decide how to spend the experience points you have recently accumulated Every time you finish a complete run of 50 dungeons the game conditions change slightly in interesting ways that further improve the experience and make you want to jump back in to finish the game again! You also permanently unlock useful items that become available to buy in future runs. The gameplay itself is similar to the excellent 'Super Battle Cards' game, but the need to accumulate items and abilities for your character that synergize with your other items is sort of similar to the 'deck building' mechanics found in games like Slay the Spire. Playing Right and Down really is an original and unique experience! If you think you might like this game, I strongly encourage you to give it a try! I only managed to unlock 45 of the 80 tracks, and given my global rank places me in the top 1% of players (based on progress), it seems as though most players also give up long before they have completed all the challenges on offer. Each one is memorable with their own distinct weapon and fighting style. The game also plays very differently to most one-on-one fighting games, requiring patience, timing and good strategy. It is also very challenging (even on difficulty level 1 of 8). My advice is to set the timer to fast, get a few early hits in and then try to dodge your opponents attacks for the second half of each round to score health victories rather than chasing KOs. On my first playthrough the game actually glitched out and forced a 'Neo Geo reboot' because the action was too intense! This is a fun shoot-em-up with nice graphics, varied level designs and strange (highly atmospheric) music. The HD version of the game looks great, but it is excellent that they have also included so many other versions of the game for you to try out and play around with. I wanted to give this game 8/10 but I've settled on a 7 for a few reasons: 1. At full price, this game is not good value for money for the time you are likely to spend playing it. 2. Whilst there is definitely some good replay value due to the 'branching paths' system of selecting the next level, after 5 play throughs you will probably feel that things are starting to get a bit repetitive. Be warned: This game is hard (even on 'super easy') but there are trainer and free play modes so that anyone can complete it regardless of skill level. They have done a really good job with the menu system to allow you to customize your play experience to your needs. Overall this is well worth picking up if you are a fan of the genre. Fans of the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise will find a lot to like here. The game feels like a logical extension of the older retro games. The graphics look nice, the music and sound effects are suitable, it plays well, and it has the all-important 'feel' of the original games. There are a number of things you should be aware of before you buy though: 1. This game is really hard on every setting except the easiest! Anyone can comfortably complete the game on this setting, but I'm not sure I have the patience to be bothered trying to finish it on any other difficulty level. 2. This game does borrow heavily on previous G&G IP and assets. This is creates lots of positive nostalgia, but it would have been nice to see a bit more new original content introduced through this title. 3. I have now finished the game twice (on easy) and I've spent a few hours trying to complete levels on the harder difficulty levels. The boss battles become frustrating after the 20th failed attempt, and so honesty I'll probably only give this one more playthrough (on easy) before moving on to my next game. 4. In my opinion this game is very overpriced for what it is. I bought this on sale for half price, and that seems about right for the play I will get out of this.

I love Snow Bros! I have played dozens of hours of this game (both the arcade and Mega drive versions). For fans of the game, this is a worthy update. The visuals are nice, the presentation is smooth, and it plays really well. The monster challenge DLC adds lots of replay value to the game and the 30 extra levels provided in arcade mode are a nice extension to the traditional 50 level campaign. There are a couple of difficulty spikes - the bosses on levels 70 and 80 are REALLY challenging in single player mode, but you can just 'cheat' past them if they get too frustrating by tagging in and out with the 2nd player if you have a second controller (just keep on tagging in with the other player when you get down to your last life). The only real negative thing I can say about the game is it's price, but I just picked up the game and the DLC for $15AUD at 60% off, and at this price Snow Bros Special is pretty good value.

This package is just OK. Some of the games are entertaining for a playthrough, and the rewind feature is very much appreciated. The presentation is excellent, and I like the way they have implemented the aiming (with the right thumb stick) in all the twin stick shooting games. It is really disappointing that there are no Samurai Shodown games and no Metal Slug games in this package. It is also very disappointing that Beast Busters is basically unplayable because the aiming target is ridiculously sensitive and there is no option to change this. I bought this on sale for half price ($30AUD) and feel a some buyer regret. I think the Capcom Arcade Stadiums are much better value because many more of those games are still worth playing today. As a big fan of retro games, I do feel an opportunity was missed with this release.

This is a fun game! Strange and interesting character design, nice graphics and cut scenes, quite a range of customisation options for your ship... Most importantly it plays well and it is satisfying taking down bosses. It is very short (8 levels) but there is a fair bit of replay value in trying out different ships and weapon combos. I paid $1.50 for this on sale and I feel like this is a bargain at this price.

I am really enjoying this game! It is certainly not perfect - there are some minor grammatical errors in some of the text and I dislike the graphical style used in some parts of the game, but there are lots of positives I want to share with you. - It plays very smoothly. The transitions are fast and the combat animation is nice. - The system of dice combat here is novel and actually works very well. - In story mode (where you play as a single character) a run takes just under an hour which is the perfect length in my opinion. - There are 10 playable characters! I have unlocked the first 5 so far and all seem to play differently enough to make them distinguishable. - If you die you do have the option to retry. This is very useful if you feel you were defeated by bad luck, but it will not help much if you have made poor character building decisions in your run. Overall, If you love games like Slay the Spire, Roguebook and Monster Train, then this is well worth a look. It borrows many familiar elements from these games but is also refreshingly different.

This is a fun and well-made game. The presentation in both sound and visuals is excellent. It plays well, feels 'right', and is highly enjoyable for the first few hours. But then once you have finished the 30 levels in story mode and played a few 'randomised' games, there isn't much more to do. At it's core, this is a very simple game. The devs have done a great job embellishing what is here, but it is a short ride. If you like the trailer I recommend you give this a try - I certainly enjoyed my brief time with this game.

I agree with most of the negative observations other users have highlighted. Load times can be long and there are strange pauses between inputting actions and effects resolving. These things are definitely annoying, but the graphics are lovely, the game design is amazing, and I have now spent a very enjoyable 50 hours playing Roguebook on Switch. The performance issues are disappointing, but there is still lots of fun to be had here if you like deckbuilding games. Edit: I just bought the Fugoro DLC for $15 and have played another 8 runs with this new character. Fugoro is really cool and plays quite differently to the other 4 characters. My total playtime is now 80 hours (30 runs) and this is now one of my all time favourite games! I think they have also patched some of the input lag issues recently so it plays better now too.

This is a really fun game! It plays really well and flows very smoothly. It is satisfying taking out baddies whilst weaving through heavy traffic. You continuously upgrade your car using the credits you earn, so this provides the incentive to keep playing. The music is also really good! The biggest problem with this game is the lack of variety in gameplay. This is a serious drawback which will limit the hours of fun you get out of this. I paid $10 for this game which seems about right. After 5 to 6 hours play I have completed most of the missions.

This game is solid, but it is a pretty shallow experience overall and it probably will not hold your attention for very long. The characters all feel very similar to play. The voice acting is all in Japanese. The DLC is incredibly expensive too - $7.50 per character is outrageous!

I had lots of fun with this game until a bit after halfway thorough when it started to get repetitive and I started getting bored. The graphics, music, atmosphere and presentation of Jars are all top notch. The story is engaging and the animated cut scenes are really cool. There is a lot to like about this game, but it does have its problems: 1. Much of the 'puzzle' aspect is really just trial and error (and sometimes luck). 2. The random placement of items in the jars make some level runs much more difficult than others. 3. The controls in docked mode are pretty clunky and make some levels harder than they should be. Despite these drawbacks, there will be many players out there who are motivated to play this through to the end. There are lots of levels to complete, and a range of unlockable items to acquire. It is certainly worth a look if you enjoy tower defence games (especially when it is on special).

I really wanted to like this game but sadly I've given up on it after only a couple of hours of play. The game looks pretty good and is quite atmospheric, but here are the problems that have caused me to quit: 1. This is quite a complex game and nothing is really explained properly. You just have to stumble along and work things out for yourself as you go. 2. The cards are all pretty generic looking and many seem unnecessarily complicated. You spend a lot of time just reading different cards that all seem to do pretty much the same thing. 3. Each character can only play ONE card per turn which seems pretty limiting and reduces the card playing potential for 'strategy' while in combat. 4. Exploring the derelicts via a boring 2D map is not as exciting as it should be. 5. The game seemed to glitch on me a number of times. Twice I entered a battle and the menu screen didn't disappear so I couldn't see what was going on, and twice I just suddenly died and I still don't know why. I you LOVE this genre then maybe you could persist more than I did and enjoy your experience, but I have decided I can't be bothered investing anymore of my time into this game.

This is a really clever game. Obviously it is a 'puzzle game', but in 'quick' mode the time pressure on you to make intelligent decisions turns it into more of an 'action' puzzle game. The concepts here are all pretty simple but they are also very well thought out. I agree with the other user who complained that there are only modes to play - more modes would definitely have improved the longevity of the play experience. However, if you persist with this game for longer than 5 minutes you will find a very addictive and satisfying little game. It will have you coming back for 'just one more run' to see if you can beat one of your 9 high scores (3 modes X 3 sized game boards). I have been playing now for over 5 hours - not bad for a game that only cost me $1.80.
