Slipstream may not be perfect, but it was clearly made with a specific vision and a ton of love. There are plenty of other options out there for sure, but if you're really into drifting and retro racers, you may get better mileage here than most. [Issue #60 – July/August 2022, p. 24]

While simple at first, Slipstream's gameplay becomes more complex and addictive as the game goes on, and the variety of game modes and effects, as well as its marvelous visual environment make this game a fabulous choice for those seeking some retro-inspired driving fun, which could have been even better if it featured an online multiplayer experience.

The action is fast, the controls are responsive, and there’s a huge amount of content to get through – especially considering the reasonable price-point. If you’ve already exhausted the Switch’s premium retro racers then Slipstream is well worth a runaround.

Visually the game is amazing, gives a really nice vibe in combination with the music. On the other hand the gameplay is pretty bad. Controlling the vehicles is somehow pretty sloppy and weird at times. Each time you start a new race there is a huge chance an NPC will hit you from the back. The maps are very beautiful, but at some places for example a left turn immediately turns into right, which would usually be an opportunity for a nice drift transition, but in this game's case it is an opportunity to crash if you have not positioned your car well in the first turn, which either would happen by pure chance, or because you know the specific turn. Would not recommend the game, total waste of money.

Slipstream is a Brazilian one-man masterpiece of a retro racing game that pays an honorable homage to the classical games of the genre. Despite its apparent simplicity, the game has a lot of variety that will keep you entertained for hours and hours and hours.

Slipstream's retro arcade proposal knows very well its roots, who it's aimed for and where it wants to take the original formula, adding just the new elements and changes needed for not being a simple OutRun clone. If you loved Sega's classic runner, you've a high chance of falling in love with it.

Love the soundtrack and concept. Hoping for more updates, a sequel perhaps?. For 9.99 it worth it if you enjoy retro.

Slipstream is a nice homage to the Out Run series: almost perfect to play in portability on Nintendo Switch, wearing a pair of headphones to fully enjoy its captivating soundtrack.

Slipstream has a lot to offer fans of SEGA’s old Super Scaler arcade games. It’s not shy about its source of inspiration, but it is dutiful in doing justice to that game. There are a variety of modes to play and sights to see. You can even play with friends in local multiplayer. Just be aware that the game plays like something from the time and place it pays homage to, so you very much have to take it on its own terms mechanically. Perhaps the biggest problem is that it never really manages to escape being one big reference and become its own thing. Even with that in mind, arcade racing fans likely won’t regret picking it up.

There’s no doubt Slipstream has issues, but the core gameplay mechanics are fun enough that you may be able to look past them as I could and enjoy some knockoff Out Run.

It’s taken ansdor four years to develop Slipstream to this point, and they should be proud of their achievement in and of itself, regardless of the competition or the words and score on this page. If you’re reading this now, congratulations, and I hope this is a sign of more to come.

"Slipstream is basically the new Outrun game that you never knew you wanted. With its 80s visuals and soundtrack and a myriad of game modes, there’s plenty here to keep all skill levels busy. The cheap price is the icing on the cake to what is already an excellent racing game." ****/2022/04/25/slipstream/

This is a very well-made game that is fun to play in short bursts. The range of game modes on offer is pretty impressive, although the menus to navigate through all this a a bit dull. I've given this a 7 instead of an 8 because I moved on from this game pretty quickly and I'm not sure if I'll come back to it. Slipstream is certainly worth picking up on sale if you enjoy arcade-style racers.

A hit and miss, bit mostly a miss. It leverages mechanics from great titles but badly executed.
SummaryIt's 199X, you're in the driver seat. As you turn the key and hear the engine starting, a cassette plays on the stereo. The clear blue sky invites you to escape, to explore a world of exotic landscapes and thrilling races.
