This game is very beautiful, great pixel art, solid soundtrack, and wears it's inspirations on it's sleeve. It's lofty ambitions to pay homage to some of the greatest stories and games of the past sadly come up extremely short and shallow. Where the art and score certainly pass as commendable homage to the greats there is little else of quality here. From an extremely lackluster story to some of the most poorly written characters in a JRPG I've ever experienced, I couldn't muster more than an hour per session at times as I was just so SO bored. As someone who comes to these games for stories and characters I was left extremely disappointed. I would have given so much slack to this game too because I think it's so cool and awesome that devs are making games like this again but I just can't get past how poorly written it is. The combat would be the saving grace in a game like this but even that ends up extremely shallow pretty quick into the game. While at first it's rather enjoyable you quickly realize it never EVER changes. You have the same skills, the same inputs, the same exact routine for the entire game. I love that devs are making games like this again, I love the art, I enjoy the soundtrack, but this game comes up extremely short in all the things that made those of it's inspiration so special. Don't let the critic reviews lead you astray this game is not close to being a masterpiece in any sense of the word. If you put this up to any other JRPG of substance it will fall to pieces. I can't in good faith recommend this game unless you have played every other JRPG out there and just want something else.

I just don't get this game. For all the complaining with Assassin's Creed this is not far off modern AC games. Crested 100 hours and finished the nothing burger of a story and I'm just left extremely underwhelmed. This game has so much going for it, great visuals, a massive world, great music, and plenty of collectibles to find. But the controls of this game despite all the updates just feels so egregiously bad. I hate moving Kliff, if I see something in the distance I dread having to go explore just because it means I have to navigate this robot. This is an insanely cool tech demo with tons of ideas that could really make for a great game but as it is this game is just boring.
