Drova - Forsaken Kin4

This game had such good reviews that I decided to play it without a second thought! I was surprised to find that it just didn't click with me. It's not a terrible game by any means but it was lacking a lot of things that I have come to appreciate in a game these days. I despise backtracking, needless walking around through the same areas and this game does not have a fast travel and the map really (really) **** which makes navigating the world a pain. There is no guide point system showing you the direction of a quest even so you're forced to speak with EVERY NPC in hopes that you stumble upon a solution or your next objective. It's also a challenging game. You will be killed and hopefully learn to stay away from certain beasts after you die. They mix in powerful foes with super easy foes which fools you. I lost interest after about 12 hours.

Just because a game looks good doesn't make it good and this is a prime example. The gacha system is steep in this one! They are generous for the first few hours of play time and then good luck after that. It'll take you 3 months to save up enough dice for a guaranteed pull and most people won't stomach this game long enough to get their first pity.
The quests are the worst I've played in a long long time! The storyline isn't just incredibly dumb, it also managed to be annoying and soooooooo drawn out with filler content that's meant to just keep you playing longer. They want you to feel like there's a ton of storyline but when the story is about tomato ghosts that haunt vending machines or a cake monster anomaly that turns sweet cakes bitter. Who... CARES!? It's so dumb and feels utterly pointless.
Taygedo is a main character that you cannot escape. He is top tier annoying as you'll find out quickly. I've avoided questlines that mention his name in the description.
I gave this game a chance but it's bad. Really bad. I know it's free but just pay for a worthwhile experience elsewhere. Your time is something you should value too.

The game does look gorgeous thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and I'd say this is a new evolution for open world gacha games. Driving around a detailed city is fun.
My issue remains the over-the-top silly nature of the story and characters. Taygedo is especially annoying. His dialogue got old after the first 30 seconds.
The menu system is an absolute mess.
If someone could just make a game without 40 cat characters, all of the sillyness and actually made us care about the characters... I've been playing gacha games for a long time now and nothing has drawn me in yet story-wise and character developement wise. It may just not be possible with the gacha formula where you want people invested but not TOO invested enough to be satisfied with the free-to-play experience alone.
I really wanted to like this one but the character interactions really bring it down. You CAN make an anime game that doesn't rely on high pitched squeals from little cat girls... make me care by giving us some relatable content.

Life is Strange: Reunion8
Apr 18, 2026
By the end of Double Exposure: I was really tired of those maps. Main 2 University buildings, The Turtle, campus grounds. The last thing I wanted was a whole new game that kept you in those SAME MAPS again! If I'd have known that they were using the same maps and very few new locations for Reunion, I likely wouldn't have even attempted playing the game. But I'm glad that I did because the story in this one combined with the dynamic between Chloe and Max was actually enough to elevate the series despite me constantly wishing I was anywhere but Caledon University all over again. It's personal opinion but my #2 gripe (#1 is same campus locations) was the music selection. I think they really dropped the ball on the music. The only track I really liked was "DANCER" by "IDLES". That song's been on my repeat playlist since it first came out! Music is a huge part **** like this for me. The vibes were lackluster in that area to say the least.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar10
Sep 17, 2025
As someone who has played all of the original team Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games: I can confidentially say that this title is the absolute best Story of Seasons title of all time! A lot of work went into this remake. It's nothing like the original Grand Bazaar which is good. It feels like a brand new game. Visually beautiful, great mechanics, memorable characters and the inclusion of quite a bit of voice acting is very welcome indeed!

Did I hate this game? No. Could it have been better? Oh ya! Big time!
All I can really say that was great about the game are 2 things: The graphics and the outstanding voice acting. Everything else? The characters, the story, the setting, the gameplay, the music: all of this was unsatisfying. As such a big fan of the original game, that pains me to say but I have to be honest. Chapters 1-3 bored me to death! I considered not playing any more midway through Chapter 2 but did end up playing the entire game to completion. The setting got old really quickly! You traverse the same maps around the campus: Outside campus, Inner campus buildings and The Snapping Turtle pub. That's pretty much it. I don't know who was in charge of the soundtrack but please don't let that person select songs again. There was 1 passable song near the end in Chapter 5 but... ya it was a terrible selection of music tracks. Very unfortunate!

Finally I can hop onto my Switch, enter in a girl's private chamber and receive some puff-puff! If you're a fan of the original DQ III or just a fan of the series in general: You will enjoy this remake! Quality of life features really bring the experience up to modern standards for the most part.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership7
Nov 12, 2024
The game looks great and generally runs smoothly. The battle system is great. I'm not so sold on some of the gameplay elements including some of the story and text throughout. Example: At one point 4 kids that you know volunteer to jump onto a rocket that is destine to crash into a wall and explode. Everyone (including Mario & Luigi) just agree that this is a good plan and let them go. Makes NO sense. On another island you have to get past an area with a sleeping guard. He's sleeping in the dark at night but when you try sneaking past him, he somehow wakes up and stops you. The solution is to turn on the street lamp above him, wake him up and then try to convince him to let you past. Makes NO sense. There are also some worlds with tedious gameplay elements that I really didn't like. Mostly all of Lottacoin Island. Subquests are pretty tedious. I only completed them if the reward was actually useful (a weapon or clothing). Most rewards are useless, especially after getting the Boomerang Items plugin. The game feels needlessly stretched out which some people won't mind... more content, longer gameplay time. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this game to anybody. There are just so many actual great games out right now.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA8
Aug 5, 2024
Truly a great experience to play through! Loved the story and the characters! They even managed to make the castaway side characters loveable which is admirable.
If I had to nitpick, I will say that there are a LOT of spelling errors in the text dialogue especially in the 4th quarter of the game. Feels like someone else took over the text input at that point and was just typing way too fast. What irritates me is that they've had many years to patch it all up and have just decided to ignore it instead.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance2
Jul 28, 2024
It's exceedingly rare that I start a game that I think I'll enjoy and never finish it. I have some OCD that prevents me from leaving a game unfinished. This game I just had to stop playing after the 12 hour mark and that felt so strange to me but it still felt like the right decision. My top gripes with this game were the story and the environment. I'm not talking about the graphics (which are terrible on Switch by the way) but rather the post-apocalyptic Tokyo desert that is this game. It's SO boring and dismal. I just couldn't take another crumbled building, another hill of sand, another field of dirt. Everything is a disgusting shade of gray/brown. For those of you that will say "Oh the story picks up pace later on!": Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. I'm not sticking around to find out! I did choose to "save the girl" at the beginning to experience the new Vengeance storyline, which everyone claims is an improvement on the original storyline. Wow... I can't imagine how bad it was originally. I genuinely felt like my time was wasted and I can't believe that this game is so well regarded. I switched to playing YS VIII on Switch instead and I'm having a great time with that game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate8
Jul 21, 2024
I've played every TMNT game ever released (except for one of the GBA titles I believe). Some beat-em-up fans will argue that Turtles in Time or the recent Shredder's Revenge is the best TMNT game ever made. I personally think that Splintered Fate is the best one so far in all these years!
The absolutely solid voice acting and decent storyline are what carried the game for me but it helps that the game mechanics are well crafted as well with enough unlocks along the way to keep things interesting. They got it running smooth as BUTTER on the Switch!
It's not perfect and if I had to choose 3 things I didn't love it would be: the repetitiveness throughout the game (especially towards the end), the inability to turn sound effect volume down in the options (it's SO loud by default!) and the fact that there are only 4 stages to play through. I would have been happy with 8 stages and a fast travel portal option.
I would recommend this to any TMNT fan!

Metroid Prime Remastered9

It's absolutely amazing how thorough they were with the attention to detail and making the game look as gorgeous as possible for the Switch! In terms of the game formula itself: Little to nothing was changed, which for the most part is fine however, they could have easily added modern day functions such as auto-saving, fast travel and manual saving. The amount of needless backtracking in this game hurts me. Thankfully they made the environments look so good and new enemies pop up in older locations to make things a bit more interesting.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes8
Aug 3, 2022
This game branches out into 3 different story viewpoints and to enjoy the entire story and all of the characters held within: you have to play all 3 paths. The problem? Each path story is around 50 hours long if you do all map missions so it would take you 150 hours to get the entire story and full experience. There's a lot of filler content and it feels like it's only there so that the company can claim 150 hours of content in their game. Less is really more sometimes. I want to experience all view paths and all characters within a 60 hour-ish timeframe. Bad pacing.

For a game developed by 3 students from Shanghai: Their first debut game is absolutely fantastic! As a huge fan of the Mother (Earthbound) series: I really felt the strong resemblance in artform and style here. The music was produced by the same guy who did the music for Unfinished Swan, Death Stranding and the upcoming Halo: Infinite. Great sounding memorable tracks in this game! The story itself while not as touching perhaps as Earthbound was is still one that I'll remember for years to come! People complaining about too much dialog... I didn't find it annoying at all personally. I would wholeheartedly recommend this title! It even launched at a very fair price point!

Monster Harvest4

I've played all of the Harvest Moon games before the developer switched over to Story of Seasons, and **** Valley is my all-time favorite indie game. Unfortunately this game just didn't do it for me. The environment/pixel art itself looks great but beyond that, there's just not much to like here yet. The character art is horrendous! It really looks terrible. No character customization either so you're stuck choosing 1 out of 4 options, all just as ugly as the rest of the townsfolk. Even the character avatars that pop up in chat are quite horrific to behold. The music is alright. Not sure why or how it managed to get old on repeat quite so fast but it did. Game mechanics aren't all bad but they're pretty basic to begin with. The Pokemon style battles are BORING! I just can't recommend this one. It just doesn't have the appeal of anything that it tries to mimic.
