I'm not sure this game holds up too well anymore. Maybe part of my problem was playing it out after lots of Mass Effect 3, thus having expectations about companions' behavior as well as crisp gun control. Graphics are very nice and atmospheric, those hold up quite well after 9 years, technological advances aside. I did ultimately enjoy the level design, back-and-forth maps, and fun comic booky story, despite its forceful cheesiness. But I don't know that post-2011 gamers will get much out of the gameplay. I grew impatient and frustrated (perhaps I should've just played in Normal mode to begin with) and rather than give up completely, chose to barrel my way through the content in god mode so i could at least see the neat little story and levels. I'd only recommend it to nostalgic FPS fans.

Definitely a Devil May Cry sort of a clone. The diskarmor mechanics are strange and not as intuitive as I'd like, what with the combos and upgrades. The graphics and level design are great and spooky, and they take me back to Shadow of the Colossus, but the dialogue and cut-scenes are pretty terrible. Rygar's speech is the worst. This is the best rating I'd give for a game I don't have interest in playing for very long. Doesn't mean it won't work for the console action gamer, especially if you like DMC or similar games.

Having not played this before, the single-player campaign holds up really well! I daresay the expansion is more challenging and compelling than the main game. The british campaign that begins in an airplane is superb! I'd recommend it to any FPS fan that doesn't mind cranking back the graphics and enjoying a compelling WWII experience.

Though I really enjoyed the art and goofy poetry, there was not enough story to hold my attention, and the puzzles became too frustrating as they became based on crackshot timing. It was worth playing for a little while, but ultimately I didn't see the reward in persevering. 5 for great look, but gameplay appealing only for someone that's more of a hardcore twitch platform fan.

Though the SP was surprisingly short, I think it holds up quite well at the dawn of 2011 if you like solid, atmospheric FPSes. The beginning of the American campaign is a perfect companion to the Band of Brothers tv series, and the apocalyptic Stalingrad campaign was eerie and tense. I didn't care as much for the secret agent british campaign, but like all the levels, its all over quickly enough. I'm really glad I went back and revisited this classic. Rated 8 for a good game that i'd recommend to anyone thats okay with slightly dated FPS gaming.

One must expect issues in game-play when you pick things up nine years after their creation. However, Startopia's design is streamlined enough that when you DO have to micromanage, it feels tense and gripping instead of tedious. The game is gorgeous when you look at what it had to work with. I lost hours and hours playing this, mesmerized by the dropping energy levels and hoping that my neighbors don't hack into my space... Anyhow, what a joy. The main game is only ten or so levels, and I was relieved to hit it and be freed from the compelling, addictive game-play. Bravo, Muckyfoot, you did well. RIP.
