Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Smash bros ultimate is an amazing smash game, taking everything that was great about 4 and running with it. All of the characters are fun to play and animated excellently (though not all of them play differently to be honest, the echo fighters are a nice addition but there was already too many Fire Emblem characters BEFORE they decided to add another one with this installment). The game bridges nicely for first time players and professionals, with fast-paced gameplay that we haven't really seen since Melee. There is a wealth of content here, with it taking on average about 1-3 days to unlock the full character roster, new modes that really add a breath of fresh air, a new story mode to unlock spirits, and more than enough stages and soundtracks to never feel like you're repeating battles too often. Lots of tweaks to the gameplay make you think of what your next move should be like the addition of parry's, only one air dodge, and fixes to characters movesets that were not so great in 4 (i.e. Pikachu's neutral air is the equivalent of Mewtwo's in Smash 4, which is fantastic). There's something here for everyone, and with an excellent first DLC character reveal of Joker, Nintendo finally seems to be giving the Smash community what they want. The only real negative I have about the game is that the online play is abysmal at the moment, the removal of For Glory was a questionable choice, but with updates trickling out that are improving the matchmaking to give you your preferences, this game is looking up.

Persona Dancing: Endless Night Collection

The Persona Endless Night Collection is an idea that should have been great but has been questionably executed. I will start by saying the best part of this deal is getting three games for $100, and Persona 4:Dancing All Night is a great spin-off game, and how P3D and P5D SHOULD have been done. The first problem is the packaging, the two physical games and download code come in one case that only has a single disc slot with the two discs stacked on top of each other. For a Collectors Edition, they should have had separate slots for the two discs at the very least, the art book okay I suppose. Not good or terrible, just okay. Persona 3 and 5 Dancing feel like they were rushed compared to Persona 4 Dancing. There is no real story mode in these two games and they are both lacking in tracks compared to P4D. Both games are well animated and they brought back their original voice actors (not including P4D, which for some reason replaced Rise's voice actor. I'm guessing Laura Bailey was busy when Atlus was creating the game?) but the worst practice for all of these games is the insulting DLC. There is over $80 worth of DLC for P3D and P5D, most of which is costume packs that should have been in the game to increase the content and additional songs that are either insulting that they aren't included in the game (seriously, how are you going to make P5D and cut out Beneath the Mask?) or not worth your money because they are only the intro's of the songs (really Atlus, 0.99 for the first 30 seconds of Shadow World? Mmk). If you bought the DLC for P4D already on the Vita, I have bad news for you; It doesn't carry over. There is certainly fun to be had with this collection since you can never go wrong with the amazing soundtrack from Persona games, just make sure to skip the DLC if you decide to get it.

Bethesda, I'm curious. How could you tolerate a pathetic piece of **** like this to wear the Fallout name in the title? The only reason I am giving this a 1 is because the game at least starts when you launch it (though, whether or not the game decides to crash in the next five minutes is questionable at best.) I tried to go into this game with the most optimism and open mind that I could manage, despite knowing this is online only (a practice I am 100% against in this industry since as soon as you decide to turn the servers off, everyone is left with a $60 coffee coaster), yet you managed to make this dingleberry hit every **** on its way down the toilet. Outdated textures that look comparable to Morrowind in some areas (seriously, did you buy some of these enemies from the Unity Asset Store?), uninspired and boring weapons like the Pipe weapons from Fallout 4, a complete lack of story that carries the other Fallout games, lazy animations/complete lack of animations for some enemies, a nauseating V.A.T.S., and player interaction that is about as good as it was when The Elder Scrolls Online launched. I did not take this amateur hour school project back for a refund, instead I took it outside and fired 76 rounds of .40 S&W into it because I didn't want someone to see it Pre-Owned and think to try this cancer for themselves at the discounted price. Not only was the game bad, but you have also included microtransactions, false advertising on the collectors edition, made the game grindier post-patch without informing anyone, and disclosed people's credit card information. That, on top of the fact that you want to use the same engine for the new Elder Scrolls, has successfully ensured that I will never purchase another game from you ever again. Way to ruin a franchise with a great amount of potential.

Persona 4 Golden

You know you have something special when a game can be considered so good, it inspires people to buy a PS Vita just to play it. Calling it a re-master is doing the game a disservice. Persona 4 Golden is a beautiful combination of a high school sim, murder-mystery story, and dungeon crawler all in one package. The game has the perfect balance of time spent at school struggling to maintain grades, school activities, and relationships with your group of friends while also balancing that time spent in the TV world slaying shadows and chasing the truth of a string of serial killings in your small, quiet town. These two aspects of the game blend together perfectly as making your bonds stronger in the real world provides benefits while dungeon crawling (group attacks, your allies will pick you up if you get knocked down, and some will even push you out of the way to take a fatal hit for you.) Every character you come across is well written and the characters who make up your Investigation Team end up being so excellently created that you care for them and their struggles on a personal level. The turn based combat is rewarding, especially on higher difficulties, making you feel accomplishment for clearing floors to save the next victim, and the Shuffle Time event is an addicting way to unlock new Persona's, skills, and items to help you in the TV world. The game departs from Persona 3's darker tone and has a more humorous cast this time around that works really well and creates an overall enjoyable experience while still having its darker moments and even moments of sadness. By the time the credits roll, you almost get this feeling of emptiness as you realize you'll never play the game for the first time again and that your adventure with the Investigation Team is over. There are also multiple endings that reward players who can keep a clear mind and their emotions out of the mix to lead their group to the truth and get the true ending. If you have a Vita, this game is a MUST OWN and an excellent starting point into the Persona series.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

If you are a fan of the Persona series, I cannot stress what a disservice this game does to the series. Immediately from the start, there is no reason to become invested in the story as it takes place before the endings of both Persona 3 and 4, and pulls the "memory wipe" card so that they can call it canon without thinking about the consequences. There is no social links, none of your dialogue "options" change the story or carry any actual importance, and the story will play out the same and only serve to disappoint you from what you've come to expect from a Persona game. The gameplay is the worst part of this entire "experience." Think of the dungeon crawling aspects of Persona 3 and 4. Now imagine if that was the ONLY thing to do in the entire game. Now imagine there was no mini-map in either of those games and you had to draw your own as you explore each floor. Now imagine the removal of the tactics of ambushing shadows and having free movement. That is the gameplay you can expect here. You move one tile at a time and cannot avoid enemy encounters. The only area that exists outside of the Labyrinth is the school's hallway where you can buy/upgrade gear, fuse Personas, and heal (which you have to use your precious yen to do, as the game will not automatically heal you after leaving the Labyrinth since there is not a calendar system like the other Persona games.) Fusing Persona's is also terribly implemented in this game as well. You can only have two Persona's at one time, because your teammates also have the ability to hold two now as well, but they didn't bother animating the Persona's when you use their powers. The only reason I didn't score this game any lower is due to the fact that the character artwork is nice (the drawn character portraits, the 3d visuals are outdated), the music is still as good as you can expect from a Persona game, and the voice acting is well done. Avoid this game and if you need a good experience to spend additional time with the Investigation Team, look at getting Arena and Arena Ultimax or Dancing All Night, as they are far superior spin-off titles. The idea of having the casts of the Persona series together in one game is sound, just terribly executed.

This is a must own game if you are a PS4 owner and are looking to jump into the Persona series. Excellent storyline that keeps the player's interest and intensity until the credits roll, amazing combat system with one of the best soundtracks of all time to compliment it, memorable characters you actually grow attached to, and a very unique progression system that involves some time management to get the most out of each in-game day. An average first playthrough will take somewhere around the 100-108 hour range and when you add in the new game plus elements, you will certainly get your moneys worth with this game. This was my introduction into the Persona series and I can safely say that this game will have no issues making you a fan of the series and possibly making it one of your favorite franchises of all time.
