Super Mario Odyssey10
Nov 1, 2017
Super Mario Odyssey takes everything that made the 3D Mario genre great and blends it all together in one big grand adventure. While short, the main story kept a grin on my face the entire time, with surprises around every corner. The controls play like you think they will, and like you want them to. The graphical art style is amazing, and while 900p may not sound great on paper, the fantastic colors, lighting, and the locked 60 frames per second will make you forget the Switch's hardware limitations. The soundtrack is phenomenal, possibly grammy-worthy. The sheer amount of collectibles found in the game will keep anyone coming back for more. Very few games have ever made me cry tears of joy at the ending; Odyssey is one of them. If I had any complaints about the game, it would be the story's length. But the good thing about that is that you can play it again and again. Super Mario Odyssey is the greatest video game of all time, and I can't give it a high enough score. If you own a Switch, you need to buy it. If you own an XB1 or PS4, you need to sell it and buy a Switch and this game. This game is not worth 60 dollars, it's priceless.

Snake Pass6

While the concept in and of itself is brilliant, the gameplay doesn't put it to use. Both the default and easy controls are awkward to use, and the camera can be a little wonky at times. While graphics shouldn't matter, the game appears blurry, even in docked mode. Checkpoints are frustrating as well. If you mess up, you'll be sent back to the checkpoint, losing all progress you've made after you activated that checkpoint. The game can be very slow-paced and I never found myself wanting to play for more than 20 minutes at a time. While it's not for me, Snake Pass is a game that depends on the person's preferences. My advice would be if you're to spend $20, spend it on something like Snipperclips or Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment10
Mar 17, 2017
Absolutely brilliant. Shovel of Hope and Plague of Shadows are fine games in their own right, but they can't even come close to the story of Specter of Torment. Everything was done right. Jake Kaufman truly outdid himself with the soundtrack, remastering pretty much every main song from the original. The level design is spot-on, requiring you to stay on your toes and use Specter Knight's abilities accordingly. While Specter of Torment is a prequel, you must play the other campaigns first, as there are too many spoilers and references in Specter of Torment that you wouldn't understand unless you've played Shovel of Hope. The game truly is a masterpiece, and yes I'll say it, it's even better than Breath of the Wild. Buy this game now.
