you are joking. After vampire diaries and the originals this is the **** you drop on us? the main actress is nothing more than eyes and **** The whole cast is just there to worship her **** and eyes and all knowing persona. **** **** **** the actress is best getting her **** out on camera for money as she has no emotional talent like a proper actor has. The actresses who play the sisters are good. Those actresses have emotional truth. the main actress is just **** and arse and no truth to her. Burn baby burn

Patrick has a broken voice. One broken of old age and experience. I vote for his experience. his performance outshines all around. With regard to the series i don't give a **** I saw Patrick in live theatre and he is a class **** terms of his TV/film star trek work he always blew all other trek actors off the set.

Pretentious drivel. Not a valid reboot but a boot up the backside of the viewer. The sad thing is it could set back the careers of some of the actors such is the depth of cretinism and insult to the viewer the producers and writers had delved into. It is not that I do not get 'IT', or breaking the 4th wall is wrong. Shakespearean era theatre used to do asides, which involved a character doing a one liner to the audience now and again. This season is demeaning to the viewer. There seems to be this idea in the industry all viewers are fans and all fans will put up with any old sh 1 t! I think this confirms that is their opinion. It saddens me, I did like the first 4 seasons as i do a heavy client facing job which deals with some bad problems and light entertainment is a welcome relief. This is an insult to light entertainment! I am not some moron who wants to essentially have the piss taken out of them by the multimillionaire producers. It is not a brave experiment but;- Sophomoric, pretentious, childish, viewer insulting rubbish! It will no doubt get 9's 10's but it you have a few million, a few thousand is nothing to pay off a few student to write bogus reviews. Get a can of paint throw it against a wall and watch it dry rather than waste time on this.

Overall I like the series, but it sometimes falls a little flat. At times it feels hurried and lacking the depth, and side-plots, of the books. Information is suddenly available to the characters, many things seem to happen overnight and off screen. for example, Lyra secretly moves to a place and lo-and-behold a few minutes later her enemies know and raid said place. I have read a few of the professional reviews and one thing they fail to mention, as usual, budget. This is a series which could do with an extra two of even four episodes per season to capture the depth and scope of the books. After all Pullman's original does cover 2 alternate universes and the whole of Christianity. Until a production company has the finances of a Starwars or Harry Potter production, we aren't going to see Pullman's work done full and proper TV justice. Mrs Coulter is very well portrayed. The CGI for the daemons is well done and, usually, seems naturalistic. The North has the bleakness and majesty expected of a true arctic landscape. As in the books part of me wants to protect Lyra at the same time as telling her to stop being such a brat! The often hurried pace tends to make the other characters a little shallow. The diversity casting is rather like using a sledge hammer to crack a peanut and leaves a bitter taste of political correctness on the back of the tongue. The Gyptians just do not come across to be the unified people they should be. Despite rousing speeches and group cheers. What it does do well is convey the underlying themes of the books, the authoritarianism and suppression of the Magisterium, greased with lashings of hypocrisy. I get the over all impression the production team have been trying really hard to get the feel of the original within serious budgetary constraints and politically correct management silliness. Well worth a watch!

The fact is that although I agree with most of the criticisms here the fact is the show made money. It says more about the state of the typical viewer than the low standard of characterisation and plot development seen through the entire series. I only kept going for the Chief, Sharon, Halo and a lot of laughter about how physics is treated! The only time I've liked clowns!

I am of an older generation and use to a slow burner. However the fuse hasn't even been lit on this one! The writing is mediocre. The way the science and research is treated is laughable. It may pass for young teens/ preadolescence but the series is aimed at older audience. None of the character have any...character!. It is a dull slog which portrays the GALCIT team as blue collar underdogs, when they were all from fairly well connected backgrounds, despite some problems with the depression. Tedious and below my threshold for suspension of disbelief yet another example of the artsy community having no real understanding of sciences and so not knowing how to portray them dynamically with depth. Do not waste your time.

Really wanted to enjoy this, but the script is tawdry, the acting stilted or melodramatic, The scenery is fantastic but that's Mother nature, whilst the nature of the show is unappealing. another evil corporation/army plot, yawn! The characters are cardboard cut-outs, and good looking actors and actresses don't sell a show if their characters are about as appealing as an STD! Don't see a second season getting on the story board let alone on the screen.

this is definitely not for the 18 to 49 demo. but 10 to 16 demo who still watch with mum and dad. With that in mind, it is not a bad show. My personal entertainment satisfaction is 1, but for a parent child audience 7

I am giving this a 3 as the ship designs are pretty good. McFarlane must have a lot of relatives or the job security of his employees must be limited for them to come here and write positive reviews about this nowhere show. Neither drama nor comedy. dull, self important, simplistic characters, it seems more about the creators ego than entertaining the viewer.

Lets get rid of this binge watch vs weekly rubbish at the start. Until very recently people(viewers) talked about season development and weekly viewers understood it takes time for a series to develop. it seems like this binge/slow burner tag has now become Netflix marketing speak. So lets talk in terms of what Metacritic has always been good at, allowing a personal view. I liked the original from an action point of view, but as drama it failed. Just far too too many plot holes. Same with this. Writers call it lack of internal consistency. Sort of "...how can they shoot them but they can't shoot back"; with paint ball or laser tag we can get "hurt" as human players through tagging. What is the point of paying thousands of £/$ for an adventure when there is no personal risk, such as there is in paintball/lasertag etc. None fatal limited chances. So far the interactive theme park which is the backdrop makes little to no sense. I have little interest in any of the characters, as they are distant and vague. As others have hinted at cardboard cutouts, 2D at best. The CGI and technical work is visually stunning. The actors must have been filmed doing first run rehearsals. Not a slur against their talents just that the production fails as a whole. So 5 for technical effort and great backdrop.

I had hopes for this, but the characters are tedious, I identify with none of them such that i care about their stories. The visual realisation is great. The setting and idea fantastic. The pace is slow and again none of the characters are personable enough to want to follow. I watch five of the episodes. I might try it again but... And for a man of his age Millers hair cut is laughable. I think I will try the books.

Season 1 started of intriguing then became sillier and sillier. Season two started of intriguing and became sillier and sillier. Season 3 cuts out the middle man and starts with a ridiculous waste of space hour and a half special, which is more special needs than especially worth watching. I hope they cancel very soon and put the budget to better use, like a show where walls are painted before our eyes and we get to watch them dry. perhaps the painting could be carried out by female members of the cast of Dome in pregnancy suits, they could call it Big Mother !

I have read the books and thought season 5 lives up to book 5, slow. It was my least favourite of them all. In the TV series I think some of the problem is that they have too few episodes to investigate and follow the individual plot lines properly, rather like LOTR being cut to 2, 2 hour films. It is also a very expensive show to produce and they need to reduce costs as much as possible. Dialogue is cheaper than action. The result is a lack of focus and direction which uses boobs and bums (no news there) to keep young male audience figures up (so to speak). Although I have not written reviews for the previous seasons I would have scored them 7 to 9 ( I never give a 10 because nothing is perfect). This season I mark down because just as I am engaging comfortably with a set of characters, they swap to a new set of characters. Dis-jointed character continuity. I get the impression that they are saving the budget for a crash bang wallop last two episodes. I have read on a couple of posts, not just here but elsewhere that it is surprising the author agrees to this change or that change compared to the books. I cannot think of an example where the author had any direct say in decision making once they had signed the original contract to transfer from book to TV or film. I am not criticising those posters just hoping to clarify a point.

Definitely not a show for anyone who has been raised on quick fix murder mysteries. Not all TV has to be wham bang thank you, rinse and redo. This is not pop-corn and cabbage-out viewing (which I do myself from time to time, just not all the time) This is not about solving the case but examining the personalities around it. It is less a crime drama more a psychological mystery; to a lesser extent a look at moral and political ambiguity and deceit. I understand why they cancelled as the format of the first two seasons would not work without the backdrop of the Mayoral elections allowing for the time frame and pressure. I did find the ending episodes disappointing and fudged in season 2. It is moody and intense, it seems Seattle (Vancouver filmed) is in a state of almost perpetual downpour. At times it can seem a bit overwhelming. It is not meant to be a procedural piece of work but an emotional one, so the techniques used by the detectives are inaccurate for today, but they do nothing that wasnt standard practice in some forces within living memory. The writers do indicate they are not ignorant of procedure but bypassing for effect, when villains ask for lawyers the detectives approach changes and interview room brutality stops. Overall I liked the series, but they should have dropped the format to 8/10 episodes per season. I had the feeling the producers had trouble striking through script writers ideas and tightening the flow of the story.

I think this show will appeal mainly to American audiences in the 12 to 24 bracket. I wanted to like it, have watched season 1 and part of season 2, with quite a bit of fast forwarding, but cannot like it. I have no empathy with the main character, every female except his mother instantly falls for his chiseled features and moody demeanour, not his billionaire status. He has all the personality of a haddock. The women in the show belong on some 1980s daytime soap as does much of the dialogue. Regarding the action, I have no problem suspending my disbelief, but I will not shoot myself in the common sense to do so! I can accept superman being hit by bullets to no effect, the Flash dodging them, The Hulk smashing them but a chiseled model with no superpowers other than shed loads of money dodging close range submachine gun fire, too far, too much and it dumbs down what should be fun action. The fact that people actually do die I give a point or two for, as it does show an underlying desire not to glamourise violence. Dark and moody I don't mind, but confused and dreary is what this is. The plot lines are either obvious to the point of needing to vomit with boredom, or forced and convoluted making me grab for the fast forwards. Over all a shallow dumbed down insult to the genre. As it is dumbed down no doubt it will draw in commercial success from the younger audiences who have been subjected to a life time of such TV drudgery! However I like Diggle, strange that a working class white Brit relates better to an Afro-American character than any of the supposedly white-American blue collar characters, says something about the characterisations and scripting. So I will add a couple of points for him.
