The Expanse9

The Expanse is a rare synthesis of speculative world-building, political nuance, and character-driven storytelling that elevates science fiction television. What begins as a noir-tinged mystery in the asteroid belt unfurls into a vast geopolitical epic, balancing interstellar diplomacy, class struggle, and existential horror with remarkable **** Season 3—the show’s most refined arc—the series transcends its genre roots. The pace accelerates without sacrificing thoughtfulness, the cast settles into layered performances, and the show’s moral complexity sharpens as human interests collide with alien technologies. The visual effects rival big-budget films, but what lingers is the show's willingness to treat its audience as intellectually and emotionally capable: to wrestle with consequences, ambiguity, and hope in equal measure. What holds The Expanse back from absolute perfection is structural, not thematic. Early pacing issues and occasional exposition-heavy dialogue can be hurdles for some viewers. But once it hits its stride, it becomes one of the most ambitious and philosophically rich sci-fi dramas since Battlestar Galactica—and arguably more **** a genre too often driven by spectacle or nostalgia, The Expanse dares to think, dares to challenge, and dares to grow.

It's madder than a basket of snakes and isn't faithful to the books, but as a standalone series it's fun and engaging, and the casting is excellent. Many of the user-reviews here will be disparaging of the series for one of two reasons. Either that it isn't true to STP's Discworld canon, or, that they object to the 'woke' nature of the series. The first reason has some validity because it would have been nice if a faithful telling of the 'Guards' sub-series already existed, because then I think this series would be less contronversial a la BBC's Sherlock series. The second reason is due to some people on the right who are engaging in tactics like review bombing. Which to be frank is a bit pathetic. If you don't like the idea of something then don't watch it, or at least, before you make a judgement and post a negative review actually make an effort to properly watch the show.
