Minecraft Dungeons8

A Minecraft-themed dungeon crawler that is well balanced, never too easy and never too hard. Beating the Arch-Illager, Archie, is obtainable even for casual gamers. The items are numerous and varied, meted out at just the right rate to make properly levelled gear available for the next adventure. Some exploits exist, such as spamming Necromancer spawn to rapidly level up. Two player games on the Switch unfortunately lag a bit. It’s a disappointment at first but later is lost to the action. The expansion levels (DLC) once the quest is completed on default difficulty are exceptional. Indeed, they are so impressive, that I recommend buying the Hero addition (all DLC included) from the get go. The best part about the game is the immediate familiarity, building upon the Minecraft look and feel. As an easily accessible dungeon crawler built upon an existing franchise, this game delivers.

Golf Story7

A simple, enjoyable golf RPG akin to something one would play on iOS. Gameplay is straight forward and easy to master. Characters are varied and humorous. It's a nice casual break from the more complex and difficult games like Zelda BotW and Sonic Mania.

With a paucity of content and limited replay value, this title is well overpriced. Comparing competitors of equal cost, this offering simply does not have sufficient content to offer gamers a good value. On the plus side, PAC-MAN Vs. is innovative and fun. I would have loved to see other retro games be given similar treatment. In short, wait until this is on sale.

Sonic Mania10

Sonic Mania takes the 1980s classic to the next level. For those familiar with the franchise, this throwback will astound in its massive worlds, creative updates, and faithfulness to the original. I am in awe of the artistic and technical genius that brought forth a new gaming masterpiece. Truly, this labor of love is a gift to the gaming community. With that said, just like the original Sonic it starts out easy and then you die a lot, as it should be.

Hyrule Warriors10

A perfectly executed tribute to all things Zelda coupled with satisfying Dynasty Warriors gameplay. This game has instantly become one of my all time favorites in a gaming career that spans decades. The sheer magnitude of this game is unbelievable. It goes on and on and on (and the tribute material goes on and on as well). As for gameplay, it's easy to pick up as a beginner — just mash the buttons. However, soon you'll find yourself reading through forums learning the tricks of combos and using the dash to break an animation to speed up your character. This is a truly exceptional, very special game. I cannot recommend it enough.
