The game is a very slow narrative game. It is a story about growing up but I cannot relate to it as my childhood was very different. It would have been fine if it was a 5hr game but again it is like reading a very long picture book you have to run to each paragraph. Dialogue that goes nowhere and I kept falling asleep while playing it. Little things like a fast travel or even a run button would be appreciated. There are only like 5-10 main screens and you need to load each one. I only beat Act 2 and put it down. You are just running around talking to the same NPCs with some very mild puzzle and platforming if you choose too. I got it on PS+ and think it is fine for something like that or gamepass. Even a demo so people could try it out but I wouldn't spend money on it.

This game is jack of all trades but a master of none. It heavily plays of kid franchises like pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh!/persona/monster hunter which I all love. For a game geared towards children however, the amount of systems it throws at you is way more that even I wanted to deal with as an adult. Luckily none of it really matters because I just followed the destination marker and was fine for the most part. The game heavily emphasize changing out your armor but even with the default armor you can beat this game with some grinding. To trivialize it even more one could just enter a password and buy Top Grade (TG) starting around story 3-4. There is a ton of backtracking for no reason. Literally just to talk to 1 npc, sleep in a bed, say you went to school, etc... The fast travel is somewhat annoying. You cannot fast travel at anytime you have to reach the edge of a map to be able to fast travel. The character runs incredibly slow and there is no run button. There are npc's you can battle all over the normal map by walking up to them and challenging them (yellow dots on mini-map game never actually tells you this). Then in dungeons you will encounter random battles like persona. I never challenged anyone outside of the dungeon. The random encounters were enough. The encounter rate is almost set too high. The amount of loading for a battle is also insane. First you encounter an enemy and there is a loading screen. Then it gives a chance to upgrade/maintenance your LBX. After that there is another loading screen and the battle starts. However in all battles you start off far away from the opponent and you need to spend the next 10-20 seconds (depending on the terrain) until you actually engage them. I am used to the old style of JRPGs random encounters I grew up in the 80s/90s but in those cases you get one 3-5 second loading screen and you are fighting. Here you are looking at 20seconds-1min before you may be fighting. There are treasure chests in these dungeons but they were not worth my time mostly just healing items I can buy, and due to the insane amount of battles/loading time they were not worth my time to go get. The combat is stiff and deliberate like monster hunter you are committed to your attacks. It being on the 3ds the camera control is also a problem. You maybe engaged in 1 enemy but another is attacking you. You can only target 1 enemy at a time and while you can switch enemies there is no option for a free roaming camera system. Later on it seems enemies always start off with a full special meter because they will pull off special moves without even doing damage. Enemies always get knocked over (like a fighting game) and are immune to attacks while getting up. They also run away all the time when are low on HP and you have to "chase" them around for no reason besides to drag out the battle. Again none of it is really hard it is just annoying. The one thing I find enjoyable about this game are the visuals. It is similar to yo-kai watch in that aspect. The cut scenes are nice looking anime scenes and are sharp. The world map and character design is colorful and detailed for the system. Voice acting is great. There is a lot of it in the game. I have heard the post game is where the fun is but after spending about 20hrs just stream lining the main story I am ready to put this game down. All in all the whole experience felt pointless. You can customize your LBX but don't need too, you can do side quests but they are simple fetch/battle quests and you do not need too, you can challenge NPCs but do not need too. If you really like mech games and like customizing your robot then this maybe for you if you can get it cheaply.

Takes you from the end of the first World tournament to the end of the Red Ribbon Army saga. If is a pretty good retelling of the dragon ball story. A solid 3/5 stars I would give this. The game-play does get repetitive and it is a difficult game. Save your zeni until the end the last 2 worlds you will need to buy healing items. Overall if you a dragon ball fan there is not to many dragon ball only games and this is the better of the bunch.
