Alita: Battle Angel

Alita: Battle Angel is a fun action packed movie with a lot of cool and interesting sci-fi elements. Rosa Salazar shines as the hero Alita, and she is the stand out star of this movie. I have not seen the anime or have read the manga so all of my thoughts about this are strictly about the movie as I have no real knowledge about this property. The things I liked about are the performances all around. It stars Rosa Salazar as the main protagonist Alita, and she does a great job in this "fish out of water" kind of scenario where she can't remember who she is. It is fun seeing her go through this journey to remember who she is. It doesn't just feed all of the flashbacks to the audience which was well done. She receives some memories during important moments. One example of this is the first time she gets into a fight and she remembers a battle she fought in hundreds of years prior. The way the flashbacks for the most part were executed well except for one of them. Another positive was the world they set up. This is a world I would like to see developed a little more, including the history of this Great War between the United Republic of Mars and Earth, (At least I believe they were fighting Earth). Some negatives are that the story doesn't reach a satisfying conclusion. It ends in a cliffhanger, which I hope they will continue in a sequel because this character deserves more. But I don't usually like when movies end in huge cliffhangers, especially if it seems like that movie won't be getting a sequel. Another negative was the way one of the flashbacks was handled. In total they show the audience 3 flashbacks of Alita and the first 2 make sense as to why she's remembering them at that moment in time. The last one seems to be just a random moment during the war. Looking back it might have been about the mission to destroy the flying city of Zalem, but it seems like a random flashback as we already know that is what her mission is. Overall I think Alita: Battle Angel does enough on the surface to be a solid standalone film, but it does leave a lot to be desired and I really hope they make a sequel to this.

A new action film hits Netflix and I think it is really good. This movie has good action scenes, the performances were really good. I really felt the bond between these characters. The positives are that Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, and Garrett Hedlund do an excellent job in convincing me that they were once brothers in arms and that they are hardened badasses. It is more serious than I was expecting but that doesn't take away from this film as an enjoyable action experience. A negative I had with this movie is that there wasn't a whole lot of great action scenes. When they happened it was enjoyable and shot really well, but then the movie slows down a lot and it never really feels like this Cartel is after them. Overall I think this is a good movie with great performances, and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I think this movie is perfectly fine if you are looking for some simple Marvel entertainment. The problem I have is that I don't think it is as good as many other marvel films in the MCU. There's a great message about being your true self and finding the power within, however there is a moment in the film that contradicts this and they play it off as if it is just something that's okay. I won't say what it is for spoiler reasons. For the things that I liked about it, the sci-fi elements were cool, especially the world of the Kree. Their empire was really cool to see especially after seeing them in Guardians of the Galaxy. I also liked Ben Mendelson who plays Talos, and Samuel L. Jackson who plays once again the one and only Nick Fury. The performances all around except for Brie Larson were pretty good. Another I want to say is that they do a tremendous tribute to the late great Stan Lee. It is such a beautiful moment of the film. I won't say what it is but it was really sweet. Now for the things I don't like, first off, I am not a fan of Brie Larson's performance. I don't like how she is a super sassy egotistical person who I feel doesn't really take things seriously, and when she does, it doesn't feel like Brie Larson actually cares enough. She was in my opinion, the downside to this movie. I am hoping later on they can develop her character more, because this movie did not do that at all. Brie Larson is a talented actress, but the direction and writing of her character in this movie fell flat. Overall this movie just feels like set up for Avengers Endgame with no real character development. Carol Danvers is an unlikeable person, and I'm hoping she develops into a superhero that I can be inspired by. Thor did that for me in Ragnarok, but I don't want to wait 3 or 4 movies with Captain Marvel before I start to feel as though she is someone who I feel is inspiring. If you like this movie, that's fine, if you don't like this movie, that's okay too. There's nothing wrong with disliking this movie, or even hating it. Just as there's no reason for loving this movie and thinking it is just okay. It's a decent movie for people looking to just simply be entertained, but for me, I expect something more out of the MCU which has given us some of the best characters in cinema.

I understand the criticisms of this biopic and I do agree with some of them which is why I don't think it is a solid 10/10. But I really enjoy this movie and I think it is pretty great. Rami Malek does a tremendous job portraying the late great Freddie Mercury. I do agree that it is pretty much a movie of Queen's greatest hits which is why I really liked it. Watching this movie and listening to the greats such as We Will Rock You, Hammer to Fall, Radio Gaga, Fat Bottomed Girls, etc. is part of the experience. An issue I had with the movie is during the live aid sequence, Rami Malek's performance looks a little strange. He moves a little robotic like, especially when he opens his mouth. A problem I have with it is not only does it look strange, but it also looks like he's not even singing. I understand he wasn't actually singing during that sequence, my problem is that it doesn't look like he was really singing. Overall, I really enjoyed the film, it has some issues, but I think the performance by Rami Malek, and the hits by Queen are definitely the selling point.

This is such an iconic heist movie that has great writing, performances, and a great bank robbery shootout scene. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are the best part of this movie. The writing for the characters is great. A problem I have with Heat is that I think it is a little too long. It is 2 hours and 52 minutes long and it can get a little boring. That is my biggest issue with the film, but I think it is pretty good. I would definitely recommend it for people who like heist movies.

I only give this a 1 out of 10 because it can technically be described as "a movie." It is 1 hour and 58 minutes long and the first action scene wasn't until about an hour in. Unfortunately by that point the movie has showed that it is all style and no substance, except the style is bad. I think Mads Mikkelsen is a great actor, which is unfortunate because this could have been a fun action movie where he's a retired hitman, instead it is not fun, and the villains are way too over the top for my liking. It gets to the point where it is just ridiculous. I don't recommend this movie because it does not have good action sequences, and it has very over the top villains.

I think this movie offers some great insight into true hatred on both sides of a conflict. But it is about understanding out hatred so we can move on and reconcile in the future. I like how neither Christian Bale's character or the Native characters are good or evil. They are simply people, one just doing his job and the other who is caught in a horrific conflict. Great performances also by almost everyone and the cinematography is gorgeous. This movie makes me think and I believe it does a tremendous job.
