Prepare to sit through a very long "before" as the movie explores Tony's thuggish, comic-book background. (Cross a Mafiosi and a New Yoaker, that's Tony!) Then sit through a well-meaning but laborious exposition of how he and a self-centered, judgmental black musical genius develop a (dare we say it) quasi-affectionate relationship. After one hour I took my leave, but maybe you'l stay longer and tell me how it ends...

A disappointment. Sure, we know how it all turns out, but plenty of other dramatic films have managed to present true stories in a compelling way. Presenting Irving as a buffoon robs the film of its central conflict. And Weisz plays an overwrought role from the start, badly diluting the emotional impact of the defense team's visit to Auschwitz. Really, the lawyers' constant turmoil is distracting. So much effort is expended to create conflict that we are left to wonder how these people ever manage to make it to court on time.

Devastating, and absolutely unforgettable. Includes an incredibly candid depiction of the effects of the title character's disability on his wife, who tries to stay sane while dealing with her husband's increasingly severe affliction. If, like me, you're dealing with the inevitable troubles of aging, see this film for a ****...balance. An Oscar winner.

I can't understand why anyone would take pleasure from an (admittedly, wealthy) unfortunate's delusions. Yet most everyone in the auditorium laughed - loudly - whenever the title character "sang." This mean spiritedness, which the script seems to encourage, seems a reflection of the times. I finally had enough and left.

Disturbing, fascinating and uncompromising view of a deeply troubled creative genius, who seduced the fashion world as he was slowly but inexorably destroyed by drugs, sex and booze. A near-anthropological examination, shot with exquisite attention to time and place, and benefiting from a large, talented cast and obviously generous budget, "Saint Laurent" is a true feast for the eyes and mind. Warning: includes graphic depictions of sex and drug use.

A superficial account, strangely structured around repeated flash-forwards to Cantinflas' dalliance with Mike Todd and his "Around the World in Eighty Days." Wonderful performances from a very talented cast.

I'm puzzled by the positive reviews. The plot is lame, full of holes and predictable - if by that you mean expecting the worst, and getting it - with sophomoric performances and over-the-top fight scenes that no flesh-and-blood creatures could possibly survive. It's not bad - it's terrible!

Takes its time to get going, and characters are pretty cartoonish (watch out for the humorless old guy, and the wacky Russian!) Best acting job is by a kid. Still, a decent popcorn picture, and the special effects bely a reported micro-budget..

Jiro Dreams of Sushi5

It's an interesting film, but halfway through becomes quite repetitive. While a lot is said about the craft aspects of making sushi, the process is never described in any detail from beginning to end, so we're left to trust in its complexity. Some lip service is paid to conservation issues, which anyone who follows such things knows is a terrible problem in the Japanese fishing industry.

Igonore the mixed reviews and go see this flm. It is a stunner. Great story and terrific performances. Just be prepared to pay attention - it's definitely not a "sit back and let your mind go" popcorn flick.
