Trinity Fusion4
Feb 10, 2024
Trinity Fusion is a fun but mediocre roguelike at a medium price point. While it clearly takes some inspiration Metroidvanias and Dead Cells, while it nails the fluidity and movement, it lacks much to keep the attention. A lackluster, confusing progression, boring abilities and weapons, and minimal reason to invest in the story or characters holds this game back from standing tall with the other greats in the genre. However the 20-25$ price point, it does reasonable make back it's money in play time. Don't go in with too high expectations, but there is some good hack and slash and shoot in store.

Super Meat Boy Forever4

I was a big fan of the original Super Meat Boy, and when i found out the sequel was launching, only a week before launch, i got pumped to dive in on launch day.
However, this does NOT resemble the original, for worse. The switch over to auto-run was a big back step for the series, resulting in a game that feels like you are simply trying to follow an intended path, rather than having control and choice in how to approach a level. The levels themselves are generated on a per chunk basis, meaning the levels are longer, but can be far more droll, repetitive, and nonsensical. On the more positive side, the controls and responsiveness are tight, the cut-scenes and music are fantastic, and some of the intuitive level mechanics are very interesting and fun, as well as there being a lot of them. Unfortunately, the unlockables are sub par, the bosses are fun but limited, and the levels do not feel like individual levels, but rather stacks of shiny scraps taped together to form a messy whole. This leaves the experience feeling very empty after a quick play through, and the desire to race the clock just wasn't there for me. If you are a fan of minimal button, mobile-like games for everyone, then the very reasonable price tag will make it worth it for a few hours of fun. But for the hardcore gamers out there looking for something unique like the original Super Meat Boy, this just isn't it.

I picked up this game alongside another 16 bit rpg as something unique to play for 3$. As soon as i started, i was impressed by how the game world is given to you. The no button npc dialogue. Quickly i found myself in the shop, excited to save my coins for a shiny new sword. And when i hit the final boss of the first world, i was immediately impressed by the fluidity of the fight and that it had variety in attack patterns. And when i realized that the game is not in fact 100% linear i was blown away. Its nothing groundbreaking and it wont win Game of the Year, but the level design, clever puzzles, simple controls, fair but challenging hidden items, enemy variety, incredible bosses, and loads of collectibles ensures there is a LOT to do. And it handles like a DREAM. Tightest controls from here to the mushroom kingdom.
