Fragproof

The art direction, atmosphere, story, and narration carry this game (I really loved the single narrator for all text - I felt like someone was reading me a story). The puzzles are just fine but not noteworthy. Performance and resolution on the Switch isn't great. I experienced some glitches and one crash.

I love the story, the characters, the gameplay, the music, the writing... There is so much to love about this game. I never played the original, but the HD remake benefits from HD rumble and improved controls. For me, using the touchscreen in handheld or dual joycons in docked worked well for the celestial brush techniques. Despite being an HD remake, the textures are still pretty low resolution and the camera can be harder to control by modern standards, but overall the game delivers an excellent experience.

The first few hours were magical. I was drawn in by the music, art, animation, and the first sassy spirit you meet. The game does a wonderful job teaching you the mechanics of the game and opening the world up to you. Unfortunately the rest of the game becomes repetitive, formulaic, and dull.
