A history of violence was the first movie ever that i realized that a one and a half hour movie can be painfully long. i was completely shocked by the overall terrible performances, even from Viggo Mortensen and i was shocked again when i knew that William Hurt was nominated for an academy award for his terrible awkward performance, and what made it worst is the directing. Yes the directing was terrible coming from the director of Eastern promises. from the first 5 minutes i realized that the movie was slow, and i was kinda hoping for it to be like a cool directorial thingy, but it's not, it kept going like this making the movie painful to watch. i just seen Eastern promises and i really liked it, Viggo Mortensen character was dark and the story had depth but here, we have a shallow character that just playing awkward to the point that even the connection between family members were awkward and unreal, i mean come on, a teenage boy kiss his mother good morning every day seriously ? and i'm not against nudity in films but the wife coming out of the bathroom completely naked was pointless and stupid, it was like "hey, we can do this and that" and the sex scene on the stairs was awkward, i genuinely felt that i was watching a movie by M. Night Shyamalan.
The happening is a bad movie, with a bad story and terrible performances, And that's just me being generous. believe it or not, M. Night is one of my favorite directors, yes even after all the terrible movies he's done, because sometimes i get what is he trying to deliver, however i didn't feel anything about this one. Mark Wahlberg is also one of my favorite actors, so saying this, is really hard for me. First the story which was dull and stupid, and then the fact that everything about this movie is forced, forced thriller and forced scenes and the fact that everything "should" be scary and **** all that was ok with me. what gets me is the terrible awful down right insulting performance by Zooey Deschanel, i mean seriously, she couldn't act at all and didn't make sense the entire film. and you have another bad performance by John Leguizamo and the sad thing is that even Mark Wahlberg performance was bad, watching him squeeze his face to make some impressions is really painful to watch. after all, this is just a bad movie being bad with no excuse of excising, thank you very much M. Night for making me feel weird about myself watching Mark Wahlberg talking to a plant, Sigh.
Children of Men is a beautiful movie, from the first 10 minutes you can notice that it's class A movie with every element, i was astounded by the first explosion because it was so realistic, then i began to notice the environment and i was so impressed by it, it's like they created an entire city to shoot the movie in, that's reminded me of the importance of Cinematography. and this movie gotta be the most realistic expectation of reality i have ever seen, we all seen movies that pushed as 20 or more years, and it's all about technology, but this movie takes a different direction, the last 30 minutes for me was a blast, because i haven't seen a realistic representation of a street conflict since Black Hawk Down and that movie was beautiful. Alfonso Cuarón should be praised for his astonishing director skills and the movie is enjoyable to the max.
First off i would like to point out that i mean no disrespect to anyone in this review, because i'm here to review the movie not the events that it based on. the movie isn't about the united airline 93 until 55 long minutes, the movie is loud and the camera work was down right terrible and that's coming from the director of the wonderful captain Phillips and the Bourne trilogy, and i do realize it should be a movie inside an airplane, but i felt dizzy watching this. and the movie isn't informative at all, i've seen a documentary called "ZERO An Investigation Into 9-11" that almost as long as this movie and it explained everything that happened that day. for instance, the whole air traffic noise and buzz was absolutely useless, all what we learned is that the guys were doing their job, the president is the only person who can issue a military strike on possible hijacked airplanes and the military didn't do anything even after the president gave it a GO. for me i would like to see the details including the fact that every airplane was forced to land immediately and how they closed their air space without any accidents, but i didn't get to see that. also the movie did so little on characters, it's not memorable at all, and the only reason that it is critically acclaimed is the fact that it remind us of a tragedy, but the movie was terrible and could have been way better than this.
It's one of those movies who you just have to watch it and decide for yourself and stop reading reviews about it, because the reviews are mixed and disturbing 50% are good and the other 50% are bad, and the reason for this is that the movie is so easily to misunderstood. some say it's a predictable plot, some say awful screenplay or awful directing and i say it's an enjoyable movie with a great message behind it. it's a crime/thriller movie, definitely not the best in the genre but it's good in so many levels that people tends to ignore. the performances were solid, obviously (Mark,Russell and Zeta-Jones), the screening was beautiful and the music was very good, the plot is average but what do you expect from a movie about Corruption, i mean it might be a predictable but it have a great message behind it.
The game is the first movie that i watched and didn't know what to think of it, i honestly don't have any idea whether to feel bad, angry or missleaded so you won't find a conclusion here but basically it goes like this: this review is a giant spoiler, so don't read it if you haven't watched the movie yet, thank you, goodbye. the title of the movie is a giant spoiler so you shouldn't take the movie seriously but somehow David Fincher was able to force you to believe that the events is real and that's talent ladies and gentlemen whether you like it or not but think about it this way, if the movie was a game then thinking about it will raise alot questions, flaws and plot mistakes, for example, if all the pullets that been used in the movie are fake then how can you explain the damages that the pullets makes, rubber pullets is a good answer, but the handgun that been used by Michael Douglas that he took from the private detective was able to flat a tire and that's no rubber pullets. also they locked him up with taxi cap and throw him in the sea, what if he couldn't swim or didn't remember that he had the handle to open the car window, he'd be dead. and they drugged him and put him inside a coffin in Mexico city, what if he was robbed and killed in his way to the united states ? they wouldn't be able to do anything about it, and last what if he jumped 5 feet to the right, he would be dead, because it's totally stupid that he jumped right into that mark. and i can go on and on and on about it, but you get my point, it's a movie that have more plot mistakes than The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel combined. but my average rating goes for three reasons, the movie isn't boring at all, it actually interesting and keep you guessing and intense the entire time, and two David Fincher force you to believe that it's real even though he spoiled it earlier, and three because i want to recommend to everyone, but don't over think about it like i did, because i have no life, just kidding, enjoy it.
Revolutionary Road is a movie with linear non-functional boring story with over the top performances. the movie is empty and unwatchable if weren't for Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet performances, i kept asking myself, should i feel something here, which is a question i shouldn't have to ask myself if the movie was engaging, and coming for the director of American Beauty is really a let down.
Jack Reacher is a waste of two hours and 10 minutes, it might look like a standard shooting gallery but it managed to be even worse than that given the fact that the movie is slow, which is a surprise cause these type of movies tends to be fast, plot-less and stupid. this one is slow,plot-less and stupid. i mean it's not a crime movie, diffidently not an action movie and most importantly it's not an enjoyable movie.
I actually tried so hard to like this movie, but i couldn't. i mean i don't get it, the whole nature thing and how people are proud by living these types of unhealthy dirty lives, the movie isn't good looking at it best, i mean i've seen movies about wild and nature and i actually liked it like "into the wild" but this one failed to deliver anything important, i didn't like the narrating, the story (if there was any) and i didn't like the view of the movie, it just didn't work at all for me and you might like it, but i didn't.
Clerks is a fantastic movie, and Kevin Smith's best work. i mean the fact that he made an entire movie based on 2 to 3 characters are just impressive, i had a few outrageous laughs now and then but I'm more impressed by the dialog exchange, the screenplay was over the top, with characters that so down to earth that anyone can relate to, i mean I've seen a lot of Kevin Smith work but this is the root of his success, the writing, the screenplay and the fact that the movie has a story and a view on the way that a person can see his life, it's really impressive, this shows that talent will pop up and delivered even with cheap production, few characters and few events.
Martin Scorsese is one of my all time favorite directors and this movie was good, i liked the visuals and the plot, and i like the details about movie making and all that stuff, however i didn't like the way this movie addresses it's audience, it seems as the story was for kids not for adults, come on if you seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about that's my only problem with this movie.
unfortunately this movie is underrated for many reasons, it might look like that the concept of the movie is silly, but it's not, it's actually beautiful but the execution wasn't that good. i mean there are roughly 4 characters in this movie, and all the scenes with Jay Mohr were stupid and unmemorable at all. and that buried the movie, but the performances was spectacular by Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment also the plot was good and the ending was beautiful. i mean it's a simple beautiful story if you just think about it for a sec.
Casino is a 3 hours entry to Martin Scorsese world, it's a journey in which you'll feel excited and happy the entire time, even with all the crimes, all the dirty events that's been going on. it's simply put a masterpiece with all it's element from the A-list cast to the screenplay to all the little things that the movie address, and as a movie critic i try to find a spot when the movie drops a little bit out of shape but i didn't find anything, that's why it's a masterpiece and it's even more entertaining than Goodfellas.
this movie is a blend of random human emotions, and when you see the word "Random" in my statement that means it's never good. yes the performances was over the top, but i don't get these reactions, it seems unrealistic.
this movie took me by surprise, i do realize that it was nominated for best picture but i didn't think that it was that good, the movie is absolutely entertaining with powerful scenes making a great story and you can see Tom Cruise at his best, i mean if you really want to watch a movie that you fell in love with Tom Cruise then this is the right place, just love it.
i watched this movie not knowing what it's about, Honestly i just read the title and decided to watch it, and i had few laughs at the first hour, and i was convinced that this is a comedy movie with small events, kinda dumb comedy like Chaplin movies, and it wasn't until the last half hour of the movie that i realized that this movie about the holocaust and i was completely shocked by the fact that the movie just took a different path and i started to get mad because there was no signs of this happening, i might missed the word "Jews" on the book store door but that was it. and the terrible part is that they didn't even take the events that's been going on seriously, i do realize it's about the love between a father and his son, but the movie doesn't get any serious and start addressing things at all, and i was completely shocked by the fact that the main character just got killed and the movie didn't even show a little remorse for it, i felt so stupid.
i think that this movie rank from below-average to normal in the most cases, the blew-average is the way that spike lee decided to deliver the story and the normal is the story itself, in other words the story struggled so hard to be delivered but the strong aspect about this movie was the performances. as usual Edward Norton gives a solid performance along with the secondary characters like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Barry Pepper, but some scenes were completely irrelevant to the story such as the bathroom mirror scene and some of the camera work was completely unnecessary, it's like "hey we can do this effect and this effect", and I'm not really familiar with spike lee's work but i'm guessing from this movie it's average and the one thing i can take from this movie is me saying "hey you're good looking, you know that's gonna be bad for you if you ever go to jail" WHAT "oh just something i learned from 25th hours". if you didn't get my point then you need to watch the movie again, also the last scene when Edward Norton is old with his happy family is completely ridiculous, hey spike lee through some extra bucks on that shot, don't be so cheap.
this is gotta be one of the best movies i have ever seen in terms of visual effect, from the start to finish on every frame the director keeps shocking you with this stunning CGI, and the story is really good actually. the narrator part wasn't to my liking but it didn't bother me, also the guy who plays the writer character in the movie Rafe Spall have poor acting skills, but he's secondary character in the movie. but after all the movie is amazing experience in term of visuals.
i don't normally criticize Steven Spielberg work but this one is actually boring. extremely long two and a half hour filled with dark contents with noting to be excited about, i was so bored watching this movie that i don't know if there was a solid story or not, and the entire movie is based on the main character just like "there will be blood" which means that all the secondary characters are absolutely useless which is kinda a shame given that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Hal Holbrook starred in this movie, and i do get that this is a historical story and all but how about spice it a little, give us something to enjoy.
Inception have the best original idea i have ever seen and Nolan execute it to the level of perfection, it's a masterpiece in all it's elements. the visuals are the best thing i have ever seen. the performances are spectacular and the plot is imaginary. i never gave a movie 10 out of 10 before but inception easily deserve it.
you can sum up Mystic River by two things only, weird and far away from reality. i mean it's like watching a movie by Paul Thomas Anderson. because everything that the characters do in this movie is the exact opposite from what people do in these types of situations. my point is you can't relate to these characters actions at all. a man just told his wife that he killed the wrong guy, and the wife tell him, "that what kings do", WHAT. and the innocent man who got killed confessed about a crime he didn't commit for no obvious reason, and the people who actually did the murder have no motive at all. and it's keep getting weirder and weirder to the point that you keep scratching your head after the movie ends. i mean seriously Clint Eastwood. and i can't understand why Tim Robbins nabbed an Oscar for best actor, all what he ever did was few face expressions and 4 or 5 lines. and Clint Eastwood stretched some scenes way too much so you can relate to the performances but it was iffy and cold for all of them.
man of steel was the most over-hyped movie of the entire year, so was it worth it you might ask and the answer is very easy, NO. i actually felt bad and disappointing because i was so anticipating this movie, and i felt stupid afterward, cause there is so much plots mistakes it's almost unwatchable, unless you the kinda guy who ignore major details to have fun, i can't do that, cause for me everything have to make sense and this movie unfortunately does not make any, i mean i felt mad after watching iron man 3 because of plot mistakes, after this i can gladly make iron man 3 my favorite movie of 2013.
I've always been a fan of Jim Carrey's movies since i can remember, and the Truman show is critically acclaimed which i should like automatically right, NOPE. i admire that the story is creative and coming from high imagination but the problem with a high imagined movie is the end, because with your imagination you can create a perfect movie world with perfect events, but the hardest thing to do is to close this world with an eventful plot, unfortunately the end in this movie was so bad, that it actually pissed me off, Truman was born and raised in this fake world, so he have no idea about the actual real world, so you'd think he's very excited and anticipated to get out but a huge character development was missing from the plot and ending the movie like this with a fake smile "good morning, good evening and goodnight" was the worst ending to a movie i have ever seen. the end actually left me speechless for about 9 minutes.
Wreck it Ralph is easily one of the best animations i have ever seen, the idea behind it is so creative and so beautiful that keeps you in excitement and anticipation the entire time, it's a class A movie with all it's element, from the voices to the story to the picture. and this one deserved the Oscar for best animated film more than Brave by miles.
so yeah, this one was terrible, it seems as if they shot each scene alone and forgot that all the scene are going to come together at the end and should make sense and the movie start off very lame as RWJ as the narrator who have no idea what to say relying on his ego and then he made a joke 5 seconds after his girlfriend just fall off 2000 feet and should be dead ? and you have a terrible performance from Guy Pearce who apparently can't Starr in a good movie recently, and the director trying so hard to bring himself on the screen in pointless scenes who add nothing to major all clusterfu** just stop this series already.
first off all i would like to state that i have nothing against dwayne johnson, i actually appreciate his performance however the movie is overdramatic and needed a much better stand out performances and not just good music. the main glitch here is the story it just too hard to believe that it has been taken from real events because if anyone knows a little bit about drug cartels he would know that it's impossible to reach the mafia boss after one successful job. plus all they ever needed is his phone number to trace him to his location and arrest him! what's the charges driving his kid to school, and how are they going to attach that 83 million to him, i mean if NSA are tapping all mobile phones in the states but they can't get the drug-lords-phone-numbers so they need an inside job to do so, then you're doing a terrible job NSA. also are you telling me that the united states is so generous that they gave a 100G rewards each? NOPE.
to be honest i thought this movie is going to be a terrible one, i mean come on it's a movie by michael bay, but i found myself laughing and enjoying this movie pretty well, i actually found it so entertaining that i decided to watch it again, mark wahlberg gave a fantastic performance of being obnoxious, there are few mistakes in this movie such as you can see the camera man on the door mirror, and some scenes are just too weird, you keep finding yourself on a weird place again and again, but overall the movie is entertaining in a good way.
this movie is absolutely amazing, the writing, the directing, the performances, the plot, and finally the twist was one of the best twists ever, it's almost as good as the twist from "fight club", this movie keeps surprising you with every element, i mean who would thought that a kid will give such a memorable performance, the sixth sense is unique and over the top and once in a life time experience.
you know how when a normal movie ends and you're like "ok, that was ok" while nodding your head. and when a great movie ends you're like HOLY waw, that was fantastic but when burn after reading ends, i'm like "WHAT, THAT'S IT 1:35 MINUTES, did i download the full movie or something went wrong?" so yeah 1 hour 35 minutes are too short to figure out these 5 characters, and yeah the performances were great, but one does not simply enjoy an unfinished movie with terrible ending.
precious is my favorite drama of 2009, and one of the best stories on a drama movie, the movie is pretty hard to watch, but the great performances make it so believable, Gabourey Sidibe performances was so good that it turned out from the actress who nobody knew to an Oscar-first-role nominee. her performances was over-the-top that it's actually make you feel that this movie is about her real life, it's like eminem in 8-mile, and not just her,Mo'Nique performances was top-notch, even Mariah Carey blow you away with her acting, waw. the story give you a little piece of hope at the end which is the best part, but over-all a fantastic drama and one of my favorite.
it's one of those movies that you can't like, or hate. most movies that you can't like or hate, have a good scenes and bad ones, but this is different, the fact that they tried to give you a taste of prison and prisoners without actually going deep didn't work at all, it's make you feel that the story is shallow, the performances were ok but Harold Perrineau can't act at all, they give him a well-dressed character but he wasn't able to fill his role, and that actually left a big gap opened, and then the story and how they tried to convince us about the reality of prisons, it just didn't work.
they say Ben Stiller movies some ON and some OFF, well this one is OFF, actually it's too OFF this time that it's barely unwatchable, not totally unwatchable because there are FEW good scenes but the movie seems lazily produced, lazily written and lazily directed. i mean beyond the fact that the story is so dull and weird, the only way that you could know that this is a comedy movie is by reading the word "comedy" on the blue-ray box, THAT'S IT. the characters is so lazily written that you don't even know what the hell is Jonah Hill role, he just standing there doing absolutely nothing, and what's with the British guy, you can totally remove him and that would not effect the movie at all, but then they decided to spice it up and make him an alien REALLY? if this is where the comedy is going then we all completely doomed.
this is by far the worst movie of 2012, oh wait i apologize, i wouldn't actually call it a movie, it's look like something you see on YouTube nowadays NOT on the big screen, because there is nothing about this that actually make it a movie, no story at all, a sudden changes of events and terrible ending, everything about this movie is awful, even the visuals are horrific which is what the movie all about, the last scene on the Mountains that it's covered with ice was obviously a green screen effect which i can do with a video camera and an editing software, this "movie" was done so IMMATURELY that it pissed me off.
this movie is a masterpiece from the start to finish. watching this movie nowadays makes you reminisce to the old movie style. the good story the fantastic performances the over top characters the fact that every scene of the movie is valuable in the overall story. i miss how movies used to be with Tom Hanks awesome performance and the fact that the movie is solid yet simple and joyful it's basically a 3 hours that send you away to what movies actually should be.
batman begins start off very lame and almost unwatchable i understand that Nolan was trying to build a story but even the process should be entertaining there are some technical mistakes that is unfortunately unforgiven such as the lame ninja techniques and out of place performances by Liam Neeson and Ken Watanabe and that was just for the first 30 minutes. but then the story begin to improve when the character has been build everything start to change some great scenes great actions great morals and fantastic soundtracks as usual in all nolan movies but at some parts the story is weak for example, are you trying to convince me that the league of shadows destroyed Roma and London and then they destroyed Gotham economically i mean they are bunch of ninja what kinda sense does that make but then again people are lost with the actions and never realize that the story through out the movie is lame and by saying that i didn't mean that the movie is bad it had it's good time and bad ones.
"watching this movie is kinda like someone approaches you from behind and begin to chock you little by little and then he releases his hands and suddenly you take a giant breath that's give you goose bumps all over your body" original. this movie is just impressive and Danny Boyle blow my mind with these amazing shots and amazing visual effects some scenes were difficult to watch but Danny Boyle tried to show the picture as it is and he succeeded.
gone baby gone is a unique movie and diffidently my favorite movie by Ben Affleck. it's provided a solid story with a little bit of mystery not knowing what's the next scene is going to be. and i love the fact that Casey Affleck was casted as the leading actor he's not that great of an actor he missed few spots but he fit in the character it's like the movie was written about him. his personality in the movie looks like it's taken from him as a real person and that's what i love about the movie.
Christopher Nolan is my all time favorite director i enjoy all his movies i enjoy the fact that his movies are anything other than linear because it's make you think about it and connect the scenes together and make more sense if you watch the movie again, however i think that Nolan took it too far with this one cause in order for a Christopher Nolan movie to be great you have to enjoy each and every scene and have no idea what's next THAT'S ALL NOLAN MOVIES but with Memento the curiosity is not about the next scene it's about when the movie ends and that's sad because when the level of mystery is 100% and everything don't make any sense you kinda loss interests in the movie and i know some people are impressed by the end because there is no end but i find it a waste of 2 hours movie and yeah i didn't find Guy Pearce as a good actor in this one. after all that being said i don't think the movie is bad i just didn't like it.
this movie is beyond being overrated i mean there is an overrated movies and there is pulp fiction let's break it down shall we ? some people are impressed that it's 3 stories together REALLY is that impressive how about the movie babel why it's not a critically acclaimed movie like this ? the script is so corny that you can hear it from people while street walking the directing OK what's great about it did you see the end of the movie and how the scenes connected together oh yes this called lack of imagination the performances is so annoying that it makes you question those actors resumes especially Samuel L. Jackson the homosexual **** is the weirdest thing i ever seen in a Hollywood movie and that's not even the worst part it doesn't add a thing to the story. the characters are ridiculous and i can go on and on but there is no point i guess some people get tricked into thinking that the movie is good because it's a Quentin Tarantino movie without actually watching the movie.
this movie is too awkward with an obnoxious writing i mean i know Daniel day-lewess made an awesome performance there is no Doubt about that but the writing keep you away from the story i mean why when his son became deaf he was happy ? why his son burned down the house ? why he killed his brother ? why he waited all these years until he told his son that he was adopted ? why in hell he killed the monk ? omg i felt stupid after watching this movie.
Denzel Washington is the king of drama movies that's it no one could play that role better than him overall great movie and great story and Washington made it hard to not look at the screen.
the first 30 minutes of the movie start off fantastic great performances solid story the dialog is great and the screenplay is the best. but then the movie does not make sense after that. the scene after the restaurant is confusing she kept screaming at the street "he's harassing me" and then she said it was a joke and tried to calm him down , i kept scratching my head during the scene but you know whatever. so the second bomb is Robert De Niro offering the bet and that was the worst 14 minutes in the movie. and the deceivingly happy ending is awkward it was like watching a home made movie. and that's just sad because the movie start off very well but i don't know what happened , it's like David O. Russell was trying to film the movie entirely in one week start off good but then decided to rush it.
the one thing i learned from this movie is that you can still get disappoint even if you are already disappoint which is exactly what happened to me before and after watching this movie. the only reason i watched it in the first place because of the Oscar for best picture in which the movie didn't deserve and here's why. the script was corny the screen play was silly the characters were stupid and the directing was normal and there isn't a music and a moral afterward. some how the producer/directer was able be lazy in terms of screen play and people weren't able to recognize that but if you do you will notice that there isn't a dialog which might be the laziest way to produce a movie with only few good scene and a huge gap between them. in terms of Javier Bardem performance anyone would be able to do that cause there isn't a default standard way to play his role anyone could fill that role and play it his own way and you won't complain about it trust me.
