The Acolyte3
Jun 5, 2024
At the time of writing this, only two episodes have come out. The Acolyte is a show that feels like it should be more than what is being presented. More well shot, more well written, just more. My problem with the show is not with what people are calling "woke", Star Wars has always been political in nature, it's the fact they made a boring murder mystery. The twist is revealed in episode one, the culprit is revealed within the first few minutes, all of the fun of a whodunnit is removed and all we are left with is an eight episode long pursuit of the criminals. It's not worth your time.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)2

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024) is an almost insulting retelling of a beloved, amazing, animated series. While this is closer to the original, and the casting is pretty solid, the writing fails to understand what made the original so dang good. Just watch the original. This is no replacement for excellency.

Hazbin Hotel: Season 15

Hazbin Hotel Season 1 shows potential but was clearly a bit rushed given the episodes they could work with. There's bits of gold that are trapped behind a show unable to fully hit emotional beats. Songs are great but can only do so much.

A masterpiece of a show from beginning to end. It's one of the greatest animated series of all time for a reason.

At the time of writing this, the show only has six episodes. I've watched every one of them and I have to admit that this show is fine. It's a show with nuggets of gold that is sandwiched between "interesting" writing decisions. The songs are thankfully fairly well-done even if some are misses. Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it trying to be anything more than it already is? No. It's a simple concept with simple ideas being executed in a way that isn't very surprising or something that is meant to make you think too deeply.
