This non-stop test of your reaction time and fast-twitch thumb muscles is likely the most entertaining two-dimensional, two-button, stick-figure-fighting game out there. You play as a kung fu master in the form **** male-bathroom stick figure symbol and you must press the appropriate button or combination of buttons to unleash a variety of kung fu moves upon the enemy stick figures approaching you from either side. Admittedly, there's not going to be a lot of depth in a game that only makes use of two buttons and nothing more, but the challenge and fun in defeating the several hundred levels of the game lies in the timing, precision, and speed of your button presses as more and more enemies and enemy-types appear at increasing speeds. Additionally, there are some entertaining weapons and powerups that add variety to the action. The music is also well done and matches the theme of the game very well. Ultimately, your enjoyment of the game will largely depend on whether (or how fast) you grow tired of the gameplay. Yes, it is basically the same thing over and over, across a few hundred levels. But, since each individual level is only a few minutes long, this is a perfect game for the Switch platform. You can play it in bite sizes on the go and have a lot of fun, put it away for a while, and then easily pick it back up without losing a step. That's exactly what I did and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

This is a pretty decent 2D action-adventure-exploration game that falls somewhere in-between Super Metroid and Terraria. Similar to Metroid there is a lot of exploring and certain places are unreachable until certain items are collected which allow you to gain access to those areas. Similar to Terraria there's a lot of digging, mining, ore and item collecting. Ores are sold for cash which can be used to upgrade your equipment. Additionally, gears and special blueprint items can also be discovered and can improve your equipment in other ways. There are a variety of enemies to kill and a few boss battles as well. Overall, I had fun with this game and it gave me a solid 12 hours of gameplay. 100% completion would probably take a few more hours. I do have two complaints though. At $20 digital and $30 physical, this game on the switch is a bit overpriced given both the short playtime and the fact that it's only $10 physical for PS4 on amazon. My other complaint is that the exploration element is a bit limited. The map isn't all that large, and it is very restricting in the horizontal direction - caverns go down pretty deep, but don't extend very far from side to side.

DOOM 648

This port of a 23-year-old, N64 version of Doom is a fun little five dollar game that takes you straight back to the 90s. Consequently, this is an old school FPS. Therefore, no vertical aiming, small low-polygon levels, and 2D sprite enemies that move in low frame rates. If you're a fan of older Doom games, retro gaming, and/or the N64, then there's a lot to enjoy here. Plus, this port includes additional brand new levels that are unlocked once you complete the main game. I had a lot of fun with this in bite sizes, as the levels average 20 minutes or less to complete. This makes it an excellent game for the Switch platform, especially with the $5 price tag.

On a purely technical level, this game presents itself as a 10/10. The graphics, sounds, music, details, as well as the size and scope of the world that Rockstar has built here is unprecedented. Unfortunately, the game itself isn't all that fun to play. Firstly, there is a pervasive slowness and sluggishness across multiple aspects of the game. For starters, your character moves unusually slow, like he's carrying a refrigerator on his back. It also doesn't help that you spend the first hour of the game slogging through snow, slowing down your refrigerator-carrying character even more. Matters are made even worse when you spend the first four hours doing nothing but tutorial missions. Then the game assigns you boring and monotonous chores to do for your camp. The main storyline missions aren't all that exciting either as the lengths of these missions are often padded by the drawn out time spent traveling miles and miles on horseback. Sure, the scenery is pretty cool to look at once or twice, but by the 10-hour mark I was bored to tears. The missions themselves are ok at best, but there is an unusually high reliance on button prompts in order to perform, or really just watch, your slow character perform a unique action. This ultimately makes the missions feel like slightly interactive vignettes, rather than actual gameplay experiences. Outside of the main missions and the tedious side activities, there's a very limited number of things to do in this world. You can rob a bank, hijack a train, go bounty hunting, play some poker, and hogtie people and throw them off bridges. Unfortunately, once you've done each of these things a few times, the fun is over and there's not much more to do. It also doesn't help that this huge world is so low density and so it is mostly empty, inactive, and unexciting. Ultimately, RDR2 is a boring 1890s life simulator that emphasizes story, presentation, and the slow tedium of frontier life over making a truly fun gameplay experience.

This is a halfway decent action-platformer that is inspired by, and pays tribute to, the Gameboy. There's a couple hours of solid gameplay here, along with a decent number of 8-bit Nintendo-inspired boss battles. The difficulty is average, but it does get a bit more challenging toward the end. The graphics and music are below average, but since it intentionally has a Gameboy presentation, this should be expected. Overall, decent, but I wouldn't recommend paying more than $5 for it.
