If you thought past CoD campaigns had fallen off a cliff, brace yourself. This is absolute trash. Every single thing that they could **** up, they **** up. Activision lowers the bar yet again.
Mediocre to the bone. Core loop? Exceptionally boring walking simulator. Story? Trite. Script? Truly woeful. Pacing? A train wreck. Acting? Hideous (shout out to the lifeless, expressionless characters who absolutely crush the uncanny valley). The only reason why this gets a pass is it's because it's a Hideo Kojima game. We need to stop **** up to celebrities and start actually celebrating creativity and artistry. Qualities that this game possesses none of.
Great writing comes seldom in games. SOMA does a terrific job at delivering a thought-provoking, engaging and entertaining narrative that leaves you questioning what it means to be human, what it means to be alive, the nature of sentience, our relationship to morality and our definition of reality. It's an eerie yet beautiful video game. Kudos to the Frictional Games team!
Scorn is an exceptionally atmospheric exploration game. Yes, it's definitely skinny in the gameplay department, but this really isn't what the game is about. It's about the art, the creativity and the immersion. And at that, Scorn does a really good job. Play this game if you're interested in slowly exploring an. H. R. Giger universe. And don't play this game if you want action, a tight core loop or a more dynamic moment to moment.
Interesting premise meets mediocre execution. Death Stranding sadly doesn't do anything particularly well: the initially alluring premise is belabored and convoluted, the characters and dialog are unconvincing and hard to get invested in, the cinematography is sophomoric and gameplay is ultimately relegated to a very thin experience that never particularly engages. All this contributes to the ultimate shortcoming of the game not being fun and Kojima's self-service cinematics being a long, dull chore.
Classic EA cash-grab. The original games are great, but this "Legendary Edition" is nothing more than a lazy coat of paint in the form of better textures. The opportunity here was to remake the trilogy, updating game systems, progression, facial animations, tweaking storylines, righting old wrongs and throwing in some fun new side stories. But no. A lazy coat of paint is what we got.
The mouse sensitivity on PC is absolutely ****. The input options have minimal effect, so for those of us who don't like high sensitivity aiming, controlling the camera is absurdly difficult. The game looks nice, but this is the first time - ever, I think - that I simply cannot play a game that I bought because the control scheme is busted. It's a real shame.
What a masterpiece. Definitely not much ****, but a fascinating, captivating narrative experience that hits right in the feels. Much, much recommended.
Best DLC of the Crowns Trilogy. Nothing particularly innovative about it... and that's absolutely fine. The immersive level design is there, the challenging combat is there, there are some great new bosses and mini-bosses, etc. All in all, a super-tight, engaging and polished DLC that extends the enjoyment for us lovers of the Souls series :)
Rarely does a game deliver on its every promise. Dark Souls II does that and more. From the outstanding melee combat, to the subtle character development, going through a battery of unique and vicious environments, Dark Souls II has everything one could ask for from one of the best RPGs ever made.
Utterly mediocre. 1990's graphics, terrible story, a myriad loading screens and a distinct lack of production values. Yes, hacking zombies down with creative weapons can be good fun, but it doesn't make up for how dreadful everything else is.
A shame. New Vegas would have been great, but it's ridiculously buggy. Clearly a game rushed out way too soon. I've no idea how it got an average of 86 with such glaring lack of polish and a battery of game breaking bugs. Only worth buying on a discount AND once the game has been sufficiently patched.
It genuinely doesn't get any more buggy than this. A real crime, as Fallout: New Vegas had all the makings of a classic, but such poor quality in execution is unacceptable.
