Attack of the Fanboy
Scorn is a special experience for anybody looking to have their expectations subverted for what a good horror game can be. It is a gory, surreal, provocative dive into difficult or even taboo topics, and is wonderfully crafted, and near perfectly optimized. The game’s themes and visuals are challenging and extremely mature, but executed with great subtlety. The game is a technical marvel and concise as any horror game should be, so as to not overstay its welcome.

Scorn reminds me a lot of what Agony was trying to go for when it released – a fresh new experience through a nightmarish setting. With Scorn though, it arrived very playable with only a few issues, unlike the tragedy that we experienced with Agony. Horror fans should definitely give Scorn a try. Scorn is an experience like no other horror game and every horror fan needs to support this great effort.

A breath taking, incredibly immersive, terrifying and deeply disturbing experience. Puzzles actually make sense despite not being blatant. All the progression and story-telling goes throught the beautifully crafted envionment with great fluidity. It's easy to feel lost in such a grotesque and sinister environment but it does the job very well to guide you thanks to the thoughtful level design. The cosmical horror in this game is very much intense and (if you use headphones) you'll easily feel completely immerged into this world of endless suffering. the SFX teams and music composers really did an amazing job to transmit almost-constant terror and nailed every suspensful transition between all those spectacular places and landscapes. Puzzles are logical and adapted to their environments; they narratively serve a purpose in their world. Some of them tends to be more more complicated than others but you just need patience, reflection and most importantly paying attention to your surroundings. Art direction is fully integrated with gamplay mechanics. It's rather a short game but honestly its lengh is great like this. It's a constant high-level of details and quality from the start to the finish. As for the narrative, I'd rather just recommend you to play it. Go throught everything and make your own interpretation of it afterward. Read and admire the artbook if you want to have a better understanding of the world and the story it tells.

Абсолютный гримдарк и лучшая игра в стиле био-панк. Концовка - катарсис. Сильнейший арт дизайн, я такого ни в одной игре прежде не видывал. Игровой процесс базовый и не сильно отвлекает от изучения гротескного мира.

But Why Tho?
Scorn is a survival horror shooter puzzle game and it uses each of those elements in its own mold.

Scorn is the classic case of a brilliant idea, diligently implemented which then lacks much of the content to be savored and enjoyed. The settings are excellent and cause great anguish, and the adventure around the exploration of these carnal and biomechanical tunnels is fantastic, but the shooting phases are faulty, the puzzles are repetitive and in some cases fillers, for a project with little longevity. Having put the nearly eight years of development on the table, it was reasonable to expect something more.

The Loadout
Scorn is a haunting journey through an alien world that asks a lot from players, both through its striking imagery and some smartly designed, unique puzzles.

Scorn is an art house experience. I’m sure that other reviewers will plumb “Scorn” for its hidden high-minded commentary on the human condition, but for me, the appeal of the game is how it made me feel rather than think. I felt a constant, humming anxiety for simply existing in its macabre world. I was never particularly scared of anything I encountered; like the playable creature, I just wanted out.

Finishing Scorn does not leave players with a sense of satisfaction; it's not scary and it's not fun. Most will be glad that it's over, and at least it's mercifully short. It only takes about five hours to beat Scorn, and our playthrough ended with us earning 11 out of 12 of the game's achievements. Scorn gives players absolutely no reason to return to it, and quite frankly, it doesn't offer much reason to play it even once.

Scorn is beautiful and terrifying! As a game it fails to hit it's mark, however as a art piece it is remarkable. It's almost as if the developers tried to add shooting mechanics to make the experience a game but it is best experience as a walking simulator exploring this amazing art work.

Truly excellent visuals and sound design. Zero hand-holding; it simply drops you into a bizarre new world and you learn how it works by observing and doing. I especially like how the mechanical designs have an overarching common theme, and after being in the game for awhile you will begin to "think like one of them" and will begin to understand what certain machines or puzzles are about much faster than when you've just begun. The combat is awful though. I wish they had just not even bothered, because it's really quite bad, and drags you out of the otherwise excellent experience every single time you have to fight (and you have to fight a lot more than is really necessary).

Scorn was an interesting experience. I really liked the atmosphere and its strange world. The puzzles were cool and fit well with the environment. At first, the lack of an interface was confusing, but over time it started to feel natural and added to the immersion. What didn’t work so well for me was the combat, it felt awkward and kind of out of place compared to the rest of the game. Overall, I liked the mood and design more than the actual gameplay.

Looks interesting, feels awful to play. Just wandering around until you find the next thing to interact with.

It's basically unplayable without a walkthrough. It's got nice looking visuals and good optimization, but like I said, the gameplay consists of interacting with things you don't know what they do and desperately hoping to progress. Honestly, I see wasted potential, it could have been a very successful game with an intuitive gameplay with a real story, or a good animated movie. But as it is, it's just a boring waste of time as it's all puzzles, blindly and without any direction.
