Visually Stunning, Fundamentally Broken I have allocated many hours to this game, largely to explore the world and push my PC hardware. If all you do is walk around and take in the visually stunning environments, it is acceptable. However, do not actually engage with the mechanics. The more you play, the more you realise that underneath the graphics, the game is absolutely unbearable.
Once the hype of the first 40 hours wears off, you see it for what it is: an exercise in rage-baiting. It is riddled with bad mechanics, endless bugs, system crashes, and a complete lack of respect for the player's time. Every single time I play, I encounter at least five bizarre bugs that I have never seen in any other game in my life. Appalling Quest Design:
The main quest is terrible. The game forces you into specific playstyles to complete objectives, but the execution is entirely broken due to constant system errors and buggy controls. Non-Existent Explanations: The quest instructions are the worst I have ever encountered. For example, a prompt will tell you to "board the wagon" with zero context. What it actually expects you to do is go find a wagon, steal it, and drive it back to an NPC. Broken Escorts:
NPCs walk incredibly slowly and frequently get stuck on pebbles in the road. If you move more than three metres away from them, the quest immediately fails, resetting 15 minutes of tedious progress and sending you back to the beginning. Dreadful Controls and Technical Failures The controls on PC are disgusting, and the core mechanics fail consistently. Heavy Movement:
Character movement feels heavy and unresponsive. There is a continuous one-to-two second delay when starting or stopping, meaning your character keeps walking after you release the keys. Faulty Mechanics:
The grappling hook only works half the time and simply fails the rest. Terrible Lighting:
Even when playing on maximum settings, the lighting effects are dreadful. There is a constant, distracting ghosting effect in caves and small areas. Broken Saves: The save system does not function properly. If you manually save at a specific location and load it later, the game spawns you at least 150 metres away, forcing you to trek back to where you actually were. Tedious, Unrewarding Gameplay Loops Frustrating Bounties:
You capture an outlaw, put them on your horse, and are forced to ride for 2 kilometres without a single road indicator. This results in riding in endless circles. If you accidentally wander into an off-limits area, an NPC shoots you with a sleeping dart. The area resets, you lose the outlaw, and you have to ride the entire two kilometres all over again. Merchant Wagons: Trading involves checking stock, loading a cart, and driving at a snail's pace. Reaching a destination can literally take half an hour of doing nothing. Clunky Stables & Taming: The horse taming minigame is unbelievably bad. Once you do have a horse, the stable mechanics are insanely clunky, and half the time your settings do not save. Forced Slowdowns: The game arbitrarily forces your character to walk slowly around specific NPCs and areas (like the stables), which makes absolutely no sense and breaks pacing. Do yourselves a favour and do not engage with this. Save your money and play something else entirely. This is a complete waste of money.
