Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth
4
User ScoreAwesumo

Beyond Earth just feels a bit hollow. Take civilization and strip out the history -or take Alpha centuari and strip out the unique civilizations. What you are left with feels like a rather soulless game. The planet - effectively an extra opponent/ally in AC feels like nothing but large numbers of barbarians that have their aggression turned right down. Another disappointment. There just isn't enough here, it looks nice but plays like a half finished mod. One last thing - the Diplomacy is ridiculous and the AI openly cheats.

It's a nice expansion, but there isn't really that much new content. Definitely not good value for money. I would recommend getting it when it inevitably gets it's 50+% discount in a month or so.

The off ship parts of the game are horrendously bad, and you don't seem to be able to just avoid that entirely... but even if you could the menu and command system are also a nightmare... add in bugs and performance issues and this games a dead duck. Flying around in space works great, but everything else is terrible.

It's a good game, but the 97% critic score is just wrong the numbers are being biased by lots of publications that only give reviews on the famous releases Some have only posted reviews on Halo games and Red dead redemption. Certainly their opinions have no respect nor value within the gaming community. , Still the games pretty damn fine, though the characters and plot are weaker than the old Vice City.

Dota 2 stays very close to the formula that made Dota 1 such a success. As such it is a pretty good game.... However 10 years have past, but they stubbornly refused to implement a number of improvements to the classic formula that we;ve seen elsewhere. -Barely even a nod to the fact that this is the least accessible genre of gaming ever. New players are faced with dozens of champions right from the outset. Other games have really gone to great lengths to improve this worst aspect of MOBA games (the terrible first 100 hours), Dota 2 barely acknowledges it is a problem. -The risk/reward level for more dangerous play is still at it's old (very) high level, the downside of which is that you will see less out of the box plays each match that in some of the competing MOBA games. -At the same time the game length is about 50% longer than LoL and HoN whilst having, if anything, less action over that time than the competition. Still I would rate it as a near perfect game for it's balance and replayabilty.

excellent immersive entertainment. Don't listen to the detractors. Sure this game gets repetitive after the first 5 hours but for its budget price that's plenty of gameplay. The atmosphere, the longing for home, and the desperately trying not to suffocate while avoiding space thingys that are trying to kill you is excellent immersive entertainment.

I joined the resistance. But not because I wanted to, I HAD to. It was the only way I could feed and buy medicine for my family who were sick. I was desperate. Papers please is one of the most immersive gaming experiences you will ever have.

The game has a tonne of character... but it fails on its fundementals. Once you get over the fact that you can turn into a dragon you find you are left with a bad RTS. The RTS part of the game is just flat out BAD. Very bad. Just click and zerg your units towards the enemy, no subtlety involved. Early game consists of charging to the undefended capture points. Run fast enough and you get to carry on with the level fail to capture them and the level is lost 1 minute in. Mid game consists of throwing waves of units at enemy bases to capture them while supporting with your dragon. No variation or subtlety. End game is reached when the map runs out of resources. It consists of waiting while making sure the enemies resource counter runs down marginally faster than yours. Often in the end game attacking is foolish as you'll use up more resources than you destroy which puts you closer to defeat. In effect this means that when the game begins to stalemate, you're encouraged to turtle up.

While it is a perfectly passable platform puzzle game it has none of the *WOW* factor that would justify it's 10/10 reviews. It's an above average game, but it doesn''t do anything to make you fall in love with it or remember it for years to come, like say Portal.

You don't follow the characters long enough to get the same level of attachment felt in the first season, but it still serves as a great interlude between seasons.

This game fails to capture the manic fun that was in the old 'Theme Park' game that kicked off this genre. Instead behind the initial wow of graphics showing roller coasters you are left with a rather soulless management game that utterly fails to excite.

Sure, the new sealed deck section is a bit of a disapointment but the core game has been improved. A few annoyances have gone and the decks are far less... dull than before. The decks are fun and varied, nice combos and more balanced (many of the past edition decks were solidly rock/paper/Scissor style great against certain decks, but useless against many others the kind of deck you would never ever have a chance of winning a tournament with) Draw card milling decks of the last version are (thank god) gone.

I wasn't expecting much from this low cost game... but wow. Incredibly high production values and fun fast gameplay. Gameplay itself reminds me of the classic Starlancer. That said, don't expect any great depth here it is a straight up wave based arcade shooter.... A few great hours of gaming to be had.
