X Rebirth1
Jan 28, 2014
After a full month of playtime and countless crashes on my high end pc system, I can safely say that X rebirth gives a revolting feeling of being let down by the game maker. For years, Egosoft has been making the X series. I've been trying to play them, and expected the latest to be no different. Having said this, I certainly didn't expect it to be this broken. And so, I can only agree to the numerous harsh critics about not only the technicalities and mechanics being flawed in the game where one cannot do much at all with the state of the game. It's really not a game anymore, but some parts here and there, attached together by fragile coding without proper testings on high end systems. You wonder what a company like Egosoft put into a 7 years plan to make X rebirth to the state it is at release is beyond words. To rely and exploit solely on the modding community to save their own franchise is appalling and truly demeaning. There is really no excuse for this sort of base behavior. An existing ethic committee should be enforcing laws to prevent this from happening just as much as they have decided to prevent piracy. 4 points for bringing a broken game to the table and -3 points for exploiting the modding community to save their "dignity"

Total War: Rome II0

Alas RTW2 suffers the same fate as its predecessors, and what's been said of its weaknesses are indeed, true. At first glance, it feels much more a **** than a beta while playing the prologue, but past that one realizes that RTW2 is much less than what the little positive and so called "reviews" it's been getting. Sadly, the naval battles are more similar to say TW Empire, and no attempts has been made to revamp it for a more solid naval battle option. The diplomacy makes no sense either; give me gold for a non aggression pact even though you could take my gold, wife, and land for free. There is no AI guard command this ship or this unit either. In the end, RTW2 resembles more of a previous RTW with its problems and bundled together with some "improved" graphics and little new gameplay and rushed for "preorder". Some Pre-order marketing ploy, more a consumer trap than anything else. Just like air in your ice cream for the price of a 100% ice cream. 0 for duping the consumer, 0 for making us buy such trash. F- for failing at making "new" games. Did you cheat on your IQ test?

Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword7

Not the worst, but certainly not the best either. As soon as you dig into MBFS, it feels like warband less a bunch of features and added with new ones that should have complemented on the original version. The original Mount and Blade was already half baked when it came out, Warband added new features with multiplayer capability, but this MBFS tries to revamp warband only to make us feel like it's a step back on certain features that made it more popular previously. The screen shakes as soon as you move away from the playing field on the campaign map, there are less features than it claims to have, certain quests are impossible to complete because for one way or another you simply cannot enter the city/town if you are an enemy to its owner. There is no option to get around that like trying to enter in the cover of night by climbing the walls or infiltrate its wall by subterfuge means like in warband. Still, the restrictions does not take away the element of fun with the introduction of gunfire and new units to the scene. The gameplay is certainly more appealing to more hardened gamers with its higher difficulty bar as without a good doc in your party you'll soon find out that there's no one left in your "warband". This requires more cunning and smarter planning on your part for the build up of your reign anyway. Overall, I'd give it a 7.

Darkstar: The Interactive Movie9
Feb 6, 2011
Lots of effort, time, and money went into this project or so I read. This game reminds me of an interactive game I came across a while back when software were making their mark on pc. Darkstar is a gem among gems, an original with its rich story aka a time capsule. I have barely touched the surface and the interest is growing in anticipation. DTIM is definitely not for frag fest fans or strategy games I see flooded out there. It's about patience and intuition and decision making as the situation and events unfold in a much slower pace. Some believe this is Darkstar One and it isn't. More like a movie rather than a game in itself although very detailed and requires your attention to details to move forward with the story. That said, you are certainly the captain at the helm of this long and perilous adventure in search of the mystery as to why earth is no more and the murder of one of the spaceship's crew members of 4. The fate of mankind rests on your shoulders despite the fact that you remember nothing as a result from an extended cryogenic exposure. Darkstar is truly some work of art and not to be missed.

Sid Meier's Civilization V2

2 points for graphic improvement over previous versions. The rest is garbage and the same old concept with this Civ traditional game. It looks like Civ 5 has seen an upgrade in graphics but got a downgrade in the process by it. Since it is turn-based, it plays like a risk game, but the turns are creating a new phenomenon called "creative boring royale" syndrome. You wait and wait and wait and wait until kingdom come to the point it's ridiculous to even try. That tells you there is a problem with the game code programming in itself. Good games runs flawlessly and require less space to begin with. Looking at the game sheer size for a turn-based, you get a good idea how bad it will be on your pc. I dub Civ5 The "please wait" civ game instead, and I'm certainly not alone with that saying. Saying no to 2k games for a while and you may actually get better results. Why give them good grades when they don't deserve it? Peace.

Starpoint Gemini4

Horrible voiceovers (russian, bulgarian english), terrible execution (some functions don't work or respond or missing), and total garbage imitation of previous games ie Fleet Academy Star Trek, Elite, Freelancer, EvE online and some other more successful titles. The result is a catatrosphic bundle of bugs, typos, and unreliable interface in the ship movements that cuts off any real enjoyment from the "game". Plus it's in 2D over a 3D backdrop which makes it even less attractive and not in a good way. Felt like wasted 30 minutes of my life away.
