If you enjoy metroidvania style games you have to give this one a try. After playing Castlevania:SoTN a few years back I have been searching or that same experience, and while I have played a few very enjoyable games in the genre none have matched the overall experience of SoTN (not even the GBA games). That is until La Mulana, I was instantly hooked after the first few minutes of the game and it has become an addiction that can only be satisfied with another mystery solved and any progress made how ever little it may be sometimes. The game is really difficult when it comes to the puzzles they can be very vague and every tidbit you read through the ruins just seems to add to the confusion at time, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you discover something knew and the thought of what else might I discover with this new item I just found. The game is not lacking in content as many players will spend 60-90 hours just to clear the game, tons of items and some really interesting lore. The platforming is not difficult while the bosses will provide a challenge you will most of the times be stuck due to the puzzles and not a difficult platforming section. The controls may seem odd at first but you really get the hang of it quick and realize they are pretty tight if just a bit different from what your used to in modern games. Its definitely a throwback to some retro games, you are committed to your jumps and cannot change direction mid air but like I said the platforming is not difficult in the game and I never found myself wishing for better controls. I am very satisfied with the game and think its definitely worth the full price if this is your kind of game, give it a try im sure you will not be disappointed and try to go as far as you can without looking up a guide it will be that much better.
